Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 632: Chapter 631: Date in Progress (Part 1)

When Zhenna hurried back to the DEM headquarters, there was also chaos there.

”How’s the situation? Have you found the tracks of the two elves?”

”No, Miss Suginomiya!”

”What happened?”

Upon hearing the subordinate’s report, Mana Suginomiya furrowed her brow. After leaving the warehouse, she had immediately contacted the base to track the elves’ whereabouts. DEM possesses a technology that can pinpoint the position by detecting the elves’ fluctuations; as long as the fluctuations could be detected, the existence of these elves in the Present Realm and their exact locations could be confirmed.

Zhenna was no fool; she certainly wasn’t going to look for Fang Zheng and Yoshino again unprepared, but she couldn’t just let the two elves roam around. Thus, Zhenna quickly contacted DEM to have them track and detect the whereabouts of the two elves, but now... it had failed?

”It’s like this...”

Facing Zhenna’s interrogation, the staff member in front of her, clad in a white lab coat, was also trembling, quite nervous. Although the Mana Suginomiya in front of them was just a girl of about fourteen, in reality, she was one of the top five powerful magicians in the world, and as one of DEM’s aces, her status within DEM was naturally very high.

”After receiving your command, we immediately began to track, but... our detection equipment encountered strong interference...”

”Interference?”

”Yes.”

As he spoke, the staff member tapped on the keyboard, and soon, a screen appeared in front of Zhenna displaying a continuously jumping graph, resembling radar frequency fluctuations. Seeing this screen, Zhenna was also taken aback. At this moment, the screen showed various values representing spiritual power fluctuations wildly fluctuating, looking as if they were swept by a storm or vortex. Had Zhenna not been certain that everything outside was normal, just by looking at the current detection signal, she might have thought that a space shock as powerful as the big air disaster thirty years ago had erupted.

Previously, when Hermit appeared, there wasn’t such a strong interference of spiritual energy fluctuations, which meant... the cause was that male elf, wasn’t it?

Thinking of this, Zhenna also furrowed her brow. All along, according to reports, it was assumed that elves were only female. But it now seemed that the situation was not as such; apart from female elves, there were also male elves. Moreover, unlike the timid Hermit, that male elf’s will seemed very strong and determined, and he was very opinionated. Coupled with his powerful strength, most magicians were probably no match for him. In fact, even Zhenna herself had been instantly killed; she had already undergone a full body examination and no problems were found, and her brain was also unharmed.

So, what method did the opponent use to kill them instantly?

For this question, Zhenna was completely puzzled.

Of course, Fang Zheng was not going to make any explanations to Zhenna; right now, he was leisurely strolling around the streets with Yoshino... Well, as the saying goes, a date is just a man and a woman wandering aimlessly along the street.

”Mr. Fang Zheng... what is that?”

”Oh, that’s a vending machine.”

”And that?”

”That is a shopping mall...”

”There, where lots of people are coming and going...”

”That should be an arcade...”

There’s no denying kids are kids. After walking a while with Fang Zheng, Yoshino wasn’t so downcast anymore; instead, she excitedly held Fang Zheng’s hand, curiously turning her head to look around and occasionally asking Fang Zheng questions. Although this was not Yoshino’s first time in the Present Realm. When she had come before, she was either being chased by magicians, or she was alone and dared not go anywhere, only able to find a place without population to stay until she could return to the Borderland.

But now, with Fang Zheng by her side, Yoshino had obviously relaxed a lot.

”Mr. Fang Zheng, Mr. Fang Zheng... what is that used for?”

”Hmm?”

Hearing Yoshino’s question, Fang Zheng looked up and followed the direction of Yoshino’s pointing finger, gazing at the building not far away with a huge poster hanging on it.

”That place is a movie theater, where people go to watch films.”

”Movies?”

”It’s like transferring stories onto the screen... turning them into images... well, it’s hard to explain, how about going to see for yourself?”

After all, watching movies is an essential part of a date.

”Can we?”

”Of course, we can.”

Hearing Fang Zheng’s suggestion, Yoshino showed a happy and expectant expression. Looking at the petite and cute girl beside him, Fang Zheng couldn’t help but pat her little head. Honestly, being with Yoshino made Fang Zheng feel very relaxed; Yoshino gave him the feeling of a newly born chick, pure and adorable, full of curiosity about the world.

Not only that, sometimes Yoshino’s behavior made Fang Zheng think of Nymph. Come to think of it, these two are quite similar, both very reliant on him, both with blue hair, and similar in stature...

Although Nymph is somewhat independent, Yoshino... even though they had known each other for only half a day, Fang Zheng already felt that she seemed somewhat inseparable from him.

It must be said, Yoshino’s appearance and personality indeed easily aroused one’s protective instincts. Her voice was always soft and gentle, quite bashful, and every time he heard her speak, Fang Zheng felt an urge to embrace the little girl and soothe her... Well, but I’m Mr. Fang Zheng, a decent man, how could I possibly do such a thing?

With various thoughts swirling through his mind, Fang Zheng led Yoshino to the front of the ticket counter. There weren’t many people around, perhaps because it had only just reopened.

So, which movie should we watch?

Thinking this, Fang Zheng looked at the posters not far away. There were three movies currently playing in the cinema. The first one was a horror film called ”Evil Spirit Street,” which Fang Zheng decided to pass on immediately. Although, by the book, this would be the moment to bravely take a girl to see a horror movie, then watch her dive into his arms in fear, embracing the true essence of the plot. But Yoshino wasn’t a regular girl; she was an elf. If she got too frightened and lost control of her powers, starting a rampage that could freeze the entire cinema into an icehouse, that wouldn’t be fun.

The second one was called ”The Green Green Grasslands of the Husband Next Door,” which Fang Zheng briefly skimmed. It was fundamentally about a bachelor and the married couple next door... Well, that might be quite adult-oriented, but definitely not suitable for a girl Yoshino’s age to watch. Not to mention Yoshino didn’t seem to understand much about these matters; it was best not to expose her to such odd values.

The last one was a children’s film named ”Fantasy Princess Adventure,” which told the story of a princess from the Land of Dreams visiting the real world. It seemed quite child-oriented... considering Yoshino’s psychological age, it seemed indeed more suitable for her?

That settles it then.

Deciding this, Fang Zheng walked up to the ticket counter.

”Excuse me, please give me two tickets for ’Fantasy Princess Adventure’...”

But before Fang Zheng could finish his sentence, suddenly a hand reached out from his other side, grabbing and tugging at his sleeve. When Fang Zheng turned his head, he saw the silver-haired Sword Sprite, who had appeared out of nowhere, silently staring at him.

Although Ester said nothing, Fang Zheng understood what she wanted to say, so he shrugged his shoulders and turned back around.

”... please give me three tickets for ’Fantasy Princess Adventure’...”
