The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 946: Chapter 946: Without Effort, One Can Only Rely on Others for Support

Amadeus Yancey stared at his phone for a long while, his deep eyes slightly squinting as if something piqued his interest, especially the last sentence in Mr. Yancey’s text message, ”You must work hard.” He couldn’t explain why, but he tasted a hint of disappointment in that encouragement.

”Amadeus, what’s wrong with you? Why are you staring at your phone and daydreaming?” Alfred Garland came back from outside and noticed Amadeus holding a coffee mug by the counter, seemingly looking at his phone, yet he hadn’t replied to any messages, so he asked from behind.

”Whose message is it?”

He had been with Amadeus Yancey for over a decade, their friendship was extraordinary, without much reservation, he leaned in to glance at the phone.

Just catching sight of Mr. Yancey’s text message, Alfred was baffled as well, showing a puzzled expression, and looked at the man with confusion, ”Amadeus, what did Ms. Quinlan do again? Why would Mr. Yancey send you a message telling you to work hard?”

He felt as if Mr. Yancey’s next sentence would be like saying ’if you don’t work hard, you’ll have to live off your wife’.

As soon as this thought occurred to Alfred, he gasped sharply, quickly spat three times, and told himself not to think nonsense.

Amadeus Yancey didn’t notice his little actions, casually put away his phone with a calm tone, ”Nothing much, just the usual quirks.”

Alfred: ...

Amadeus, does Mr. Yancey know you talk about him like that behind his back?

Amadeus Yancey looked up again towards the upstairs, seeing the second floor extremely quiet with no one coming down, he raised his eyebrows, his eyes deep as he told Alfred, ”Go check if the Sour Plum Juice in the kitchen is ready.”

It went without saying who the Sour Plum Juice was for.

Alfred quickly headed towards the kitchen.

Upstairs in the room, the outside was sunny, yet Nathalie Quinlan’s room was relatively dark; she used a netting curtain to block part of the sunlight, with only speckles of light falling on the floor.

Scattered on the ground were several crumpled pieces of paper.

The girl held a 2B pencil and was sketching on drawing paper; the embryonic forms of various jewels were clearly taking shape under her strokes.

But she wasn’t quite satisfied, as she was about to finish drawing a bracelet, she bit down on the pencil, leaned back, tore the drawing paper from the table, and once again crumpled it into a ball and threw it onto the ground.

Seeing that she had wrecked a whole sketchbook already, Nathalie Quinlan’s eyes were pitch black, her brows and eyes veiled with ice-cold irritation, she pulled open a drawer, about to take out another sketchbook.

Just as she was reaching for the stuff, a knocking on the door sounded.

”What is it?”

Although she tried hard to suppress the irritability in her heart, her voice still carried an edge of impatience.

Anyone who designs understands that being interrupted when things aren’t going smoothly can increase irritability by threefold compared to normal situations.

It’s not like I want to displace anger onto anyone, but it’s just really annoying.

”Do you want some Sour Plum Juice? I brought a serving up for you.” The man’s voice was clear and pleasant, like a gentle stream slightly soothing her inner tumult.

Nathalie Quinlan’s tense back relaxed a bit, she hummed, ”I didn’t lock the door, just come in.”

Her desk was cluttered with a laptop and drafts, casually tossing the pencil she had bitten on to the table, her whole demeanor relaxed. She didn’t hide anything in the room as Amadeus Yancey entered; quite casually she stood up from her chair and walked over.

”Is it cold?”

Nathalie Quinlan looked at the black and white mug he carried in, which was her usual cup, taking it from his hands, she looked up, her pitch-black eyes still lingering with the agitation from the unsuccessful design drafts, but it was evident that she controlled her temper well, not venting her frustration on unrelated people.

However, her heart was quite troubled at the moment, wanting to drink something cold to cool down.
