The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 920: Chapter 920: I Thought He Was Above Worldly Desires

”Eating breakfast won’t take too much time...” Alfred Garland noticed she really didn’t plan to eat, paused for a second, then turned his head to look at the man who had also just gotten up, ”Amadeus, Ms. Quinlan wants to go to the competition venue earlier.”

Amadeus Yancey looked up, his deep gaze turned towards the girl.

”Don’t want breakfast?”

”...”

Once Nathalie Quinlan was locked by his gaze, she always felt unsettled recently. She couldn’t even focus on the female voice explaining medical books through her earphones. She was just walking down the stairs, holding one of the earphone cords with one hand, her fingers pale and distinct, as beautiful as an artifact.

Nathalie Quinlan stayed silent for a moment, seeing the gaze still on her, helplessly supported her head with her hand, raised her dark eyes to meet his: ”It’s not that I don’t want to eat.”

”Rushed for time.”

She doesn’t like explaining to others, feeling it always troublesome: ”Mr. Avalon gave me seven books, I still have one uncompleted, just about ten pages left. So, I want to go early and finish those pages there at the venue.”

”It’s not like saying aiming not to be the last would only leave coming second to last,” Nathalie Quinlan turned her head, her eyebrows were resolute. She had fine facial features which didn’t affect the heroic and brisk feeling she exuded, largely because her facial lines were smooth. Unlike Ghania Quinlan’s delicate and soft features suggesting a pettiness, Nathalie’s eyes showed coldness and sharpness, which is why Emilia Sullivan, when angered, used to scold her for always having a stern face and looking at people with wolf pup-like eyes.

Actually, it wasn’t so. Nathalie’s indifference was just a part of her personality because her eyes were naturally dark, making others feel a chill when she looked at them.

Yet, Amadeus Yancey never minded the cold facade she wrapped herself in; he could always see the softness hidden deep within her gaze.

He picked up the car keys, said: ”I’ll drive you there.”

Seeing him just got up, his thin sweater loosely hanging showing a glimpse of collarbone, his hair untidied, a lock of hair on his forehead sticking up, looking lazy and casual. Nathalie raised her eyebrows, spoke to him: ”I can go by myself, you can come after eating, there’s still enough time.”

Amadeus Yancey, hands in pockets, squinting his eyes, walked towards her nonchalantly, while saying: ”I am not used to letting my girlfriend take a cab. Let’s go, there’s a bun shop nearby that tastes great. I used to pass by it every morning when I was in junior high. It’s still open. I’ll buy one for you later, you can eat it in the car, won’t delay your time.”

”So, you do have a habit of treating your girlfriend to buns?” Nathalie Quinlan lifted her chin, revealing her beautiful face under the hat’s brim, her eyes mischievous, yet her lips curled up, clearly in a good mood, joking with him.

Amadeus treating to buns, tsk, quite refreshing.

She thought someone of his status from childhood to adulthood would be the type who is untouched by worldly desires, but it turns out his upbringing sounded just like ordinary people.

Amadeus Yancey looked at the girl’s glossy lips, his gaze fixed for a second, pinched her fingertip, then shifted his line of sight, hmming in a laid-back, inadvertently captivating tone: ”No way, my girlfriend is not picky, easy to care for.”

Nathalie Quinlan’s fingertips tingled from his pinch, half-squinting her eyes, her gaze dark and deep, conceding to his girlfriend’s narrative: ”...not as easy to care for as you think, quite expensive.”
