The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 911: Chapter 911: I Heard They Really Look Down on Chinese Medicine

He felt that Nathalie Quinlan, despite her young age, was unfathomable.

This immeasurable depth, he had only seen in two people at his age over seventy—one was Nathalie Quinlan, and the other... also had a myriad of connections with Nathalie.

Amadeus Yancey.

Amadeus Yancey also had this undisturbed demeanor, as if nothing in the world could catch his eye, yet who in Beijing would dare claim they could provoke Amadeus.

How many could stand at the peak of the pyramid of fame and profit in Beijing at his age, making even the older generation look up to them?

So when such a person tells you in a calm tone that they want to go and see the world, that feeling... Shawn Norton felt as if he had a bowl of Spicy Beef Noodles, a bit unable to discern the complex flavors in his heart.

”Is this why you’re participating?” Although Shawn didn’t know how confident she was, he knew Nathalie Quinlan was no ordinary person, but in his heart, Nathalie was both his student and his cherished junior: ”...If you don’t get good results, going there won’t prove anything for Chinese Medicine.”

Just like traditional instruments, he had spent his life unable to let everyone know that the Konghou, this intangible cultural heritage, was still being passed down.

But look at those in Beijing who sought him out, which of them truly wanted to learn the Konghou from him? One by one, they came with violins, playing pianos, seeking his guidance, nothing more than wanting to gold-plate themselves with his reputation—how many of them truly loved music, loved traditional instruments?

This was also why he would rather have none than to compromise!

Over the years, he had met only one Nathalie Quinlan who truly loved traditional music, understood the Konghou, and also understood his perseverance.

Lighten Chaser.

Wasn’t that his lifelong aspiration, to take a ray of light from within the country and let it shine abroad, to show everyone our nation’s cultural essence!

Not the confused endeavors of people who merely chant ABCD and full of Yevsky.

Our culture predates their celebrated violins and pianos by far!

What they play with are but the leftovers from our ancestors!

Medicine is no different!

Nathalie Quinlan logged into Alliance Software on her laptop with one hand while keeping her voice very low as she spoke to him: ”...Isn’t there still a week left? I’ll go into seclusion this week, read more books, and search online to understand the competition better, aiming to bring back some decent results.”

...

One week to compete against others who have studied hard for years, even decades, Shawn really didn’t see much chance of success in that.

He thought of his personal concerns, weighed down by them, no longer tried to dissuade Nathalie from participating, and after a long silence, he said.

”If you want to go and participate, then go. Other than you, the Chinese Medicine department indeed can’t find anyone else. If you don’t go, Chinese Medicine will be mocked online again. If you go, at least no one can say that the Chinese Medicine department is too scared to participate...”

He didn’t say ’getting the last place if you go wouldn’t make much difference from not going at all.’

It’s just those online, who don’t understand, would focus their scolding of Chinese Medicine on Nathalie personally, surely digging up her exam scores again, mocking her for not pursuing a proper clinical major, and venturing into some worthless subject instead...

Shawn suppressed these worries and adjusted his emotions, asking her, ”Is the competition venue set? Where is it? I’ll come to support and cheer you on.”

”I don’t know, they haven’t told me yet.” Nathalie’s line of sight fell upon the computer screen, where @ilovebeingskinny had sent her a message.

She clicked on it with her mouse.
