The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 384: Chapter 384: What Happened to Alfred Garland?_1

Ghania Quinlan stared at the text on her phone, her heart slowly calming down from its anxious flutters.

Indeed, she could already score around 600 in her academic subjects. Nathalie Quinlan hadn’t come to Beijing early nor sought out professional teachers for tutoring; there was no way she could score better than Ghania.

Her score wasn’t even top-notch among a group of elite students.

So what if Mr. Norton took a fancy to Nathalie?

Mr. Norton couldn’t possibly let her skip the exams and go straight into Tsinghua University!

With the power of public opinion being so strong nowadays, it wouldn’t be easy for Nathalie to take the back door!

Thinking thus, Ghania steadied her spirits, and her mood improved significantly.

She took a deep breath, straightened her back, rummaged out the exercise booklets she had previously obtained from Nathalie’s place, set her phone aside, and delved into her studies.

She had originally planned to take a good rest and give herself a half-day off after submitting her academic records today.

Now, she no longer felt that way.

She only wanted to study hard and outperform Nathalie in tomorrow’s exam!

Beijing’s two most prestigious high schools, Tsinghua University and Southern University, always scheduled their joint exams on the same day every year.

On Saturday, the university town was bustling, and cars were parked everywhere along the roads in front of the two schools.

To avoid traffic congestion, the traffic police had arrived on the scene early to control the flow, blockading intersections where necessary, and handing out tickets where needed.

Nevertheless, many parents, determined to accompany their children to the exams, preferred to risk a ticket rather than not park their cars by the roadside.

The exams started at 9 a.m.

Nathalie Quinlan didn’t wake up until 8 a.m.; after getting up for her morning wash and having breakfast, it was already 8:30.

Alfred Garland saw that time was tight, yet she was unhurried and irritated from not sleeping well, and he had already silently cursed in his heart, presuming Ms. Quinlan wouldn’t make it.

As anxious as he was, he was afraid that urging Nathalie would further affect her state of mind for the exam, so he had to forcefully suppress his urgency, sitting there with a constipated look on his face, restlessly glancing at her from time to time.

Nathalie was casually drinking the milk Amadeus Yancey had given her after a leisurely breakfast. She had made it halfway through her milk when she couldn’t stand it anymore. She glanced at Alfred from the corner of her eye and asked the man sitting opposite her, ”What’s up with Alfred?”

He had been looking at her with a mournful expression, as if lamenting ’the wind howls and the Yi River is cold,’ making her feel uneasy even while eating breakfast.

Amadeus Yancey was quite calm as he peeled another egg for her and pushed it across the table, not even lifting his eyelids, he said, ”He probably has a bad stomach, don’t mind him.”

”Oh.”

Nathalie finished the rest of her milk, looked down, and saw another egg in her bowl. Her dark brows instantly knitted together. With a tense face, her eyes revealing irritation, she said,

”Some experts have specifically studied the differences between free-range eggs and regular eggs. The nutritional value of free-range eggs is the same as that of regular eggs, and sometimes they’re even inferior to regular eggs.”

She bit into the egg; it was warm and the taste wasn’t as off-putting as she had imagined.

Nathalie’s furrowed brows gradually relaxed, and she took a few more bites. But when she got to the yolk, she couldn’t swallow any more. She grabbed the cup beside her, gulped down some cold water, and forced the egg down. She sat there, pausing for a couple of seconds before recovering.
