The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 361: Chapter 361: Mr. Norton Didn’t Agree with Anyone_1

In the wealthy district of Beijing, Ivy Wilmar returned home exhausted.

”I’m back.”

In the living room, Myles Sullivan had sent someone to pick up Emilia Sullivan and Jeff Quinlan from the airport. Ghania Quinlan was with them, and several people were sitting and chatting in the living room.

Hearing her arrival, Myles Sullivan was the first to look over. When he saw her, he stood up and went to greet her, ”Back already? Tired?”

Ivy Wilmar saw his considerate help with her bag, and her tightly wound nerves relaxed, her face less unpleasant, shaking her head, ”Not too bad.”

Myles Sullivan handed her bag over to the family servant and immediately asked her, ”Did you meet with Mr. Norton today?”

Ghania Quinlan stood obediently beside the sofa; upon hearing this, she couldn’t help but brighten her eyes, looking in Ivy Wilmar’s direction, her heart racing up to her throat as she nervously clenched her hands at her side.

Ivy Wilmar didn’t give Ghania so much as a glance, removing the scarf from around her neck with a resigned expression, ”I did meet him, but Mr. Norton didn’t give us any face. He outright rejected us. Moreover, I ran into Celine Tucker and her daughter. They also wanted to find Mr. Norton, but in the end, he didn’t agree to anyone, simply saying he wasn’t interested in taking apprentices.”

It meant no opportunity, which Myles Sullivan did not find surprising. He sighed, ”Ah, I guessed it. If it were so easy to persuade Mr. Norton, he wouldn’t be Mr. Norton! Let it be, after all, we hadn’t pinned all our hopes on him. If this path is blocked, we’ll find another way.”

Ivy Wilmar felt the same way, nodding, ”Yeah.”

Originally, they had hoped to use the connection with Mr. Norton, which, if successful, would have been a shortcut for Ghania Quinlan to easily mix into the circles of Beijing.

Now that the shortcut was gone, whether it was Myles Sullivan or Ivy Wilmar, there was some discomfort in everyone’s heart.

Ghania Quinlan felt the low pressure in the house; her toes awkwardly came together, and she lowered her head. Even though she hadn’t done anything wrong, she felt as though she couldn’t hold her head up high.

Jeff Quinlan and Emilia Sullivan felt the same tension.

They sat on the sofa as if there were needles beneath them, shifting uncomfortably from side to side.

Myles Sullivan probably realized the low pressure he had inadvertently released, which weighed down the Quinlan family so that they couldn’t lift their heads. He consciously suppressed his discomfort and forced a smile, speaking gently to Ghania, ”Ghania, I and your aunt Ivy will continue to look for opportunities with Mr. Norton for you. Right now, the most important thing is that you pass the independent admissions exam for Tsinghua University. The test is on the 6th, which is in three days. You need to use this time to review thoroughly and do more practice problems. Doing more is always better than doing less, and hard work pays off. Understand?”

”Yes, uncle, you can rest assured, I will do more practice problems these days.” Ghania Quinlan lifted her head, her attitude was quite proper.

Myles Sullivan, seeing her earnest attitude, eased his expression, then turned his head to Emilia Sullivan and said, ”Sister, brother-in-law, since you’ve come to Beijing, you should stay here at our house. I’ll have someone prepare the guest room.”

They had already discussed this during the two hours of cold wind on the road from the airport. So, as soon as Myles Sullivan spoke up, Emilia Sullivan immediately replied, following the earlier agreement, ”No need to go to all that trouble; Jeff and I have booked a hotel, so we won’t bother you all.”

Ivy Wilmar looked at her in surprise, not expecting her husband’s sister to have this level of emotional intelligence. But when she looked at Jeff Quinlan, she understood it all.

Emilia Sullivan lacked this perception, but Jeff Quinlan, having done business for many years and fought in the marketplace, most likely came up with the idea.

A look of contempt crossed her face.

Not having them stay at their house was for the best. One Ghania Quinlan visiting was enough; two more, honestly speaking, the Sullivan family didn’t lack a pair of chopsticks, but who wouldn’t find it annoying to constantly see relatives from her husband’s broke family.
