The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 360: Chapter 360: Traditional Culture Has Ultimately Declined_1

”Chinese Medicine is not a good choice,” Shawn Norton spoke earnestly, almost as he wished he could bare his heart for her to see. ”It will only delay your future and waste your talent.”

He valued talent as much as life itself, and wouldn’t bother persuading anyone else, but this was her -- how could he bear to watch her choose such a difficult path?

Nathalie Quinlan could tell sincerity from pretense. She normally didn’t care what others said, yet she couldn’t help sighing now, changing her pose, propping her head, and wearing a look of helplessness, ”I like Chinese Medicine.”

Shawn Norton said, ”Liking it can’t put food on the table!”

Anyone else hearing this might be taken aback.

Shawn Norton was known for being eccentric and aloof; the last thing he cared about was money. Prospects and money were like nonsense to him.

Fortunes couldn’t buy his happiness!

If he desired money and fame, there wouldn’t be any opportunities for young people like Ivy Wilmar to rise.

He was too disdainful of these things, which is why people said he was arrogant and hard to approach.

For someone as proud as himself to earnestly persuade another that ’liking something can’t sustain you’ was quite the impact, almost like Mars colliding with Earth.

But Nathalie Quinlan didn’t feel that way. She answered lazily, ”There’s another reason. Studying medicine can save lives.”

”The world is too cold, it needs people to pass on the warmth.”

Shawn Norton blew his beard and glared, ”Music can also transmit warmth and save lives!”

Nathalie Quinlan had never met anyone as persistent. She smiled relaxedly, quite the rogue, ”No, music can save the soul but not lives. I want to convey that warmth tangibly, not just through music to heal wounds.”

Shawn Norton didn’t understand and was about to argue, giving her examples of music saving lives.

But then he listened to her speak steadily, ”I once met a child, very small and well-behaved, sensible too. He was unlucky, born with a disability that tormented him from birth until he grew up and understood it. Music can soothe his wounded soul, but it can’t cure the disease he was born with. I want to save people, not just comfort them in their hearts, but to let them live healthy lives, to have a life like ordinary people.”

She continued slowly, ”There’s another reason I’m studying medicine. I have an elder who’s been paralyzed in bed for many years, and we never found the right treatment. Recently, I did, but his health is too poor for surgery right now. There are a few things I haven’t figured out yet, I want to learn more, understand those difficulties, so I can perform the surgery on him as soon as possible.”

Shawn Norton fell silent and didn’t know what to say for a long time, ”Studying Chinese Medicine won’t enable you to perform surgeries. Better to study Western Medicine. I know Adelle Wafford in Tsinghua University, she’s a professor in the clinical department, very well-known domestically. If you want to study medicine, I can talk to her, and you can learn under her guidance.”

Adelle Wafford? Nathalie Quinlan recalled where she had heard that name, and casually declined, ”No need. I just want to study Chinese Medicine.”

Shawn Norton didn’t understand what was so appealing about Chinese Medicine that attracted her, but he couldn’t talk her out of it, sighing, ”As you wish. Chinese Medicine is also one of the traditional cultures, it’s a pity it has declined...”

Just like the konghou, everyone knew that his greatest skill was playing the konghou, but people kept bringing him piano and violin music.

It’s a shame it has declined indeed!

Shawn Norton couldn’t help but feel a bitter sadness. After all, he was in his sixties or seventies, half in the grave. Briefly melancholic, he remembered something, ”Right, do you have any plans after your exams, or are you in a hurry to return to McKinney? If you’re not in a rush, could you spare a day to help me with something?”
