Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 1300 - 665: Journey of the Pterosaur

At this moment, the outside was completely surrounded by giant bats.

They didn’t seem to have any intention of attacking the wreckage of the already damaged flying vehicle for the time being.

And Xu Xin initiated his mind-reading ability at this moment.

[I can hear... heartbeats and breathing, there’s... something alive here.]

[There are... two?]

[Feels... like the other entity is... very small.]

[Pain... pain...]

[Right at... this position.]

[Just now, it clearly felt... very large, why is this heartbeat... so weak...?]

[Quickly... dying, perhaps?]

The inner voices of a group of giant bats outside immediately entered Xu Xin’s head.

Indeed, the intelligence of these beasts seemed to be much higher.

Although these giant bats, living underground, don’t seem to excel at communication, their inner voices can still be heard, albeit with difficulty.

However...

[Feels... not so small either...]

[What... exactly is this?]

”Clang!”

The wreckage of the damaged flying vehicle was pushed twice more.

Xu Xin listened to these inner voices, his heart stirred.

These giant bats seemed to...

Not be able to see them?

Always living in a completely dark underground world, these bats’ eyes probably haven’t seen light for a long time.

Actually, bats use ultrasonic waves for echolocation, but their vision is not weak. Though the visible distance isn’t long, most bats possess strong night vision abilities.

But even with strong night vision abilities, in the complete darkness of the underground, seeing anything is impossible.

How can you see without light?

It’s not like a thermal imaging infrared night-vision device.

The suddenly appearing spotlights from the flying vehicle illuminated them, possibly letting their eyes see light for the first time.

Even now, the damaged flying vehicle hadn’t completely stopped functioning, its spotlights still shining, illuminating the surroundings.

The ”intense” light might truly blind them.

...No, that’s not right.

The inner voices of the bats indicated they might not have seen the light.

Otherwise, witnessing light for the first time in a bat’s life, even if their eyes were unharmed, there should at least be some surprise, right?

Being blinded would surely provoke some thoughts, wouldn’t it?

But there’s absolutely none.

Could it be these bats really can’t see anything?

Have their eyes... degenerated?

...Is this possible?

The giant beast has only appeared for a thousand years, in a species’ evolutionary history, a thousand years doesn’t amount to much more than a single day.

A thousand years and the eyes have degraded...

Seems improbable, doesn’t it?

Xu Xin gazed through the broken window at their eyes.

And then...

Immediately locked eyes with a giant bat’s bulging, bell-like eyes.

The massive eyeballs made his heart skip a beat.

However...

The other’s inner voice seemed unchanged.

[...Is it going to die?]

[...Forget about it.]

[What’s the... sound inside?]

[Too hard, can’t bite, not food.]

[Leaving.]

[Recovered, no longer hurts... I won’t disturb... this thing anymore.]

By this time, bats outside had already begun rotating their huge bodies and were leaving, soaring off to where they had previously flown from.

The giant bat that had just locked eyes with Xu Xin also turned to leave.

Xu Xin thought about it, but didn’t move.

Although he wanted to try communicating with this group of giant bats, if they could retreat on their own, why not?

Soon, the group of giant bats all left.

Seeing the last giant bat fly away, Xu Xin slowly let out a breath.

He turned to look behind him.

Old Yang hadn’t spoken during this time, just quietly drawing something on the ground.

At a glance, Xu Xin saw it was a blood-colored pattern.

”What are you...” Xu Xin said quietly.

”Teleportation Array Pattern,” Old Yang said softly, ”I can draw a teleportation array pattern here, able to teleport directly away.”

”Teleportation Array Pattern? Didn’t you say using a teleportation device would expose us?” Xu Xin frowned.

That surely wouldn’t work.

If they got exposed, they’d be doomed.

”Of course, I’d teleport alone; you’ll use your own method,” Old Yang said quietly, ”You can’t come with me; you’ll return to that World Tree to wait for me, and I’ll find another flying vehicle to come over.”

”...Can’t we have someone come find us directly?” Xu Xin asked.

”What are you thinking... Such a vast underground world, and it can’t be located with satellites, how could anyone find us? Besides, we’ve never had such a situation; there’s just no experience of rescue.”

”I’m just saying.” Xu Xin waved his hand, ”Let’s not leave yet, let’s think of another way.”

It had already been over an hour since they left, only about three hundred kilometers were left to go?

Starting over here, and Old Yang having to bring another flying vehicle, who knows how long it would take...

This won’t work.

This was practically wasting the time Ji Chaoyang and the others were desperately fighting for.

Xu Xin frowned.

What to do...

Come to think of it, there was a method that might be feasible. He had considered that method before.

They could all go into the wristband, then let Old Yang take the wristband to teleport, maybe directly arriving at their destination, and it should remain undetected.

However, this would mean essentially entrusting their lives to Old Yang.

After all, without Old Yang’s permission, they couldn’t get out. If Old Yang didn’t release them, they’d likely starve to death in the spatial wristband.
