Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 1270 - 654: A Small Band of Resisters (2)

As for the other survivors, from their point of view, there’s no need to specifically deal with them.

It’s like no one would bother to go out into the wild to kill wild cockroaches; they don’t even want to bother.

Not to mention, now the place is full of mutated creatures, all natural enemies of ordinary humans.

Perhaps in their view, if left alone for a while, these survivors will perish by themselves.

For now, this seems to be the thought of the alien invaders.

But if that’s the case...

Why has the communication between survivors suddenly been restored?

It’s really strange...

”Can you contact the person in charge of selecting survivors?” Xu Xin asked the middle-aged man.

”I should be able to, but for some reason, I can’t right now.” The middle-aged man looked troubled, ”I can’t reach them now.”

Naturally, inside the World Tree, it’s impossible to make contact.

But once outside the World Tree, it can be done.

”Come with me, help me get in touch with them, I have some things to ask them.”

”It’s an honor.” The middle-aged man was very respectful to Xu Xin, then glanced at his son.

”Your son can stay here; after all, you’ll be living here from now on,” Xu Xin said tentatively, wanting to see the middle-aged man’s attitude.

”Live... live here? Here is...”

”’The deity’ lives in a tree house nearby.”

The man took a deep breath, his face turning red again: ”This...I... I’m truly honored!”

It seems there are no problems.

As long as he’s not like Lou Fei’Er, who acts as naturally as drinking water, there’s no problem.

”Let’s go, come with me for a bit.”

”Go out? Um, how should I address you?”

”My name is Xu Xin, don’t you know?”

”How can I call you by your name!” The middle-aged man sternly refused, ”How about I call you Divine Envoy, sir?”

Divine Envoy, sir...?

Xu Xin rolled his eyes slightly.

Oh great, now he’s not only a deity in the eyes of the underground world residents, but also a Divine Envoy to survivors from a thousand years ago?

Gotta admit, it feels kind of novel.

”Let’s go.”

He left the middle-aged man’s son here as leverage and took the middle-aged man outside the World Tree.

”This...” The middle-aged man was so shocked by what he saw that he couldn’t speak.

He truly didn’t expect that the vast world just now was actually the inside of the World Tree he had always been observing!

”As expected of the deity...” The man swallowed hard again, ”I was right, how could survivors possess a World Tree, turns out it’s all the work of the deity... Didn’t expect that the inside of a World Tree where the deity resides is actually a world...”

He took this World Tree as the handiwork of the monster, and became even more reverent to the ”deity.”

Xu Xin didn’t bother explaining.

The more reverent he was to that monster, the easier it was to control and use him.

So no need for explanations.

”Make the call.”

”Alright.”

The middle-aged man immediately took out a communication tool: ”May I know which area’s person in charge to contact?”

Xu Xin thought for a moment: ”Contact the person in charge of Zone 1. Zones 1-5 should all have the same person in charge, right? Ask them why the world channel suddenly opened and what they plan to do next.”

”Okay.” The middle-aged man nodded and made the call immediately.

Soon, the other end picked up: ”Hello, who is this?”

The middle-aged man turned on a sort of speaker mode so Xu Xin could hear too.

The voice on the other end was very familiar, it was the man who had sent the World Tree to Shi Wanyun from the World Tree on a small island in the sea back then.

”I am a direct subordinate of the deity, and I have some matters that need confirmation from you, please cooperate.” The middle-aged man’s voice steadied, though it held a hint of pride.

It seemed being appointed as an ”assistant” by the monster just now made him quite proud.

There was silence on the other end for a long time, then: ”Please go ahead.”

The person seemed to have no doubt about the man’s identity either.

The man posed Xu Xin’s two questions.

The other side was silent for a long time, then said, ”The deities have not given any instructions for three days; we have no further actions. As for opening the world channel, it was because survivors in other areas were very panicked due to mission failures, we thought that opening the world channel, allowing them to communicate with Zones 1 and 188, could stabilize these survivors, which would be helpful for the upcoming selection.”

This reason was somewhat bizarre.

Xu Xin slightly furrowed his brow.

It felt like the other side was... lying?

”So, are you making arbitrary decisions without the deity’s instruction?” The middle-aged man’s voice was angry, ”You dared to take action without the deity’s orders, you...”

”Hold on, let me speak with him.” Xu Xin extended his hand to the middle-aged man.

”Ah... okay, sir.” The middle-aged man respectfully handed the communication device to Xu Xin.

”...Who are you?”

The voice from the other end was a bit puzzled, and rather uneasy. The middle-aged man’s previous ”sir” address left the other person slightly apprehensive and uncertain.

”Who I am doesn’t matter,” Xu Xin turned off the speaker and put the device to his ear, ”you... you’re helping the survivors, helping humanity, right?”

For some reason, this thought suddenly flashed in Xu Xin’s mind.

The other person is helping them!

Is helping humanity!

Xu Xin recalled the words of this man back in that sea-bound World Tree.
