Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 1290 - 661: Dark World (3)

”Hey, hey, can you look ahead? Not paying attention while flying the plane? Aren’t you afraid of crashing?” Xu Ying complained.

A speed of 500 kilometers per hour is already very fast for humans.

Especially like now, only less than a hundred meters from the ground, basically equivalent to flying close to the surface.

Watching the scene below rapidly retreating, to be honest, still gives a bit of a scary feeling.

”Don’t worry, this area is very open. We still have to go forward for about half an hour or so before we reach relatively complex terrain,” the man said, ”Besides, the flying shuttle is on autopilot. It can detect obstacles several kilometers ahead. If it encounters a less complicated obstacle, it will automatically go around it, and if it’s a complex obstacle, it will slow down and give a warning, so no need to worry.”

”I see. But, this stuff is over a hundred years old, isn’t there any safety hazard?” Xu Ying leaned on the back of the pilot’s seat, looking at the instrument panel in front, ”This is practically an antique among machines, and wasn’t it taken by you guys back then because it was broken...”

”Don’t worry, the one flying it is me. If there were a problem, I wouldn’t dare to fly it,” the man laughed, ”To tell you the truth, this thing was actually not really malfunctioning when reported as scrapped a hundred years ago. We reported it intentionally so we could pocket it. We wouldn’t dare fly a soon-to-be-scrapped shuttle.”

”...Well, that’s a familiar move.”

”Haha.”

The shuttle continued to move forward.

”Brother, put me into the wristband. I’ll explain the current situation to them.”

”Okay.” Xu Xin nodded, and then stored Xu Ying inside.

Then, he released Keke.

Keke seemed to be running, and as soon as it was out, it dove straight into his arms.

”Purr?” The little one lifted its head and then looked around confusedly.

”Your pet?” The man turned his head to look at Keke in Xu Xin’s arms, then exclaimed in surprise, ”Ah, this little animal... Let me think... A red panda? Is it a red panda? Hasn’t this species gone extinct?”

”Purr? Purr purr!” Keke was immediately dissatisfied upon hearing that, waving its little paws to playfully swat at the man’s face, its big tail almost swiping at his face, ”Purr purr purr!”

”... The last time I saw this little thing was a thousand years ago.” The man’s voice instantly became somewhat melancholic, ”I thought the red panda went extinct a millennium ago. I didn’t expect to see this animal again. Truly... nostalgic...”

”You can remember things from a thousand years ago so clearly?” Xu Xin couldn’t help but ask.

”There are memories in one’s heart that can never be erased,” the man sighed, ”And the memories from that peaceful era a thousand years ago are the most profound in my heart. Even though that memory only lasted for thirty years, it’s much more profound than the near thousand years after the war. I can still clearly remember my daughter squealing from the cuteness when she saw a red panda back then...”

Daughter...

”Your daughter later...”

The man gave a wry smile and said in a low voice, ”She and my wife died in that disaster. Only I was chosen to become a survivor.”

”...I’m sorry.”

”It’s okay, I brought it up first. Sigh... I really hope you guys can succeed...”

The man’s tone carried bitterness, but it seemed... completely devoid of hatred.

Indeed, anyone who has been completely subjugated and enslaved for a thousand years would have had their hatred completely worn away.

From his tone, Xu Xin could also hear that he indeed did not truly believe Xu Xin and the others could succeed.

But he still hoped Xu Xin and the others could succeed.

”Purr...” Keke seemed to notice the man’s low mood and stopped making noises.

Then it got up and leaned on the cabin window, looking outside, tilting its little head: ”...Purr?”

Xu Xin petted Keke’s small head and also looked out at the rapidly retreating desolate underground world.

Can they... succeed?
