Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 1289 - 661: Dark World (Part 2)

In other words, when the storm passes, Xu Xin and the others can pick a time to return to that World Tree.

This is the fallback plan they’ve prepared for themselves.

Scorched earth tactics are unwise, because the disparity in strength and information between the two sides is too great.

The odds of winning aren’t high, and scuttling their own ship is semi-suicidal and meaningless; modern warfare isn’t something that can be resolved with morale alone.

”Alright.” Xu Xin nodded, ”Always be prepared; there’s no guarantee how long they can hold out over there.”

”I’ll take you to the underground world.”

Soon, a few of them used the World Tree’s root system elevator to descend into the underground world.

This underground world resides beneath an entire deep sea.

Moreover, as there are no crystal mines here, the underground world is pitch black.

When Xu Xin and the others emerged from the World Tree’s root system elevator, all around was an utterly pitch-black environment.

He immediately took out a tree house core to illuminate the surroundings.

But the range it could light up was only about a few dozen meters.

The stony, rugged terrain had no soil whatsoever, and the surroundings were totally silent, like a dark abyss; the silence instilled fear.

This was completely different from the underground world he had seen before, which was full of monsters and terrifying giant beasts everywhere.

This was an undeveloped dark world.

”After all, this place is quite close to the alien invaders’ base, just over a thousand kilometers away. They haven’t conducted giant beast experiments here,” the man explained to Xu Xin and Xu Ying again, ”Moreover, since there are no crystal mines nearby, except for locations very close to their base, it’s mostly undeveloped territory.”

Before the man finished speaking, suddenly, about two hundred meters away, two beams of strong light shot up, illuminating the vicinity.

Xu Xin and Xu Ying also saw the source of the light.

It was the flying shuttle the man had mentioned.

”Is this the flying vehicle you were talking about? So small...” Standing beside the flying shuttle, Xu Ying remarked sarcastically.

This was a very small aircraft, equipped with three propellers on the sides and rear.

Its internal space was cramped. Apart from the cockpit, the cabin could only accommodate four or five people.

Its interior was similar to that of a car or a small helicopter.

However, the propellers were very large, with each one longer than the fuselage.

It looked like an oversized remote-controlled drone.

”This is our flying shuttle, the version suitable for the underground world,” the man approached the flying shuttle, ”It’s not very fast but very agile, making it suitable for navigating through certain complex terrains in the underground world.”

As he spoke, the man opened the cabin door and entered the cockpit: ”You can’t pilot it, I’ll take you over there.”

Xu Xin and Xu Ying exchanged a glance, then entered one after another.

The internal space was indeed very tight, only allowing them to sit inside like in a car, unable to stand up.

”Close the cabin door, we’re taking off.”

The propellers spun rapidly, lifting the entire fuselage into the air.

Surprisingly, although the three large propellers were rotating at such speed, there was almost no noise.

Silent propellers?

”The noise is really small,” Xu Xin marveled.

This technology was somewhat baffling, the noise was probably quieter than a computer fan...

”It certainly needs to be quiet. The flying shuttle is intended for exploration in the underground world, and if it’s too noisy, it would drown out some critical sounds and attract large numbers of giant beasts, so it must be stealthy.”

It’s not bad indeed, at least it wouldn’t be discovered by alien invaders because of the sound.

The sense of security greatly increased.

The shuttle rose into the air, reaching nearly a hundred meters above the ground.

”Hold on tight.”

This area was relatively flat, so the flying shuttle began to accelerate horizontally.

After a strong feeling of being pushed backward, the speed stabilized.

Meanwhile, a large lamp on the shuttle’s underside illuminated a circular area of several hundred meters in diameter on the ground below.

”Wow...this thing is really impressive.”

Xu Xin looked out the window.

The underground world was not entirely flat like the human base in the underground world; that location was deliberately chosen. In fact, most of the terrain in the underground world was very rugged.

Here, the terrain included both vertical elevation.

The ground and dome often connected, resembling large caves.

Thus, if one wanted to traverse the underground world, ground vehicles were out of the question.

And among flying vehicles, conventional aircraft, which were fast but not agile, could not undertake long journeys.

The extremely agile flying shuttle, capable of hovering, was the most suitable means of transportation for navigating the underground world.

But the flying shuttle had a drawback: its speed wasn’t very fast, at most five to six hundred kilometers per hour.

This speed was far inferior to commercial aircraft of a thousand years ago.

Fortunately, their location was only a thousand kilometers from their destination, so a speed of five to six hundred kilometers per hour was sufficient.

And luckily they were relatively close. If they were to use this shuttle to cross the ocean, it would be too slow. Especially considering Earth’s current size, it’s far beyond the previous Earth’s comparison.

”You might be wondering, how can we explore the underground world with the shuttle travelling so slowly?” the man piloting the flying shuttle turned his head to ask.
