Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Shaer and Celene glanced at each other, each harboring their own thoughts and confidences.

Only Hill was tightly holding his Magic Book, staring at the gigantic screen, hoping to bestow himself a bit more mental power, seizing every moment.

However, the eruption of such profound runes indicated that Asmodeus and the unlocking of the Pool of Life had reached the most critical stage.

Thus, even if Hill felt regret, he could only persist for a few more minutes.

He raised his head in a daze, only to find himself divided into two parts within the hall by a faint light screen.

Hill suddenly turned his head... Could it be?

Hmm?

No fight broke out!

Then why was he isolated?

Could an argument have started?

Shaer wasn’t provoked by Celene during this period, was she?

Moreover, weren’t they discussing that trivial matter of the Queen of Chaos earlier... That squid shouldn’t have become their main point of contention.

As for who cast this relatively neutral light screen, Hill had no doubt.

It’s only Shaer.

Hill could feel that Shaer had a high degree of goodwill towards him... William must have explained past matters very clearly.

Therefore, when Shaer looked at him, it was almost as if she’d taken the role of his elder sister-in-law.

Of course, that was because Shaer found his personality and actions quite satisfactory, allowing her to view Hill as a subordinate brought by William.

Hill was not confident enough to believe that without William’s existence, Shaer would still focus on him.

The heart of the Lady of the Night is not so vast.

Regardless of one’s good character, it doesn’t matter to her... unless they become a thorn in her side.

Shaer immediately felt Hill’s gaze.

Although a hint of mockery hung on her face, Shaer did not lose her vigilance.

She quickly dismissed the light screen between them: ”Hill, how was it? Did you get anything out of this?”

Hill smiled and nodded: ”Very well, though I didn’t memorize most of the runes, I’ve gained some insights.

If there’s another opportunity... I’ll surely glean more.”

Shaer squinted her eyes... She understood the underlying meaning in Hill’s words: Hill not only memorized the Light Runes, but more than one.

Though, not many.

Shaer estimated he might have three or four.

But this would be enough for Hill’s mage journey to move smoothly, reaching above level 33.

For Mages, after level 33, the rapid growth brought by talent must come to an end... Even Elminster finds it hard to make progress at this stage.

His reason for becoming a Magic Elector, aside from his good relationship with Mystree back then, was due to his stagnation needing external stimuli to help accumulate his mana quickly.

Otherwise, relying solely on time’s accumulation... it’s uncertain how long it would really take.

However, Hill should have an advantage in this aspect.

He doesn’t need to take on other magic-based professions to increase his mana growth rate.

Being a Nature Warlock should suffice as a Chosen strength.

No matter how much he loves the mage profession... as long as his Warlock profession hasn’t stagnated, it’s hard for the mage profession to surpass the Warlock profession.

Shaer absent-mindedly thought about knowledge that might make Hill cry once he knows, then laughed at the Warlock with a promising mage part-time future: ”Good, then this journey wasn’t in vain.”

Hill laughed, his eyes squinting into crescents.

Then the real Crescent Moon spoke: ”Hill, what happened to your Magic Book?

While traversing the Stellar Realm, did someone sabotage it?

Do you need my help?”

”No need!” Hill quickly responded, then awkwardly explained with a smile: ”When I infiltrated this world, I didn’t dare to carry any Divine Artifacts that might easily attract Asmodeus’ attention.

The Magic Book worried for my safety and thus split itself.

This damage is irreversible, there’s no other way.

Sigh~

I can only slowly patch these deficiencies with my mana and spiritual power.”

Celene looked at the Magic Book with some regret: ”My Silvermoon Blessing has faded.

Even if it recovers, it’s hard to restore it to its former state.”

She also knew that once a Divine Artifact got damaged, only the owner’s spiritual power and mana could help mend it, and other people trying to meddle would be akin to snatching away someone else’s good fortune.

She certainly wouldn’t commit such a wicked act.

After all, Hill’s quite a good person.

Even though she didn’t quite like her manner, she respected her enough and did not take sides because she had a better relationship with Shaer.

Celene didn’t care whether anyone intervened when she and Shaer fought... Toril was a place where one only survives by being selfish... But she cared deeply if someone unprovoked showed favoritism right in front of her face.

Heh~

Shaer frowned and looked at Celene: ”Don’t disturb Hill.

He’s not like you; he can see with eyes over there.”

”Oh...” Celene puffed her cheeks in slight dissatisfaction, but after glancing at Hill, she chose to give up, ”Got it.”

Hill gently exhaled... He always felt that a certain Great Peacock sleeping beside him was also letting out a long breath.

-----------------

Although Lansendel had an avatar at the peak of Heavenly Mountain, beside the Pool of Life, to witness the enormous change.

He wasn’t assured about his avatar in that world either!

If the avatar got hit a couple of times, it’s no big deal, but if that Divine Artifact under his claw had any trouble, what could be done!

Thus, he had already decided that even if he were mocked for pretending to sleep or angered by Celene, he must always be prepared to grab his bag and flee.

Fortunately, Shaer stepped in.

Hill truly was a lucky star; in the future, he must place Hill’s portrait in his Temple!

Being a good artist himself, adept at musical instruments and painting, Lansendel genuinely felt from the heart.

Then his attention was drawn towards the Pool of Life below.

After Asmodeus ceased his actions, the Pool of Life emitted a glow for another minute, followed by a massive explosion, and light flooded the sky... even a huge rainbow appeared.

Such a vivid rainbow appearing at the peak of Heavenly Mountain, a place that is purely white, was simply unbelievable.

Lansendel still understood that there was no actual sun in Heavenly Mountain.

Their white light was really the glow caused by the concentration of Positive Energy... the color was purely white.

Thus, if a rainbow was seen on any layer, it only proved that a Deity from that Plane wished for one there and specifically created it.

But the Gods of Order at the top of Heavenly Mountain would absolutely not do such a thing... they preferred to cover all unrest with that white.

Thus, the appearance of this rainbow could only prove that the Pool of Life sprayed its dense Positive Energy mist filled throughout the whole pool up into the sky to avoid affecting Asmodeus’s actions.

The Positive Energy rubbed against each other, and then water droplets were formed by Positive Energy in varying sizes... hence such a natural rainbow was formed.

Lansendel hesitated.

His demand for Positive Energy Crystals or Water of Life wasn’t that high, a bit reluctant to enter the Pool of Life, which clearly had a tacit understanding with Asmodeus and was naturally biased towards this Lord of Hell.

Then, he saw the Crystal Spider unhesitatingly dive in.

Also, Celene, who was watching the show beside him, almost jumped right in at the same moment.

Probably not thinking much either.

Lansendel was bewildered... Was he overthinking, or did these two act decisively?

But he couldn’t hesitate any longer, that rainbow was clearly contracting, and the Pool of Life was probably about to close and run.

The worst would be losing a powerful avatar, and then squat at home for 500 years!

Lansendel gritted his teeth and leapt in fiercely.

”Ah~ The Pool of Life is another absolute space!” Celene muttered in Hill’s Magic Tower, ”My avatar’s connection is severed.”

Hill turned his head to look: ”Lansendel’s camera also became useless!”

”I saw him make a throwing motion, and then my connection with the avatar was severed.” Celene’s expression clearly wasn’t happy.

For these rather powerful deities, every incident that made them feel they weren’t strong enough would make them quite displeased.

Some deities knew shame and strived to overcome it, while others would try every means to pull the opponent they couldn’t defeat down to their level and then, eliminate them.

Of course, some would sigh a few times and treat the matter as if it never existed... like Celene.

And Lansendel.

The Great Peacock also stood up, but his focus was solely on: ”What? Can’t see outside either?

Even though inside is full of light!

How could there be a place where not even a trace of light can get out?”

”The God of Order discovered the commotion of the pool.” Unfazed by this, Shaer paid more attention to the other side of the battle, ”The Pool of Life did this not without cost; it didn’t escape.

No, it should be said that it knew it could only remain in place, so it used all its energy to seal off the connection with the outside.

This probably isn’t something it can always do.

If it’s a short-term seal, no matter how strong, it can be understood.”

”Probably not short-term; rather, he can do it if he wants.” Lansendel shook his head, ”Though even I was blocked from contact, the abundance of energy inside is probably unmatched in the entire Multiverse.”

That’s not necessarily so.

Hill suddenly remembered the area around the root center of the World Tree... although its roots spread throughout the universe, it also grew from a certain patch of earth.

That place allowed the World Tree, such a powerful organism, to grow into a sky-reaching structure in an instant, and even now it supports his growth with its energy pool.
