Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 897: Chapter 693: Laila’s Wish and Luskan’s Future

Not to mention whether William has awakened his prophetic talents, at the moment, far away in Toril, Hill was a bit surprised to see the chaos in the undead tribe’s battle.

The pirates of Luskan, and even some adventurers didn’t really cause much trouble for the undead tribe; the greatest harm was mostly caused by themselves.

During this period, he had also watched a few battles of the undead tribe in Deepwater City, and they clearly were still in a state where they couldn’t attack ordinary people who are not of the evil faction!

Moreover, the winding alleys and streets of Deepwater City didn’t provide much opportunity for large-scale battles. Not to mention within the gangs, probably only a few high-level members could barely be considered professionals, while dozens of the undead tribe could clear out one entire gang district’s thugs.

The battles in Deepwater City have always been very smooth, so Hill had not realized that the undead tribe was now in a state where they could be burned to death by their own fireballs!

Hill couldn’t help but suck in a breath of cold air, staring wide-eyed at the unfortunate guy who got a chain fireball nailed directly to the back of his head... Fortunately, he was pulled back by a priest from the brink of death.

”Who the hell is so accurate? Are your sights leveled at my head? Ah! No, your aiming isn’t even worth being called a decoration! Even a blind person is stronger than you!” yelled the knight who turned back to curse... the magic sword... Hill’s expression returned to normal. As someone famous for his bad luck under the Black Rose, whatever happens to this guy is ordinary.

Many priests of the Black Rose would cast a lingering spell upon seeing him, after all, if only one in a row of people were attacked, it was basically always him.

No one knows why, but the magic sword just attracts hatred, not only in gang battles but even when fighting beasts, he always gets hit the most.

He’s a very suitable tank.

The knights standing beside him... their hands holding shields were trembling, clearly trying to suppress their laughter.

Hill had once heard the ’Old Age Striking King’ say that if a mage or priest’s movements were not agile enough, it would be best to stay behind the magic sword, as the monsters wouldn’t switch targets before smashing him to death.

Magic Sword never thought of it as a problem before, always calling himself the perfect defensive knight.

But now he probably wouldn’t think so... with such accurate chain fireballs...

It seems the clumsy faction of the Black Rose has indeed been standing right behind him all along... They’re probably used to it, meaning Magic Sword’s bad luck comes in double portions?

Hill turned to see Lynn looking dumbfounded, and gave him a brief explanation, but Lynn still looked incredulous. As an elf by birth, he had never had the concept of missing a shot since childhood.

Dynamic vision allows elves to shoot arrows without needing to aim carefully, and Hill is actually about the same, he basically just raises his hand to attack. Eye-hand coordination is not just a figure of speech.

Moreover, here in Toril, if you didn’t have even the most basic qualities of the profession, you’d be long gone, let alone advancing your professional level so high.

Hill could only smile, and then once again sighed at Laila’s adaptability, truly formidable indeed!

No big fuss over the undead tribe’s odd quirks, but calmly took over the command work.

Laila on the gigantic projection was happily commanding the undead tribe to destroy the tower: she used her magic missiles as a baton, directing the magic-based professionals of the undead tribe to attack the tower’s nodes.

The Arcane Brotherhood’s crushing defeat was imminent, just waiting to see if they chose to resist to the end or use some random strange objects to escape at the moment the magic tower collapsed.

Resisting to the end was surely a path to death, as the Teraxil Elves’ thoroughly eradication of evil customs is well known among people of the Northern Continent.

And using space-type teleportation strange objects doesn’t guarantee much better endpoints either.

Now in Toril, even those teleportation strange objects originally bound to fixed locations can only rely on random fate.

Dark mages who play with souls are mostly loathed by nature, very few have good luck.

So even when seeing those scattered gray lights as the magic tower collapsed, Laila didn’t intercept them.

If she used spells too high-level, it could easily cause problems.

She was well aware that these people’s outcome wouldn’t be any good, not worth the risk of instability in local space, Toril’s random teleportation... it’s a better fate ending up near a dragon’s den.

Most importantly, while observing around with a bit of bewilderment, Laila noticed the undead tribe held no conviction to pursue relentlessly to the death... Although they tried to hurl some spells and shoot some arrows, such futile probing seemed casual, lacking in counteraction competency.

She thought these Teraxil would use spatial magic to trap these people directly!

Don’t they have some spatial sorcerers? Awakening such spell-like abilities, the mages in the Black Tower would envy so much!

Having a bit of spatial control ability, at least now in Toril, is very practical. Mages... especially some academic mages, need a reliable way to flee for their life.

This is the first time the Dimensional Gate has fallen from its altar... Laila herself isn’t quite used to it.

Laila certainly couldn’t understand it; the reason the Undead Tribe had no such interception idea was because they hadn’t thought of doing it this way.

Primarily, they had long been accustomed to the result where the BOSS suddenly escaped at the end of a fight... all were killed, would they create new BOSSs in the future?

The habit of game companies is never to end evil entirely, although they certainly wish to kill all enemies directly, but running enemies have become normal to them.

So when seeing those turning into light and fleeing, the Undead Tribe didn’t even bother to chase.

The failure of the Arcane Brotherhood signifies the conclusion of the Battle of Luskan.

These Dark Mages had no apprentices at all, and Laila had said that the things of Dark Mages are filthy, unsuitable for ordinary people to use.

To the Undead Tribe, this meant anything picked up could only sell for some change, which even stores might not accept... they thought Archmage Hill wouldn’t take trash, as that Little Bear has always preferred good things.

Thus, before the Black Rose started to clean up this broken tower, the Priests lit the Holy Fire.

The seemingly empty Magic Tower suddenly rang with terrible screams: those were the screams of souls made into fuel for the Magic Tower over a thousand years, they were left with only resentment, and this resentment became the means of defense for the Dark Mages.

The reason this Dark Magic Tower has no apprentice is precisely because of these vengeful souls, without strength, one might be swallowed at any moment.

Laila listened to those painful sounds with a bleak expression, only hoping that after being tempered by the Holy Fire, these poor souls could return to the Styx.

As the most lively and active among the Northern Seven Sisters, Laila actually had the greatest curiosity and compassion, which is precisely why she ended up needing Kelben to save her.

Laila’s education since childhood and political thinking under Kelben’s influence allowed her to understand why the North wouldn’t save Luskan and nearby Mirabar Dwarves.

But... witnessing firsthand what sins the unchecked Arcane Brotherhood committed over the centuries filled her with uneasiness and guilt.

Laila gently closed her eyes, tightly gripping her Magic Wand, then suddenly opened her eyes: it was for these tragic mortals that she, Laila, was willing to pledge allegiance to Lord Archmage Hill of Agleya City.

No matter the reason he allowed Teraxil Elves to occupy Luskan, at least... he did something the North should have done long ago.

Laila looked back and realized that her place was the last end of this war, elsewhere had already begun organizing the battlefield.

Actually, Luskan still has some Neutral Faction presence; as long as they didn’t resist, these people were sent by the Undead Tribe to a roadside empty land, mostly treated like slaves, the Mirabar Dwarves.

However, Laila suppressed the corners of her mouth, the Red Dragon Trade Station, that North’s association specializing in underground business, was also cleaned by the Teraxil Elves as Luskan’s enemies.

She turned her head back towards the Magic Tower, restraining her impulse to continue looking at that side lest merchants notice her and ask her to plead.

Even though Elaströ and Kelben had told her that underground trades, mainly based on human trafficking, can never be completely eradicated, they can only control these people’s hands from reaching their own territories.

Still, Laila strongly despised these guys, wishing they would all perish...

However, the Ferun Great Land... like her sister once said, it is a society filled with compromise and balance.

Even deities can’t demand everyone to be good; they can only request their believers to do so.

The first time Laila understood this truth, she almost lost faith in the deities, that was when Mystra saved her, despite the flaws that lady had, she still was a truly respectable True God.

Laila’s gaze faintly dimmed; alas, too overconfident in her own indispensability.

She gently stomped her foot, invigorating her spirit, at least now... she, Laila, accomplished it, although she was just a supporter, at least she contributed her part.

These outsider Teraxil Elves fear nothing, seeking nothing from this world, thus they can act entirely according to their own thoughts.

Laila, through this period of contact, had realized that Teraxil Elves sought fun, not money or power...

No, that’s not it, they have another set of calculation methods for gain and loss, she simply couldn’t understand it.

Just like those merchants... they can’t use the money in their pockets to open the joints of the Teraxil Elves... no amount of money works, Teraxil Elves only look at their Faction.

Laila’s smile showed a trace of joy, the glow of Detect Evil, a Paladin of Tyr probably hadn’t seen so many.

She willingly joined these interesting Teraxil Elves, aiming to build a brand-new Luskan City, allowing this city to once again become that famous Northern trade hub, and truly transform back into the City of a Thousand Sails.
