Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 884: Chapter 680: The Dogblood Chaos Battle of Silvermoon City

Hill happily opened the folder, knowing that Lynn would surely make the people of Deepwater City return satisfied.

Kelben’s nephew, although considered shrewd and capable, was still far inferior to Lynn in the art of social interactions.

Hill was genuinely interested in Lynn’s bard teacher, curious about how he managed to train Lynn to completely suppress his chaotic personality inherited from the Gold Elves.

Initially, Hill thought it was because one of Lynn’s parents was more rational, but after some interaction, he realized that was not the case at all. Lynn’s father was indeed very capable, but his way of doing things was full of the sensitivity of an artist.

Lynn’s manner of handling things... rather than resembling a bard, it was more like a Holy Knight who was strict with himself, disciplined, and adhered to decorum.

Hill shook his head, dispelling some of his guesses about Lynn from his mind, and began to look at the materials on Silvermoon City... What’s this?

Hill silently read line by line above, even though Lynn had tried hard to conceal it, the schadenfreude of a certain Poet Academy’s senior professor still jumped off the page:

This was a big chaos caused by a scandal at the Mage Academy.

It escalated from an internal feud among descendants in Elaströ’s Silver Palace to a power struggle between the current Lord of Silvermoon City, Turner, Elaströ’s loyal Magic Guard, and the descendants of Elaströ.

There was a name here, very familiar to Hill, someone he had seen at an auction—Paul Telin Xinen Haihe, the dean of the Enchantment Academy of the University Town, Turner’s loyal minion.

Turner had followed Elaströ for over a thousand years; they were very good friends, and even though both mages were governing in the Supreme Palace—Turner ruling Silvermoon City while Elaströ ruled the entire Silver Alliance, they never had any disputes.

But that was not the case with their subordinates.

Silvermoon City’s military power had long fallen into the hands of Elaströ’s sons. In particular, after Turner became governor, he even gave his position as Captain of the Magic Guard to one of Elaströ’s Half-Elf sons.

The stationed Silvermoon Alliance Army was already controlled by Elaströ’s most powerful Half-Elf son.

Turner’s subordinates had no means either; they truly couldn’t compete in martial power against these twelve Half-Elves who inherited the Gold Elven Bloodline.

You must know, if it weren’t for the unfortunate encounter with the Dawn Calamity, Elaströ’s beloved Gold Elf Lord from a thousand years ago would certainly have become the Emperor of the Elf Empire.

Considering that a romantic and amorous person like Elaströ was willing to bear twelve sons for him, this indicates just how powerful he was.

Unable to compete in martial strength, they could only choose to have clandestine political skirmishes, especially since the two rulers wouldn’t turn against each other. Turner... he has been a steadfast admirer for a thousand years, completely obedient to Elaströ.

Turner’s subordinates didn’t dare to aim too high, but they thought at least intermediate-level positions should be their turn, right?

They had followed Turner for so many years and put in so much effort; they couldn’t walk away with nothing.

However, they still had to compete against Elaströ’s children with human bloodlines, and for the more desirable positions, Turner always had them yield.

Indeed, Turner did give many key positions to his subordinates, but why should all the benefits of their hard work go to those useless fellows?

Just because those fools carry Elaströ’s blood?

Silvermoon City was actually very wealthy, but when a dean of the Enchantment Academy had to personally step in and try every possible way to get some benefits from guests, it’s clear that this wealth was somewhat out of their reach.

So, with the boss not being helpful, Turner’s subordinates decided to find ways to secure it themselves.

Xinen Haihe was a very beautiful Archmage, capable and gentle, although Hill thought she was a bit of a seductress, many men didn’t see it as a problem at all.

What’s wrong with a temptress? As long as the gentleness is directed at them, it’s an enjoyment.

So even though the head of Silvermoon City Auction House already had a lovely wife and young daughter, he was still drawn into her embrace, completely forgetting that his ascent to this position was due to marrying Sharol Scarlsen, a Female Mage daughter of Elaströ.

This Scarlsen’s father wasn’t one of Elaströ’s male pets, but an excellent merchant and politician, who also became the mayor of Silvermoon City back in the day.

Unfortunately, luck didn’t favor him, encountering a usurper and a foolish Archmage, although fortunately, Elaströ ultimately achieved victory.

Though Scarlsen was no longer the mayor of Silvermoon City, he was grateful to Elaströ for saving the city, thus making significant contributions to its commercial development, and simultaneously earning himself a decent fortune.

Elaströ’s reward to him was... giving birth to a daughter.

Clearly, a significant part of Scarlsen’s commercial empire would belong to the daughter, Sharol, whom Elaströ bore for him.

Unfortunately, Sharol had only the talents of a Mage and no commercial acumen, so she chose a husband with a business mind for herself.

However, it was obvious that the proud missy couldn’t compare to the gentle and considerate Archmage.

Even though Sharol’s husband never thought of leaving the missy, it didn’t stop him from giving everything he had to his lover.

Hill surmised that Xinen Haihe also didn’t intend to snatch the man; the field of enchantment was very costly, especially when trying to advance to a High-level; the cost of materials was truly too high.

To advance from level 14 to level 16, for her, the money required is astronomical, unless she slowly bides her time.

Although Turner gave her the position of head of the Enchantment Academy, what can a dead-end salary do? How much mithril can she buy after a year of teaching? Not to mention mithril itself!

So she just found a convenient cash machine for herself.

She’s not stupid; she surely understands that once the cash machine leaves Scarlsen, it would probably just be a machine, with no cash to withdraw it for.

Therefore, as long as she can deceive Sharol, everyone can live happily, regrettably though, Sharol was too proud and offended her half-sister in the Silver Palace.

Many things are only kept secret from those involved, outsiders actually have some clues, Xinen Haihe and her lover simply couldn’t withstand investigation.

Sharol’s sister exposed the matter in public, leaving this female mage no face at all.

Irritated to the extreme, Sharol nearly burned her foolish husband to death, and after completely kicking him out of Scarlsen territory, she started dealing with Xinen Haihe.

But in Toril, this kind of affair hardly counts as an unrecoverable scandal. Xinen Haihe’s conduct, though shameless, cannot in any place lead to dealing with a level 14 Enchantment Master over such a trivial matter.

Sharol... in order to deal with Xinen Haihe, employed rather aggressive tactics, varied in approach, not to mention loved indirect attacks, the archmage hasn’t crumbled yet, but Turner’s other subordinates couldn’t take it.

Most importantly, Sharol employed an economic and resource blockade on the University Town to force Xinen Haihe out of her role as head of the Enchantment Academy.

Originally not intending to get involved in these matters, other academy heads had no choice but to turn against the Scarlsen Family.

As long as Xinen Haihe doesn’t voluntarily resign, archmages couldn’t possibly betray their colleagues for those resources. Although University Town thrives due to Elaströ, it doesn’t belong to her family.

Mages respect the Supreme Lady, but that doesn’t mean even an ordinary mage’s daughter can intimidate them into doing anything.

The scale of the chaos is also related to this young lady’s siblings who muddied the waters, taking plenty of benefits for themselves while Sharol overturned the table.

Turner’s subordinates, already merely enduring, couldn’t bear it any longer, and both sides started direct confrontation.

By the time Turner and Elaströ realized something was wrong and directly intervened to stop the confrontation, most officials of Silvermoon City had been pulled into the mess.

Fortunately, Elaströ’s half-elf son always disliked interacting with relatives from the human side, otherwise, if the army joined in, Elaströ would have been furious.

This incident, speaking of the magnitude, isn’t huge, but it is no small matter, Silvermoon City’s internal conflict has already shown itself to everyone!

Elaströ could only intervene personally to adjudicate the matter.

She has always been fair, Xinen Haihe’s position was preserved, since affairs have never been considered a crime in Toril.

However, this Enchantment Master might be poorer in the future, who would dare attend her classes or purchase strange objects she crafted?

Luckily, Turner, though loyal to Elaströ, wouldn’t utterly abandon protecting his subordinates, Xinen Haihe would only have a tougher life, not one she couldn’t live.

Naturally, those bearing responsibility for this incident were Sharol and her ex-husband.

Her ex-husband was expelled from all territories of the Silvermoon Alliance for rare charges in Toril like embezzlement and corruption.

Sharol was subjected to a 100-year ban on returning to Silvermoon City.

The wealthy and extravagant Lady Scarlsen took her daughter, and sailing on a magic ship, headed to Deepwater City, intending to stay on another continent for a while.

Then she encountered this spatial storm.

Hill blinked, trying to assess the truth behind this matter... Why does he feel that this melodramatic court drama seems deliberately fabricated?

With Elaströ’s control over Silvermoon City, how could she only discover such a serious matter after it escalated?

If such an event truly happened in Silvermoon City, yet the Supreme Lady hadn’t realized it... where had Elaströ been during the tumultuous times of Ferun Great Land?

Those who stirred this matter, was it internal strife among Elaströ’s children, or was it some enemies probing the Supreme Lady’s whereabouts?

Hill absolutely doesn’t believe...

Even if Sharol was truly foolish, others around wouldn’t be involved for such a simple reason.

He tapped the document in hand; either this Poet Academy councilman was just a nominal title, or his friendship with Lynn warranted a question mark.

In the world of Toril, behind all seemingly melodramatic events, lie the shadows of conspirators.
