Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 880: Chapter 676: Hill Finally Discovers Trouble

Lynn suddenly knocked on his own forehead.

He laughed under Hill’s surprised gaze and said, ”In the future, when I encounter such perplexing matters, I’ll come to you first.

I’ve discovered that I’m always bewildered by past experiences, and I can’t make decisions as decisively as you do.

This time too, if I had asked you earlier, I wouldn’t have spent several days in turmoil. I might have been able to send them off sooner and remove those unstable factors from the inn.”

Hill took a long time to understand Lynn’s meaning and said confusedly, ”Lynn, no matter what, my esteem for you can’t be influenced by Agleya’s followers, right? No matter how devout they are, what does that have to do with me?

Even if all of them died right under my nose, Agleya wouldn’t feel a thing.

Moreover, even if Agleya City were to be troubled out of existence, it wouldn’t matter, since it can always be rebuilt later!

There’s no need for you to worry about such trivial issues.”

Lynn chuckled and shook his head, ”I certainly don’t want Agleya City to disappear. I know I have your trust; it’s myself that I’m not willing to trust too much.

Hill, you know the past of the Moonflower family... The first elves they accepted were initially sincerely grateful, yet the world changed as soon as the Moon Elf Royal Family declined for merely two generations due to that Elf Devourer’s invasion.

No one knows if future me will still be current me, so it’s better to bind my own hands and feet now.

No opportunity, no betrayal. Human nature cannot withstand tests.

Also, Hill, I’ll eventually have my own wife and children. What if they become greedy due to my excessive power?

Just like Eternity Island...”

Why does the shadow of the Moonflower Royalty weigh so heavily on Lynn?

What a disgusting array of events he must have encountered in his childhood to be so persistently concerned.

Hill glanced at his friend with a touch of helplessness. He really didn’t understand why Lynn’s nature would be so noble. No wonder Miliel is so fond of him.

Actually, Hill also really likes Lynn as Miliel does.

Surrounded by Natural Consciousness all year round, he is sensitive and vigilant. Only those with a genuinely pure nature, who at most tell the occasional white lie, can successfully get close to him.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t be so tolerant of the Little Fairies. When surrounded by them, there’s none of the malice-enveloped feeling.

The Undead Tribe... their lies would only outnumber even those of the Little Fairies.

But the places where these two kinds of people are present are already quite decent for Hill, just preferably not somewhere to stay often.

As for most people in Toril... even though Hill is quite tolerant and gentle, he doesn’t like to interact with them much.

Having been in this world for a few years, Hill has met many people with rich life experiences and sophisticated skills, but only Lynn earned Hill’s complete trust.

Although initially, Lynn treated Hill as a fellow youngster of the same race, he was truly sincere and friendly, making things feel like a refreshing spring breeze, and crucially, he never lied to Hill.

Though it seems a modest demand, Hill rarely encounters it.

He smiled warmly at Lynn and said, ”But I believe in Lynn.”

Lynn shook his head. To help Hill understand how easily hearts can change and how time ages us, the typically tight-lipped Singer unhesitatingly shared lots of cunning and malicious stories of the Elf Nobility and politicians with Hill.

He even revealed the means by which the current Supreme Commander of the Silvermoon Alliance, Macerama Alasserme, achieved his current status.

This Half-Elf warrior had a good relationship with Lynn in the past. After all, they both shared the blood of Gold Elves, and when Hill first went to Silvermoon City, Lynn even mentioned Hill could approach Macerama if need be!

But later, Lynn stopped mentioning him and even specifically advised Hill not to seek him at the Guard’s headquarters.

No wonder... Macerama could be the most trusted among Elaströ’s 12 Half-Elf sons of the Alasserme name, by their illustrious mother.

His brothers indeed couldn’t match his resolve... Nurturing newcomers for their mother Elaströ’s male pet guard is something most couldn’t do.

Hill truly didn’t expect that seemingly simple Lynn had so many private stories stored away! Although he rattled them out to make Hill more cautious and skeptical of others, including himself.

Nonetheless, Hill almost couldn’t hold back his laughter. He finally voiced his true thoughts: ”But Lynn, given your pickiness, can you find a partner?

As for children... why should I concern myself with factors that don’t exist?”

The love Lynn yearned for was like his parents’, and given his sensitive and pure disposition, it was almost impossible to find a kindred long-life partner in Toril.

The love of his parents was nearly a legendary tale among the elves.

Lynn wasn’t an inexperienced boy without any love stories, but his pursuit of love always ended in failure. Even back when he was a sheriff in that small town, there were tales of him attempting and failing to woo a beautiful Half-Elf ranger.

The main issue was that she sought a passionate romantic fling, whereas Lynn was already planning where to settle down and how many children to have, frightening the beautiful ranger off that very day.

From that point on, Lynn earned a quirky reputation, and Half-Elf and Elf girls started avoiding him.

Life is so long that love will eventually fade away with time. The long-lived all think Lynn’s idea of eternal companionship is too much of a metamorphosis.

Lynn’s face darkened, he knew Hill must have heard those rumors from Quel’var Town.

”My demands are not high!” he said firmly, ”Although I dare not expect eternal love, at least... at least after having children, both parents should still have feelings for each other before the children grow up, right?

What is love that can’t even last 100 years?”

Hill propped his chin with his hand, looking at this idealist in front of him, unsure if he should wish his friend to get what he wanted.

He shook his head, letting go of the topic, Hill didn’t think this expectation was necessarily a blessing, so it was better not to mention it again.

He shifted his gaze to the refugees who were ready to leave.

Some nobles seem to have bought those Alchemy Carriages from Hill’s Magic Curiosity Shop, and were hitching horses and cows they bought from Agleya Citizens to them.

When Hill turned back without caring, the corner of his eye caught a glimpse of a somewhat strange woman.

He stood up and went to the terrace.

”Hill?” Lynn followed him out, ”What’s wrong?”

”Lynn, do you see that woman in purple over there?” Hill asked softly, ”Why do I feel she looks a bit familiar?”

Lynn craned his neck, trying hard to observe the lady in purple squatting by the carriage, braiding her daughter’s long hair.

”She looks a bit like... Elaströ... but younger. Over here in Deepwater City, there’s only one Silver Hand...” he concluded, ”But Laila and Elaströ don’t look alike at all! Besides, she doesn’t have silver hair.”

Hill was silent for a while before asking, ”What about Elaströ’s daughter?”

”Who knows...” Lynn blurted out, ”No one can keep count, okay?”

”Why did you notice her?” Lynn shifted the topic, the number of children Lady Elaströ has is already a well-known mystery in The North, no one has counted them all.

Hill is not the type to pay attention to women.

”There was something about them that felt very strange to me...” Hill said with a frown, ”When I looked over, it felt like something instantly drew my attention to that mother and daughter.”

”Mother and daughter?” Lynn muttered, looking again a few times, but felt nothing and could only see that they were both beauties.

”Should we detain them?” he said simply, ”It’s not too much trouble.”

”No...” Hill said distantly, ”Lynn, remember their faces, no matter what happens in the future, Agleya City will not accept them.”

Lynn gave Hill an odd look, nodded confusedly, ”Of course, no problem, these kinds of nobles are more suited for places like Deepwater City.”

Of course, not just fitting for Deepwater City, but even more fitting for the Black Staff Tower! Hill thought viciously.

How could he forget, the resurrection legend of Midnight was advanced by so many years, she can’t appear on the body of some girl with the Mystra bloodline dying in a cave!

It’s infuriating!

Can’t the Tablets of Fate spare him?

Hill looked at the mother and daughter who seemed to live under the spotlight, finally realizing what the mark on them was.

It was the power of Law, the light of a deity’s fall.

The former Mystra... once had a child with Elaströ’s son!

AO is really cruel! Midnight’s greatest hatred was being forced to become Mystra’s successor, and now even her body belongs to others’ descendants.

After her consciousness is restored, there’s no way she’ll accept this quietly!

Deepwater City... better for it to be destroyed by pirates, at least there’s a chance for revival.

Now, it’s become the epic stage for the Goddess of Magic’s return to the Divine Throne, Hill didn’t even know what this city would become.

Fearing the world hasn’t recovered, and the All Gods will gather in this City of Radiance?

Hopefully, Kelben won’t waste all those years of effort, and keep that lady locked in the Black Tower, never let her out to cause trouble!

Lynn seemed to get a feeling, after all, he’s dealt with deities for many years: ”Hill! Could this be... that little girl?”

”Hmm! The taste of the Law, I felt it.” Hill said lightly, ”We’re a bit close to Deepwater City, if something happens, we’ll easily get dragged in.

Anyway, we don’t have a good relationship with Kelben, so we have plenty of reasons to not get involved.

No matter what happens at Deepwater City, even if the sky falls down, don’t concern yourself.”

Lynn nodded solemnly.
