Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 878: Chapter 674: Missing Lynn of the Undead Tribe

Hill indulged himself in spell research, only stopping when the lake water was nearly full, releasing many live fish into the waterway of the cave. He wasn’t sure if the fish from the pendant could adapt to the changes outside, so he decided to release more of them.

Surely they were just ordinary cold-water fish, after all, Murderous Vine couldn’t survive without blood food.

The silverfish Hill received from Lynn’s dad had grown up but showed no signs of breeding. Hill reckoned the pendant’s environment was still unsuitable.

When the half-plane is fully developed, he could completely replicate the small creek in Alessio’s orchard. Right now, the pendant didn’t have such a big space.

The idea sounded pretty, but in reality, he just wanted to make his own carillon, preferably combining it with a harp. Lately, he had been calculating whether he could turn the harp’s pillar into a carillon-like lock picker.

Hill found the thought very amusing. Normally it’s a tool for singing ballads, but when needed, with the flick of a switch, and plucking the strings, it could easily open all boxes and all doors.

Oh~ what homebody hasn’t fantasized about being a dashing Bond!

The more useless yet cool something is in reality, the greater the allure it holds for a homebody. Anyway, the official magic experiments wouldn’t start for at least another month, so Hill wholeheartedly threw himself into the resonance between scales.

Once again, the homebody Mage Lord fell into an inexplicable experimental enthusiasm, leaving the poor Municipal Officer Lynn to handle the chaotic territory.

Even though those two dragons assured him the threat brought by the giant dragon had retreated, Lynn still cautiously patrolled the territory with his men every day.

Fortunately, the dwarves and gnomes from University Town had dived into the dragon skin workshop, and even the reluctant mages tagged along to get busy.

Everyone knew the benefits of dragon skin products, but not everyone had encountered real giant dragon skin. Most of the cherished dragon skin gloves of mages were actually made from wyrms or dragon-blooded animals.

With city safety needing no help, and these instability factors having their own tasks, Lynn was quite satisfied.

Lately, his bigger problem was with those followers that the Goddess Agleya had saved.

Even though most of them were poor sailors and fishermen, there were still some minor nobles with a bit of money and higher-level professionals among them.

Even if they belonged to a kind alignment, it didn’t mean they were content with a mundane life. Looking at the flourishing Agleya City, and then at their wooden thatched huts, any capable person would not be content.

So once they confirmed their safety, these people started planning for their future status.

Lynn had received numerous letters from them recently, ostensibly fighting for the future rights of the refugees, but really each hoping for a chance to enter the ranks of municipal officers.

Lynn was somewhat hesitant about this.

Toril people didn’t see anything wrong with striving for their future; in this chaotic world, taking a slight step back might mean downfall. Lynn himself had started with self-recommendation, so he didn’t dislike these practices.

But he didn’t know if he could trust these people.

The Agleya Temple was surprisingly indifferent to its followers, with no intention of accepting any priests or even priests, while on the Toril side, it was customary to have the church guarantee when hiring officials.

Generally, officials in the territory, aside from the lord’s relatives and friends, mostly came from the lord’s own faith, or from temples he agreed with, coupled with recommendations from well-connected nobles.

If it weren’t for Miliel... Lynn could never have become the Sheriff of Quel’var Town.

This was actually the basis for most lords to maintain control over their territories, but from what Lynn knew of Hill, Hill was completely uninterested in these, and he didn’t want a group of sycophants around him.

Hill preferred using puppets over servants.

Over at Teraxil, it seemed they had their own set of methods for cultivating officials, focusing more on the abilities of the officials themselves, where deities only had monitoring rights to some extent.

It sounded wonderful, but it wasn’t suitable for Toril.

Lynn didn’t believe that Deities could now completely withdraw their hands from Toril. To them, there was no need to waste so much divine power and time.

They preferred to wait for the repair of the Weave, even if it left their priests and priests at a loss.

Church was indeed very important to the deities, but not indispensable.

Lynn walked down the long hallway of the Town Hall, glancing at the floating castle suspended in mid-air: If the Origin Power were truly damaged to the extent that even deities were helpless, the floating castle should have fallen long ago.

Hill’s attitude was quite clear: as long as Agleya City managed its own matters, there was no need to do anything extra.

Lynn shook his head; only when faced with matters related to all gods did he become this cautious. So, is the future time the resurrection of the Goddess of Magic from epic stories?

He slowly made up his mind. The faith of the Toril people, even if devout now, didn’t guarantee they would be in the future, and it held no reference value at all.

If the Agleya Temple has ideas about intervening in city management, then Lynn has no problem giving up part of it. He is not a person with strong control desires, but since Hill, his daughter, has no intention of managing these believers, he also sees no need to do anything unnecessary.

Let the refugees slowly build their own village!

As deities, saving them in times of peril is already commendable. If anyone remains dissatisfied and wants more, given the usual character of the Teraxil Divinity, they would probably just abandon such greedy believers.

The deities of that world seemingly dislike beliefs mixed with other desires. If the believers’ reverence is not pure enough, they simply won’t accept it.

Lynn feels somewhat incredulous. If he has the chance, he hopes to visit Teraxil and see the local customs; it must be very interesting.

He quickly found several City Guards and asked them to relay a message to the refugees:

In the past, the Neverwinter Forest, the area around Agleya, was not suitable for intervention, but now, with the mountain range lying between the two cities, there’s no need to back down anymore. Let him see if these capable people can turn that small village into a new town.

Agleya can offer them enough security and low-cost basic materials, and permits to gather various resources within the territory.

Most importantly, until the refugee village becomes a recognized town, Agleya will not collect taxes from them.

If with such a good environment, these self-important people cannot keep the civilians in the village and are absorbed by Neverwinter City and Deepwater City, then Lynn can’t be blamed for not giving them a chance.

Lynn quietly leaned against his desk, pondering when the Undead Tribe might appear again?

Will it be necessary to wait for all gods to begin returning to Toril?

If so, some basic construction work will need to be hired out.

Although the hiring costs of the Undead Tribe are relatively high, they work fast! What would take 1,000 ordinary people three years to build, these undead can finish in a few days.

It seems like the upfront cost is high, but it’s not much more than three years’ expenses, and the houses can be occupied three years earlier. Anyone with a bit of calculation knows whom to choose.

Lynn picked up his work manual and recalculated future project volumes with Marsha, unable to help sighing: The greening project should be postponed for now. The Druids always want to use Divine Arts on the plants, which is too risky.

The most important task now is to open up some farmland to the east near the lake, and dig a canal.

The refugees are short of money, so they will do it.

While no one can compete with Agleya City for territory, it’s best to claim it, at worst just sow some seeds and call it a field.

The rest can be reorganized after the Undead Tribe arrives.

Fortunately, judging by Hill’s attitude, the Undead Tribe will still come.

Lynn suddenly remembered, where did that divine artifact closely associated with the Undead Tribe go?

Of course, it’s with Hill.

After discovering Toril’s connection with the outside world was completely severed, Hill quickly brought it to the Floating Castle, placing it in a room filled with Space Crystals.

This rhombus-shaped crystal should just be a part of the divine artifact from the God of Time and Space, so even after absorbing enough energy to restore itself, its reaction remains somewhat slow.

The lack of connection with Teraxil makes this divine artifact a bit anxious, continuously sensing Toril’s spatial stability lately and frantically calculating how long before it can connect with the Main God Artifact.

Luckily, as the artifact of the super-rich God of Time and Space, it is not short of Crystals, not only doubling the Crystal Stones Hill spent to rescue it, but also simply threw out a room full of Crystals from its storage space to prevent itself from losing power again.

The divine function of time and space...is not only powerful but also very wealthy, even Hill is a bit envious.

He can only choose to tightly seal the room, not allowing any energy to escape...otherwise, Hill really doesn’t know if Terry and Tasding, passing by, can control their desires.

During this time, both dragons chose to reside in the Floating Castle. Although Hill is very powerful, they still want to contribute some effort for him.

Tasding seems intent on using his speed to take Hill away when he encounters an unbeatable enemy, while Terry decides to cover the retreat.

No dragon would blatantly kill Terry...his mother is a Golden Dragon and his father a Silver Dragon, both from very prominent and flourishing clans. The Silver Dragon family can even be linked to Bahamut.

With so many powerful dragons, only this pair can rule like a Queen and King’s Consort, never worrying about any Dragon Slayer, clearly for a reason.

Although Hill does not worry about his own safety, he is very pleased to know about these two dragons’ private arrangements.

Sincere friends, each one is most precious.
