Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 1437: Chapter 745: She Has Never Failed (10,000 Words!) (Part 2)

”He Xuran...” He Wenyun smiled, curling her lips, ”I know why he’s having second thoughts at the last minute.”

”Hmm?” Wu Chengbao immediately looked up at He Wenyun.

He Wenyun said, ”Earlier, the director of ’Mechanical Battle’, Blais Wesley, asked me if I knew He Xuran. He has a film starting production next month with a rather important role for He Xuran, so he came to ask me about his situation.”

”Oh, so that’s how it is. I was wondering.” Wu Chengbao chuckled lightly.

”If you ask me, he made the wrong decision.” He Wenyun shook her head with a smile. ”It seems that many actors in China highly value the opportunity to shoot some international films. They seem to think that this will take their career to the next level. I don’t know if that’s true, but having been abroad myself, I know it’s not that simple. There are actually very few opportunities, or good roles left for Asians abroad. Given their cultural background, they’d rather give a good role to a black actor than to you. So if it’s just an ordinary role, you might as well stay domestic and work on some good local productions.”

”Then why did you go abroad back then?” Wu Chengbao asked.

He Wenyun smiled and said, ”That was because I got a very good opportunity: a film directed by Spielberg. At the time, that might have been the best opportunity of my life. My point is, Blais Wesley and Spielberg are not the same, right?”

Wu Chengbao nodded, acknowledging, ”That’s right. Spielberg is a world-class director. Who could refuse to work with him?”

”Mm.” He Wenyun nodded. ”So after finishing ’Mechanical Battle’, I had to come back. Even though many people in Hollywood told me that once these two films were released, I could definitely get even better opportunities, I still had to come back, sign with an agency, and even shoot ’Deep Sea’ with Xiao Yun. People in Hollywood are too snobbish. If you’re very popular domestically, very popular in Asia, OK, they’ll look at you differently. But if you’re an actor who hasn’t achieved much in your own country, they’ll only look down on you more, thinking you’re cheap.”

”You should really tell those actors who have their minds set on going abroad.”

”I can’t do that, otherwise I’ll become a target of public criticism?” He Wenyun said, ”Wouldn’t it be more appropriate for Zhou Yun to tell them?”

”Xiao Yun has been rather lucky and hasn’t encountered much cold treatment abroad,” Wu Chengbao said. ”She’s had better luck in the film industry than many people.”

”I thought you were going to say she has more talent than many people.”

”That’s also true,” Wu Chengbao said. ”Aren’t you the same?”

He Wenyun remained silent for a moment.

During that moment of silence, no one knew what she was thinking about.

Only then did Wei Weicheng, who had been listening to them, speak up, saying, ”Making films is a matter of luck, really. For those of us who can hold the initiative in our hands now, who hasn’t relied on luck? Actually, whether it’s luck or not, it doesn’t count for much. President Wu, I know my previous attitude made you very upset and angry, but you also know very well that if you don’t have better options, you can only adapt to my temperament because I have the capital to do so. In fact, creating a work is inherently a very personal matter, but film is different. Its investment is too large, involving too many creators. If you want it to turn out the way you imagined it in the end, you can only act like a tyrant in the eyes of others.”

Wu Chengbao looked at Wei Weicheng in surprise.

He hadn’t expected Wei Weicheng to suddenly bring up past matters.

Of course, he didn’t deny that Wei Weicheng was right.

He even thought what Wei Weicheng said made a lot of sense.

However, Wu Chengbao didn’t care about what he said.

Wu Chengbao was very clear about his own position.

He was just a businessman in a film company; he was doing business.

If he needed to understand the art of the film industry, it was for the purpose of making more money.

He positioned himself as such because, in the company, Song Chi was responsible for the artistic part.
