Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 1045: Chapter 606: On-the-Spot Revision_3

Zhou Yun habitually enters her role before the official shoot, simulating how she will act in her mind.

At this moment, Kang Xin suddenly comes over.

He claps his hands, interrupting Zhou Yun’s preparation, and asks, ”What are you pondering?”

Zhou Yun opens her eyes and calls out to the director.

Kang Xin pulls over a chair directly, and sits down in front of Zhou Yun and Jiang Yuzhen.

”Yuzhen, Xiao Yun, let me chat with you two a bit more.”

Zhou Yun and Jiang Yuzhen immediately focus all their attention on Kang Xin, waiting for him to speak.

Kang Xin says, ”Here’s the thing, both of you are excellent actors, and the scene we’re about to shoot is one of your specialties. You’re both very adept at performing opposite roles and scenes with great emotional tension, but I hope you don’t act too conventionally. If you perform according to your usual method, it wouldn’t be wrong, but it would be too dull. Let’s try something different.”

Zhou Yun is suddenly taken aback, not quite understanding Director Kang Xin’s idea.

During previous rehearsals, Director Kang Xin never said this. Why did he suddenly want them to change their acting method on the day of the formal shoot?

An impromptu change?

Sure enough, Jiang Yuzhen wrinkles her brow and asks, ”Director, how should we perform then?”

Kang Xin says, ”To act differently means to discard all the designs you’ve just made for this scene.”

Jiang Yuzhen: ”Huh?”

Kang Xin says, ”Later, we’re filming your argument scene, right? Xiao Yun, you’re severely ill and sitting in bed, Yuzhen, you’re in a foul mood because you lost money at the card table, and you take it out on your daughter. This scene is entirely built on the confrontation between mother and daughter, but it’s so realistic. It’s a common quarrel between a mother and daughter with a bad relationship, right? Take any similar scene, and it’s performed like this, isn’t it?”

Jiang Yuzhen remains silent.

But, in reality, this is tacit approval.

”As I was pondering, I thought there’s room for further exploration into this mother-daughter relationship,” Kang Xin says. ”This is inherently a suspense drama, and we all know Chen Yin’s character is extremely insecure, largely due to her family, namely her parents. Her father died early, and the biggest influence on her is you, Yuzhen, the mother you portray. If this mother is just a typical, one-dimensional bad mother, how could she create such a deep black hole in Chen Yin’s soul? I always felt something was missing, so I kept pondering this. I came up with something just now: if the mother Yuzhen portrays actually blames the daughter’s existence for ruining her happiness later in life, there’s a pathological hatred and disgust towards her daughter. Wouldn’t that set a deeper layer of conflict in the script?”

Jiang Yuzhen’s brow instantly furrows.

”Director, it’s not logical,” she says immediately. ”No mother would hate her child just because her existence ruined my happiness later in life? Because of her, I can’t remarry? It’s too strange.”

”Let’s assume such a scenario. Imagine your husband died, and then you met another person you wanted to be with. You loved this person; he helped you recover from the pain of losing your father and found happiness again. But this person refused to stay with you because of Chen Yin’s presence. He saw her as a burden, and forced you to choose between him or a breakup. As a mother, you couldn’t possibly abandon your child, so you naturally chose the painful breakup. But after that person left, you constantly reconsidered whether your choice was right, because you really loved that man and couldn’t let go. Yet your daughter needed you to take care of her, forcing you to forget the matter, and Chen Yin was weak and sickly, requiring many sacrifices to care for her. Raising a child alone involves so much hardship, and as your daughter grows, her silent, stubborn nature increasingly resists your control. At this point, your heart feels frustrated, agitated, even that your sacrifices have been in vain. The more you love your daughter, the more she angers you, and eventually the pain of giving up happiness for her also erupts. Your attitude towards Chen Yin becomes complex, even a bit repulsive; of course, not entirely or genuinely repulsive...”

Zhou Yun listens to Kang Xin talking about his thoughts as these details enter her mind, shaping the established relationship between roles.

More enriched.

In Zhou Yun’s imagination, the mother played by Jiang Yuzhen transforms, suddenly making her excited.

Kang Xin’s adjustment makes the envisioned image of Jiang Yuzhen more vivid—not just a hot-tempered, morally flawed, universally recognizable mother figure, but also adding a complex blend of love and hate, even jealousy.

Jiang Yuzhen deeply sighs.

”I knew it, acting in your scenes would never be easy,” she says after her sigh. ”I understand, give me some time to digest, and let’s go straight to it later.”
