Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 1017: Chapter 596: An Afternoon in New York (4)

Zhou Lan said, ”Who knows, I guess they won’t get along very well. Lin Miaoyi and Jin Lin aren’t exactly the easygoing types, it’s just that Yuh Jiangxing really doesn’t want to work with Xu Siyao. I’ve known for a while now that Xu Siyao thinks Yuh Jiangxing is incompetent, and Yuh Jiangxing thinks Xu Siyao is brainless. They’ve argued openly in the company several times.”

”They’re both pretty ruthless.”

”If you ask me, Xu Siyao should just headhunt a capable agent from outside to work with her,” Zhou Lan said. ”Otherwise, who doesn’t know her past scandals? Who would genuinely want to work with her? Even if Chen Weian agrees to, there’s no guarantee he won’t worry about ending up like Yuh Jiangxing, unable to fully commit.”

Zhou Yun said, ”True.”

That said, Xu Siyao really didn’t have a good choice of agent in the company.

Zhou Yun thought of herself again.

She and Zhou Lan had gone through so much adjustment to get to where they were today, achieving a certain balance.

There’s no such thing as a naturally suitable fit between an artist and an agent. Who knows how much one has to go through to reach that perfect stage?

The three of them were sipping coffee in New York in the afternoon.

It was cold outside, but warm inside.

The café was crowded, mostly with people who looked European or American, and it seemed the three of them were the only Asians there.

However, none of the people around them cast curious or puzzled glances their way, which likely meant Asians were common enough in a big city like New York now.

After finishing their coffee, Zhou Yun was ready to head back to the hotel to rest up. She needed to get ready to head to Elizabeth’s party.

The party venue wasn’t far, being at Elizabeth’s house in New York.

Zhou Lan decided to take Zheng Xiaojue and Liu Yun for a stroll around New York and do some shopping. Only Cao Jun and the bodyguard accompanied Zhou Yun, and there was no need for Cao Jun to drive. Zhou Lan had hired a local driver, mainly because he was worried Cao Jun wouldn’t understand the traffic rules in the United States.

As they were about to leave, Zhou Lan suddenly received a call from He Wenyun.

”When do you plan to head out?” He Wenyun asked. ”Can I come with you?”

Zhou Yun saw no reason to refuse.

”Sure, where are you? I’ll come pick you up.”

He Wenyun said, ”Okay, I’ll send you the address of my hotel in a bit.”

So, Zhou Yun headed over to He Wenyun’s place first to pick her up.

When He Wenyun saw another man sitting in the front passenger seat, she recognized him. She had seen him while filming ”Deep Sea” and knew he was Zhou Yun’s bodyguard and driver, and was somewhat surprised.

”You brought a bodyguard?”

”Yeah,” Zhou Yun nodded. ”In case of any surprises.”

He Wenyun said, ”True, I remember last time in Los Angeles, someone broke into your hotel room, right?”

Zhou Yun nodded, ”Yeah.”

He Wenyun said, ”That’s horrifying. I’ve never experienced anything like that. I can’t imagine if it were me, if I would have the courage you had. I really admire you.”

”There’s nothing to admire, it was purely survival instinct,” Zhou Yun said.

He Wenyun laughed and said, ”Even so, that’s impressive. If it were me, I’d probably freeze in shock, not knowing what to do.”

”I don’t think so,” Zhou Yun said, not believing He Wenyun was that kind of person.

In some ways, Zhou Yun even felt that He Wenyun was a bit like her.

Both ambitious and determined, never relenting until they got what they wanted.

Zhou Yun had always been curious about He Wenyun’s attitude towards her, especially when they met in the United States this time. Zhou Yun could feel even more strongly that there was some other meaning hidden in how He Wenyun treated her.

What exactly was it?

Up until now, Zhou Yun still hadn’t figured out what it was.
