Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 1039: Chapter 604: Jiang Yuzhen’s Request

At noon, Song Chi hosted a meal for the entire crew.

The place was a well-known big restaurant, and if it were another crew, Song Chi wouldn’t have gone to such great lengths to invite everyone to such a place.

No matter how much money you have, you can’t keep spending like this.

The key is that most of the crew members had filmed ”Heart Inquiry” with him before; they’re old friends.

Everyone was naturally very happy.

Kang Xin said, ”When you have time, can you come and do a cameo in our play?”

Song Chi nodded, ”No problem.”

With Director Kang Xin’s show, Song Chi didn’t have to worry about the cameo turning into a ”special appearance,” nor worry about the production promoting it falsely.

Back then, a big star got called by a friend to do a cameo, filmed for three days, and ended up being the third most significant role in the entire film.

Song Chi and the others had to guard against that.

”What movie are you going to shoot next?” Jiang Yuzhen asked curiously.

”It’s a disaster-themed movie, ’Jiangyun Platform’,” Song Chi said, ”I’ve never shot a disaster film before, but now I finally have the chance.”

”Who’s directing it?” Jiang Yuzhen asked.

”Zuo Hang.”

”Ah, Xiao Zuo.” Jiang Yuzhen showed a surprised expression, ”Has he finally started directing by himself now?”

”Yuzhen, have you worked with him before?”

”Yeah, I made a film before, and he was the cinematographer.”

”There are quite a few cinematographers who switch to directing.”

Kang Xin said, ”Zuo Hang is a young guy I also collaborated with once. He worked as the cinematographer for my film ’Autumn Sun.’ He’s a young man with his own ideas. I thought he had a director’s mindset back then.”

Song Chi said with a smile, ”This is also his first time directing.”

”Hmm?” Jiang Yuzhen said, ”Is his first time directing such a big-budget movie?”

Song Chi: ”Actually, ’Jiangyun Platform’ isn’t a big investment, it’s a low-budget disaster film.”

Jiang Yuzhen looked puzzled.

In many people’s minds, disaster films are blockbuster visual effects movies like ’2012’ and ’The Day After Tomorrow.’

But there are also many low-budget but extremely well-done disaster films, like Korea’s ’Tunnel.’

Jiang Yuzhen was puzzled how an actor of Song Chi’s caliber would star in a low-budget disaster film.

Song Chi said, ”This is a script my company received, and I liked it, so we co-produced the film with other companies. Since no other actor wanted to take the role, I had to do it myself.”

Jiang Yuzhen was amused.

”You’re really taking a risk like this.”

But Song Chi shook his head and said, ”I’m not taking a risk. I genuinely like this script.”

”Xiao Song wants to use his power to explore more territories in domestic genre films,” Kang Xin said. ”Currently, our country’s box office hits are either war-themed or comedies, while disaster films are always absent. I heard you even want to make a sci-fi film?”

”Yes.” Song Chi nodded, ”But these are still just plans.”

Kang Xin said, ”I really admire him. He not only has artistic vision but also an industrial mindset, focusing not only on what’s immediately in front of him.”

Song Chi said with a smile, ”With you praising me like this, how can I dare? I’m just a young guy making a bit of a fuss while I’m young.”

”You shouldn’t just make a fuss; you’re opening up new ground,” Kang Xin said. ”I’m getting older. It’s not just a jump from television to film. Even shooting a new genre makes me nervous and anxious, feeling like it’s a completely new world. But you all are at the age to experiment.”

”Have you considered directing a film?” Zhou Yun said, ”Actually, I almost approached you to be the director for a movie, but later realized it was an unreliable project. Otherwise, I would have contacted you.”

Kang Xin said, ”Movies are completely from another world. I’ve been to your movie sets, and honestly, my thinking is different from yours. Watching your team wait for a shot or for the natural light, I couldn’t help but want to rush up and do it myself because they seemed to dawdle. Even though I’m already considered slow in shooting TV series, compared to them, I could speed down the highway. Of course, I do understand that the shot is worth waiting for. Film fundamentally is a visual art, but I’ve gotten used to storytelling.”
