Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 346: Chapter 342: Xu Lian’s Reaction

Wu Jingyi had anticipated that Xu Lian would ask her name, and she was confident that Xu Lian did not recognize any of Huo Sining’s classmates from her school days, so she made up a name on the spot.

”My name is Jiang Jing, and I am Huo Sining’s high school classmate.”

Of course, Xu Lian didn’t know who Jiang Jing was, but when the girl introduced herself, she immediately believed her to some extent, ”Why are you telling me all this?”

With a smile, Wu Jingyi said, ”Auntie, to tell you the truth, I am good friends with Huo Sining. However, I think it’s not right for her to run away from home like this. No matter what, you are the benefactor who raised her.”

”She’s now a university student and may even become a famous magician both domestically and internationally someday, wealthy and successful. But you and your family of three are still stuck in the countryside.”

”Although you’re only her aunt by marriage, the grace of raising her is greater than that of birth. For Huo Sining to cut ties with you so completely is just too unfeeling—how is she any different from an ungrateful wolf?”

”I don’t want her to be criticized for these unsavory past deeds once she becomes famous, so I wanted to give you a heads-up. I hope you can look past her previous thoughtless actions, believing that she’ll surely remember your previous kindness after she makes it big.”

Wu Jingyi’s words reasoned with emotion, speaking entirely from the perspective of a friend concerned for Huo Sining, even persuading Xu Lian to forgive and forget.

However, Wu Jingyi was acutely aware of Xu Lian’s temperament. Xu Lian’s years of harsh treatment and bullying toward Huo Sining made it clear that she could never truly be sincere about Huo Sining.

Wu Jingyi’s guess was spot on. After her long speech, Xu Lian had only picked up on a few key words: university student, magician, wealthy.

Half a year ago, Huo Sining had stolen the household registration book and ID card Xu Lian had hidden and fled. Xu Lian had thought that Huo Sining was just running away from home and would come back once she got over her anger.

A girl who had never left the county wouldn’t know how difficult and dangerous life outside could be. Once she had enough of the hardships and struggles, she would surely come back eagerly.

But Xu Lian was wrong. For a full six months, Huo Sining vanished without a trace, as if she had disappeared from the world.

Xu Lian went from feeling schadenfreude at the beginning to becoming increasingly irritable and then resentful. Nearly every time she argued with Huo Yong, she would bring up Huo Sining, cursing her as an ungrateful wretch by talking through her hat.

And now someone was calling her, telling her that the scapegoat, the money-losing star she cursed and looked down upon every day, had actually gone off to university and was going to become famous, soon to be a well-known magician in the country, wealthy!

How could Xu Lian’s heart be calm? She felt as if she was going to explode with anger, but in front of this ”classmate” of Huo Sining’s, she couldn’t show her emotions. After thinking it over, she still confirmed repeatedly:

”Is what you’re saying true? Are there videos of Huo... our Ningning performing magic online? Can we see them too?”

Wu Jingyi knew she had achieved her goal and said with a smile, ”Yes, you just need to find any computer with internet access and search for ’Miss Magic,’ and you’ll find the video. I wouldn’t lie to you. What good would it do me to deceive you?”

Xu Lian felt that made sense—this person was just making a call, and lying wouldn’t get them any advantage.

Thinking this way, Xu Lian, who had been somewhat dubious, now believed her almost completely.

After hanging up Wu Jingyi’s phone call, Xu Lian paced around the house. She went from feeling indignant and unwilling upon first hearing the news to gradually calming down.

Upon further reflection on Wu Jingyi’s words, Xu Lian felt like she suddenly had an epiphany, gaining a new perspective and understanding of the situation.

She detested Huo Sining immensely and was indignant to learn that Sining had sneaked out to attend university.

But now that the wretched girl had become famous—just as her classmate had said—she was bound to become wealthy. As her aunt, she should definitely get to share in the good life of fine dining and luxury, shouldn’t she?

And her son, as Sining’s cousin, couldn’t be neglected. She was expected to ensure he got into the best school and received the best education.

Then, they would move their family of three into a big house in the big city and enjoy the lavish lifestyle of the rich together!

The more Xu Lian thought about it, the more convinced she was that she had the right idea. She might not like Sining, but she would never turn down money. However, before that, she still needed to confirm whether what Jiang Jing had said was true.

Xu Lian wasn’t well-educated and didn’t know much about computers, but she knew that her niece, Liu Meiling, who worked at a foreign company in Guangcheng, definitely did. Those foreign companies reportedly all used computers for their work.

With this in mind, Xu Lian hurriedly took out her address book, found Liu Meiling’s number, and dialed it digit by digit.

Once the call connected, Liu Meiling’s voice came through after a short while, ”Who is this?”

Liu Meiling’s impatient tone was almost identical to Xu Lian’s when she answered Wu Jingyi’s call.

However, Xu Lian couldn’t care less about Liu Meiling’s attitude at the moment and asked eagerly, ”Mei Ling, it’s your aunt here.”

”Oh, Auntie, what do you want?”

Liu Meiling said this with a hint of disgust while applying nail polish to her toenails.

Xu Lian didn’t care about Liu Meiling’s mood; she just asked outright, ”Mei Ling, don’t you work in a foreign company? You must know how to use a computer. Can you do your aunt a favor?”

”What favor? I’m actually quite busy right now,” Liu Meiling replied, finishing her toenail polish and getting ready to head out, not particularly interested in what Xu Lian had said.

”Here’s the thing. Huo Sining, your cousin, remember her? She’s been accepted into S University and is now attending college there. Just now, I heard that she performed some Magic at the school, and it was posted online. Apparently, she got famous, and even CCTV wants to invite her to perform on their New Year’s Gala. I don’t have internet access here and can’t see the video, so I wanted you to check it out for me, see if it’s for real.”

Liu Meiling sneered at this revelation:

”Auntie, you’re old enough to know better. How could you believe such nonsense? That scrawny Huo Sining performing magic? Magic is a high-end, expensive affair; where would Sining get the money to learn that?”

”And to perform on the New Year’s Gala? You’re joking, right? That’s a stage reserved for celebrities and the wealthy. Huo Sining appearing there, you must be dreaming!”

”Who told you this? It wouldn’t happen to be Sining herself, right? Wasn’t that girl the one who didn’t submit any college preferences? How’d she get into S University? She must be deceiving you, or what? Does she want to ask you for money to go to the Imperial Capital? Stop kidding yourself, she’s definitely scamming you for money!”
