Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 332: Chapter 328: Not In The Service Area

The gang still didn’t know that danger was imminent. The leader arrived at the cave where Huo Sining had been kidnapped, but found only a Wei District merchant sitting on the ground covering his eyes, while the other three were nowhere to be seen.

”Where are Ackton and the others?”

The leader kicked the Wei District merchant and asked with an ashen face.

The merchant shook his head: ”Ackton and Nigemaiti were guarding inside the cave, and Kadel and I were keeping watch at the entrance. By the time I received your call and was about to enter the cave to take the woman out, she had already broken free from the ropes. Ackton and Nigemaiti were gone, and that woman somehow got hold of a bottle of pepper spray, sprayed me with it, and instantly I was in such pain I couldn’t see a thing.”

There was indeed a pungent aroma of pepper spray in the cave, the leader saw the pitiful state of the Wei District merchant with tears and snot streaming down, and couldn’t help but flash a look of sympathy and annoyance. The sensation of pepper spray in the eyes was more unbearable than a knife cut.

”Where’s Kadel? Why isn’t he here either?”

The leader quickly detected something off in the merchant’s story.

He didn’t care how the woman had managed to break free from the ropes or get the pepper spray, but those three were responsible for watching the hostage, and now they had all disappeared!

Could it be they ran off fearing punishment after the hostage escaped?

The leader’s face fluctuated between shades of dark and light. As a gang leader, what he hated the most was betrayal. It was one thing for those three to shirk their duties, but to flee out of fear of punishment was utterly unforgivable!

”Call Nigemaiti. Tell those three to come back immediately, or they face the consequences!”

The subordinate commanded to make the call immediately dialed Nigemaiti and the others, but surprisingly, all three phones responded with ”The number you have dialed is out of service area.”

The henchman’s face turned strange, looking at the leader before hesitantly speaking: ”Boss, their phones are unreachable, saying they’re out of service.”

”Out of service? You think I’m a fool? It hasn’t been that long; where could they have run to? They must be afraid I’d find them and have shut off their phones on purpose!”

The gang leader was livid but knew that the immediate priority wasn’t to chase down the traitors but to find the hostage, otherwise the ten million ransom was definitely lost.

”Go find her, we must catch that woman!”

As he led several gang members out of the cave, they hadn’t gone far from the entrance when they were caught by several soldiers in camouflage bursting out from both sides.

These gang members were no match for Yu Cheng and his men. They tried to run, but were subdued in moments.

”Where’s the person you captured?”

Yu Cheng stepped on the head of the gang leader and asked ferociously.

The gang member still harbored a trace of hope and feigned innocence: ”What... what person? We didn’t capture anyone.”

Yu Cheng grabbed the gang member’s head and smashed a fist into his cheek: ”Playing tricks with me? Let’s see if your mouth is tougher or my fist is!”

Just then, a soldier who had gone into the cave to inspect dragged out a henchman with swollen eyes and a tear-streaked face, holding a bundle of ropes, and reported to Yu Cheng:

”Commander Yu, it was this man who used anesthetic to capture the hostage. These ropes were used to bind the hostage, but they’ve been cut.”

Yu Cheng nodded and, with a purse of his lips in anger, asked, ”What’s wrong with this guy?”

”He was sprayed with pepper spray by a hostage, temporarily blinding him,” the soldier replied.

Yu Cheng’s mouth twitched involuntarily. He had thought it odd how such a burly thug couldn’t keep watch over a woman. Pepper spray, indeed it’s the kind of vicious tactic a woman would use.

Seeing the thug’s miserable and pathetic state, not only Yu Cheng but also the other soldiers looked on with a mix of concern and disbelief. Indeed, a woman is a tiger, and in desperation, their scratches can really hurt!

Before long, the rest of the thugs who had gone to capture Huo Sining were also subdued by Yu Cheng’s men.

When these thugs were rounded up and saw the massive force of almost a hundred soldiers and police, their faces went pale with fright, and the gang leader hastily lowered his head in panic.

This group of thugs was responsible for guarding the gambling den in Hetian, and the leader happened to know Mei Dekang.

Mei Dekang owed money to the gambling den, so the thug went to collect the debt on its behalf. Coincidentally, he saw Huo Sining purchasing an unremarkable piece of rough jade gamble material from the Mei Family.

A piece of rough jade with very low gambling potential would sell for thirty to fifty thousand on the market, yet that woman did not hesitate to offer two hundred thousand.

Seeing Huo Sining’s bold and carefree manner, a lightbulb went off for the thug—this woman was obviously loaded.

It just so happened that his subordinates reported a run-in with this woman in the market, and the thug immediately saw an opportunity to catch the wealthy woman and extort a large sum of money from her.

Like the guide, the thug thought Huo Sining and her group were just jade traders with a little bit of money—people without power or influence and afraid to die. He assumed that by extorting them, they wouldn’t dare call the police and would obediently deliver the money.

The thugs felt that after they received the money, they could just hide in the Kunlun Mountain for a while, and everything would be fine once the dust settled. However, they had no idea that their kidnapping target was someone not to be trifled with, and they had easily drawn the attention of the military.

Most importantly, these military ruffians were even more ruthless than the common thugs, beating faces and kicking legs (the third leg, to be specific)—far too vicious.

And when you added a hostage who knew how to use pepper spray, damn, those thugs felt they had really drawn the short straw this time.

Gu Xu met with Yu Cheng at the cliff cave where Huo Sining was kidnapped, and after Yu Cheng finished reporting, a soldier fortuitously found a discarded backpack nearby, containing a mobile phone and a wallet, with Huo Sining’s ID and bank cards inside.

”Hand these people over to the police. We don’t need to hurry with dealing with them now, let’s search for the people!”

Knowing that Huo Sining had indeed successfully escaped, Gu Xu felt considerably relieved but also worried, not knowing whether Huo Sining was injured.

A group of people were looking for Huo Sining along the riverbank, but none of them thought that Huo Sining would run into the river.

Gu Xu had quite a knack for tracking, and soon he followed a trail of scattered footprints to the riverbank, frowning involuntarily.

If Huo Sining had successfully escaped, she should not have headed into the mountains or any other places to hide, and certainly not into the river.

Besides, normal people couldn’t bear the temperature of such cold river water. With Huo Sining’s intelligence and cunning, she wouldn’t do something so foolish.

Gu Xu touched the icy river water and immediately dismissed his own guess.
