Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 315: Chapter 312 Another Bead

Huo Sining and the others followed Master Yan into the Shiting and sat down, noticing that he ignored the four of them and just busied himself with his work, which made Huo Sining and her companions feel somewhat awkward.

However, Su Qingqing had mentioned from the start that this Master Yan was a bit eccentric, so Bai Yishan didn’t find it strange.

Talented people often display pride in their abilities, and if they were to be discouraged by Master Yan’s demeanor, wouldn’t their trip have been in vain?

”Master Yan, we’ve come uninvited and would like to apologize for any offense. May we have a talk with you?” Bai Yishan was the first to break the silence.

Master Yan, who was holding a chisel, stopped his hand, raised his head, and looked at Bai Yishan:

”You’ve also come to ask me to come out of retirement, haven’t you? If that’s the case, I think you should be aware of my rule here. I only ask one question; if you can answer it correctly, I will accompany you wherever you go.”

A hint of joy flashed in Bai Yishan’s eyes as she heard this. Raising her head, she glanced at Su Qingqing and Huo Sining, and when both nodded at her, she hastily replied, ”Please ask.”

Master Yan raised his head and looked at Bai Yishan with a faint question, ”You only need to answer one question: why am I unwilling to leave Hetian?”

That’s it? Just this question?

Bai Yishan was stunned, and she exchanged puzzled looks with Huo Sining’s group.

What kind of question was this? How would she know why he didn’t want to leave Hetian?

How could she possibly know the answer to such a tricky question when she wasn’t a worm in someone else’s stomach?

Besides, even if she answered correctly, he could just as easily deny it.

Bai Yishan’s expression darkened, and she scoffed inwardly. Could it be that Master Yan was indeed someone who sought fame under false pretenses, creating such a question to fool people and seek attention? No wonder so many had failed to persuade him to leave his seclusion!

”Is it because your family’s ancestral business is located in Hangzhou?”

After Bai Yishan hesitated for a long time without speaking, Su Qingqing, seeing this, paused for a moment before tentatively answering.

Considering that the Yan family’s residence in Hetian included an old house and a centuries-old pharmacy, it seemed likely they were a hereditary family, and someone’s reluctance to leave their ancestral business was only natural.

Besides that, Su Qingqing could not think of any other reason that would make a person stay so persistently in one place.

Unfortunately, after Su Qingqing’s response, there was neither joy nor disappointment on Master Yan’s face; he simply shook his head indifferently and replied carelessly, ”Sorry, miss, you’re wrong. Please leave.”

Once finished, he no longer paid attention to Huo Sining and the others, burying himself in his unfinished wood carving.

Although they had anticipated this outcome, disappointment and unwillingness still surged in Bai Yishan’s heart. Her complexion fluctuated between green and white as she stood up, seemingly wanting to say something, only to be stopped by Huo Sining.

Huo Sining shook her head at her and stood up with a smile, politely taking her leave from the man.

There, Master Yan was deeply engrossed in carving the wood sculpture, appearing indifferent to Huo Sining and her group’s departure. Huo Sining felt helpless inside, knowing that their trip had been for naught.

Just at that moment, the Tibetan Mastiff known as Lei Shi climbed out of the pool and charged directly toward the Shiting where Master Yan was, its wet fur still dripping with water. It didn’t even shake itself off; it just rushed to the feet of Master Yan.

Master Yan extended his hand and placed it on the forehead of the Tibetan Mastiff, then controlled the head with his large palm, and gently caressed it. It seemed as though he was petting the Mastiff, and Lei Shi immediately calmed down, standing still.

Such an action wasn’t strange, and Huo Sining stood up to follow Bai Yishan and the others as they left.

However, as Huo Sining and the others stepped out of the Shiting, she turned back, wanting to catch another glimpse of that affectionate scene between master and pet. This inadvertent glance, however, led to an abrupt change in her complexion.

Master Yan was bowing his head, his facial expression obscured, but a white bead suddenly appeared on his forehead, and as his palm stroked the Mastiff, Huo Sining distinctly saw a fine breeze playing through the Mastiff’s fur. In a matter of moments, the originally wet fur was completely dry, without a trace of dampness.

Huo Sining froze completely, standing dumbstruck outside the Shiting, wanting to ask something but not knowing where to begin.

”Ningning, what’s wrong?”

Seeing Huo Sining looking bewildered, Su Qingqing hastily called out to her in a soft voice.

Regaining her composure, Huo Sining quickly concealed the shock and panic on her face, turned around with a smile and said, ”It’s nothing, let’s go.”

Master Yan looked up at Huo Sining briefly then continued to lower his head to work on the woodcarving in his hands as if he had not noticed her peculiar reaction.

Huo Sining let out a breath of relief, but her mind was still in disarray. She hurriedly pulled Su Qingqing along to leave, and only when they were outside Yan Residence did she finally breathe easier.

”What the hell is with this Yan family? They’re so pretentious. Listen to the kind of bizarre questions he asks. Who beside himself could guess the reason he doesn’t want to leave Hetian? If he wanted help, he would have asked for it long ago; why wait until now? We’re not psychic!”

Bai Yishan, who had failed to enlist anyone’s help, was furious. She had refrained from showing her anger in Yan Residence because of the Tibetan Mastiff keeping a close watch, but once outside, she could no longer hold back and her temper flared.

Huo Sining didn’t answer Bai Yishan’s questions; her mind was full of the scene she had just witnessed in the Shiting.

Another bead, just like hers!

Huo Sining was bewildered. When she obtained the Water-Repelling Pearl, she had always believed it was unique, yet in a single month, she had encountered two people possessing Spiritual Pearls.

The one Su Lan, who was saved by Gu Xu and brought onto the yacht, had was a red Fire Spirit Pearl, and Master Yan had a white bead. Seeing how he controlled the wind to dry off the Mastiff, it was apparently related to wind, so maybe it was a Wind Spirit Pearl.

By now, Huo Sining was skeptical of Su Lan’s words, especially about needing to learn a mental method to control the Water-Repelling Pearl; she faintly felt that he wasn’t joking.

Her mind was filled with doubts. What was all this about? Why did Master Yan also have a bead, and who exactly was Su Lan? Could it be that he indeed had some connection with her?

”I was hoping to try my luck, but I didn’t expect...”

Bai Yishan spoke with undeniable disappointment in her voice. She had come with a glimmer of hope, but upon arrival, she realized that Master Yan was as difficult as the rumors suggested; even an ordinary question from him had stumped her.

”Master Yan is a top-tier master sculptor in the country, especially skilled in jade carving. However, no one has ever managed to persuade him to come out of retirement, so it’s normal that you hit a wall. Sister Yishan, don’t be too upset. If all else fails, we will use our sincerity to move him. Let’s settle down in Hetian first and come back again in a few days.”
