Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 301: Chapter 298 Who’s causing trouble?

”Ever-changing, witnessing the moment of miracles? What kind of program is that?”

Xu Yating returned to the dormitory with confusion. The other girls in the dormitory also found the program name mentioned by Huo Sining rather baffling after hearing it.

”Could it be a fashion show?” One of the girls had a flash of inspiration, thinking of a program, ”Ever-changing, everyone changing several outfits surely counts as variation, doesn’t it?”

Xu Yating shook her head: ”I don’t think so, Huo Sining said it’s a solo act and didn’t change the type of program.”

”I see.” The girls became even more curious, all looking forward to the arrival of tomorrow’s preliminary selection.

”Wang Qin, how’s your program rehearsal going?” Having discussed Huo Sining’s program, Xu Yating’s gaze fell on Wang Qin, who had been sitting on her bed without speaking.

Wang Qin was startled, her eyes flickered for a moment, and she forced a smile on her face: ”It’s alright, there shouldn’t be any problems tomorrow. Monitor, could you show me the program list?”

Xu Yating handed over the program list without suspicion.

Seeing the program name written next to Huo Sining on the list, she involuntarily pursed her lips, her eyes carrying a hint of doubt:

”Why would Huo Sining change her program type at the last minute? The registration has been open for half a month; all preparations should have been made by now. It’s so strange, could this program just be something she thought up on the fly to fill the slot?”

An awkward smile appeared on Xu Yating’s face upon hearing this: ”When I asked her, she said the program wasn’t submitted by her. I suspect some classmate played a prank, deliberately filling out her registration form and handing it in to the Literature and Arts Club. None of the teachers called to verify, which led to this big misunderstanding.”

The other girls were immediately astonished upon hearing this:

”It wasn’t submitted by her? How could this happen; can she perform smoothly tomorrow?”

”With only one day left, even if she studies desperately it won’t be enough. She’s bound to mess up on stage!”

”It’s over, our class is sure to lose face; the other classes will laugh us to death.”

”If we had known earlier that the registration wasn’t submitted by her, it would have been fine just taking up a program slot. She should have spoken up sooner; it’s too late to remedy the situation now.”

Hearing the girls’ complaints, Xu Yating was also somewhat worried in her heart. As the class monitor, she naturally cared more about the honor and face of the class. If Huo Sining made a fool of herself on stage, she would be the first to lose face.

But at this point, complaining was useless. Although the girls blamed Huo Sining for taking up a program slot, Xu Yating knew very well that even if there was a spare slot, they wouldn’t dare go on stage. It was all just big talk.

”Don’t say that. Although Huo Sining doesn’t talk to us much normally, I believe she will do her best. Let’s all go and cheer for her tomorrow!”

Wang Qin, sitting on her bed, spoke up to console them, but a trace of schadenfreude flashed through her eyes, difficult to catch.

Indeed, her words only deepened the girls’ resentment.

”It’s her own fault for living off-campus and not getting to know us, making it seem like we’re excluding her.”

”Exactly. I feel like she always acts so cold and aloof, keeping to herself and pretending to be superior.”

”Speaking of which, her accent doesn’t seem like a local’s. A non-local not living on campus and always running outside, could it be that she’s living together with someone?”

Xu Yating didn’t like this kind of gossip, with its hint of malice and ill-intent. She frowned and coughed twice to interrupt the conversation of those few people:

”Talking behind someone’s back is not a good habit. I talked with Huo Sining today and actually found her quite easy to get along with. If you think she’s too proud, you should at least try talking to her first. Without any first-hand experience, you don’t have the right to any opinions.”

Since Xu Yating had said this, even if those girls didn’t like Huo Sining, it was no longer appropriate for them to openly criticize her. They quickly turned away and busied themselves with their own matters.

Xu Yating felt helpless inside but then she suddenly thought of something, ”Right, Wang Qin, about the party membership application the counselor mentioned last time, have you applied for it?”

Wang Qin’s figure stiffened, her head bowed to hide the gloom in her eyes, and she said in a muffled voice, ”I’ve submitted the application form, but the counselor said it’s not certain whether I’ll be chosen.”

Xu Yating sighed, ”There are so many people in the department, all we can do is try our best. But don’t be discouraged, it’s only the first semester. There are still four years of university ahead, and with your good grades and active participation in class activities, you’ll definitely have plenty of opportunities in the future.”

Wang Qin didn’t make a sound, but what emerged in her mind was a scene she had witnessed half a month earlier outside the counselor’s office door.

That day she had gone to pick up the application form from the counselor, but before she could knock on the door, she heard Qin Shaoyou’s voice from inside, ”Take this form, fill it out, and give it back to me.”

”What form?” a girl’s voice asked.

”The party membership application form. The department has two slots each semester, and I’ve reserved one for you.”

”Isn’t that a bit improper? I think it would be better to leave the spot for other students. I’m not really interested in it.”

”There’s nothing improper about it. Given the status of those two Huaxia Koi, even if I don’t mention it, the faculty would definitely reserve a slot for you. Although it’s not that important, it still counts as a credential. Whether you’re applying for graduate school or other institutions, having this would lower the barriers a bit.”

Qin Shaoyou’s voice was detached, but Wang Qin heard it all too clearly.

She hadn’t expected that one of the department’s only two party membership application slots was secured like that, and Wang Qin’s heart sank instantly.

She wanted to listen more, but then she heard footsteps approaching. Unable to get away in time, she had to pretend she had just arrived at the door, raising her hand as if to knock.

A female student opened the office door from inside, holding an application form in her hand as she walked out. Seeing Wang Qin standing at the door, she paused slightly, nodded as a greeting without saying a word, and walked away directly.

Wang Qin bit her lip; she remembered that this girl was from their class, named Huo Sining, who wasn’t very noticeable on a daily basis. But to her surprise, the counselor had even bent the rules for her, reserving a party membership spot for her in private.

Initially, Wang Qin was just a bit unhappy, feeling that this was unfair, but since there was still one slot left, she didn’t take it too seriously.

It was only when she submitted her application to Qin Shaoyou that he told her the department’s party membership slots were limited, and the likelihood of her being selected this time was not very high.

Now Wang Qin was stunned. She couldn’t possibly ask Qin Shaoyou who the remaining slot had gone to. With no clear target for her frustration, she directed her anger toward Huo Sining.

So, when she saw that the school’s welcome party sign-ups were available directly on the forum, Wang Qin’s first thought was to take revenge on Huo Sining. Even if she couldn’t make Huo Sining give up the party membership slot, at least she could embarrass her in front of all the teachers and students in the department, to vent the nasty feeling in her heart.
