Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 305: Chapter 302: On One’s Own Merits

After the preliminary round ended, the result was just as Xu Yating had expected. Huo Sining’s magic performance was chosen, and Wang Qin was out.

Everyone thought Wang Qin would lose control of her emotions, especially since she had already cried before. However, to Xu Yating’s surprise, Wang Qin was actually very composed, acknowledging the news with a simple ”I see” and then remaining silent.

The preliminaries for the College of Biology ended, and that very afternoon, a new thread appeared on the university forum, quickly spreading like wildfire.

”College of Biology Freshers’ Gala Preliminary Selection. Super Close-up Magic Blinds the Judges!”

A video that someone had taken was uploaded to the forum, and with such a catchy headline, it instantly attracted a lot of viewers.

After watching it, everyone went crazy, leaving comments one after another.

”Freshman from the College of Biology? Damn, that’s awesome!”

”What’s the name of this girl? I want to learn from her!”

”Sharing this, I’m going to post it on Weibo!”

”Witness the moment of miracle, this really is a miracle, how did she do it!”

”It looks like this year’s Freshers’ Gala is going to be very interesting!”

The post was kept afloat by the users, soon turned hot red. Unbeknownst to Huo Sining, just because of this post, she became a celebrity at S University, adored by countless young lads and ladies.

At this time, it was still two years before Master Liu Qian would perform at the Spring Festival Gala, so Huo Sining wasn’t worried about being accused of plagiarism for her act, and even if it did spread, it was no big deal.

The mystery of magic lies in its unpredictability, which is why many people are obsessed with unveiling it. However, nobody could find a flaw in Huo Sining’s magic because she used a storage ring to achieve her effect. If someone could spot the trick, she would be impressed.

As for how it was done, for Huo Sining who possessed a Storage Space, it was as easy as flipping a hand.

Because her method of performing magic was very simple and crude: she would prepare the props she needed in her space in advance, and during the performance, she would use her hands to shield and swiftly substitute the props with those from her space.

Since she could directly retrieve anything that entered the space with a thought, she could instantly complete the Pillar-Switching Scam without fear of being discovered.

Take the magic trick of a coin passing through a glass, for instance. She had placed an upside-down glass in her space beforehand and glued a one-yuan coin to the bottom.

When it was time for the coin to pass through the glass, her hands quickly switched the glass while the coin in the palm of her hand was deftly tossed into the space.

At that moment, she slapped her hand on the glass with the glued coin, and in an instant, the coin fell down. Thus, the magic that stunned everyone was crudely accomplished.

Seeing Huo Sining using the Storage Space to do such trivial things, a certain protector found it so funny that her stomach almost hurt from trying not to laugh.

And yet Huo Sining had to pretend to be calm and act like a skilled and impressive magician, fooling everyone into being astonished, while the protector truly wanted to say, ”Foolish humans, you’ve all been duped.”

When Huo Sining got home, she received a call from Su Qingqing, who had also seen the post on the school forum, and exclaimed:

”Wow, Ningning, when did you secretly learn magic without telling me?! How exactly did you do it? Tell me quick, so I can go show off some magic tricks and debunk them for those idiots in our class!”

Huo Sining’s lips twitched involuntarily. Idiot, she had managed to insult herself too, hadn’t she?

”Magic isn’t interesting if all is revealed. It’s better left to everyone’s imagination.”

Huo Sining appeared very confident, which discouraged Su Qingqing from asking any further questions. After some pointless nagging, Su Qingqing hurriedly hung up the phone.

That night, Huo Sining was surfing the internet when she suddenly received a message from a stranger on QQ. Upon seeing the message, she was taken aback.

”I am Wang Qin. I’m the one who used your name to submit the program registration form. I’m sorry.”

Huo Sining was somewhat surprised. To be honest, she had been annoyed by the person who had inexplicably signed her up for the welcoming gala. She disliked these underhanded schemers the most. But faced with Wang Qin’s candid apology, she didn’t feel it was right to blame her.

”Why did you do it?”

Huo Sining, no longer angry, was curious about Wang Qin’s motive. It seemed like she didn’t know Wang Qin at all, and they hadn’t even spoken before the preliminary selection. Why would this girl target her out of the blue?

On the other end, Wang Qin bit her lip and, after a few seconds of silence, replied:

”Because I was jealous of you. You could easily secure a party membership slot without any real talent or learning, while I, despite my diligence, was denied the opportunity to even apply.”

”I thought everything in university demanded real skill, but the counselor showed favoritism and reserved the slot for you directly. That’s why I disliked you and wanted you to lose face in front of all the teachers and students of the college.”

Understanding the meaning behind this reply, Huo Sining would be truly naive if she still didn’t get it.

Huo Sining hadn’t expected that the girl had overheard Qin Shaoyou favoring her and secretly keeping a party membership slot for her, which had ignited Wang Qin’s jealousy and hatred towards her.

Regarding the party membership, Huo Sining wasn’t particularly enthusiastic. She wasn’t even sure if she would work at a research institute in the future, so this membership was not essential to her.

However, what seemed like a trivial matter to Huo Sining was significant to Wang Qin, and coincidentally, it was a benefit Huo Sining had obtained through backdoor favoritism. No wonder Wang Qin was indignant and had set a trap for her to fall into.

Huo Sining somewhat understood Wang Qin’s feelings but could not condone her actions.

No matter how much one dislikes someone, resorting to such petty tactics only highlights one’s own incompetence and lack of character.

However, since the party membership matter was indeed a result of her gaining unfair advantage at the expense of Wang Qin, Huo Sining felt a bit awkward when Wang Qin pointed it out. After thinking it over, she replied:

”Even though I’m not particularly concerned about that party membership slot, since you brought it up, I can’t just pretend I didn’t see it. If you’re upset about losing that slot to me, then you’ll just have to earn it back with your abilities.”

Wang Qin was stunned: ”What do you mean?”

Huo Sining smiled and quickly typed out her response:

”The final exams are approaching. Let’s have a fair competition. If your grades turn out to be better than mine, then I’ll have nothing to say. I’ll go directly to Teacher Qin Shaoyou and ask him to give that slot to you!”

Disliking the practice of pulling strings, Huo Sining did not want to indulge in such dishonorable victories. Since Wang Qin wanted fairness, she would give her a convincing defeat.
