Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 309: Chapter 306: Tampering with the Lines

Du Yanlin wore a smile on her face, yet her eyes revealed a look of schadenfreude.

However, her smile quickly faltered, because soon Huo Sining made her entrance, dressed in a stylish female jazz outfit, and behind her, several boys were carrying an enormous prop covered with red cloth onto the stage.

The smile on Du Yanlin’s face suddenly stiffened, and as she looked at the prop hidden by the red silk ribbon, her entire face turned ashen, her expression a picture of distortion.

How could this be, she had clearly gone into the prop room and ruined that bitch Huo Sining’s performance props, where did she get these props?!

Huo Sining looked at Du Yanlin with a smile that was not quite a smile, and a mysterious light flickered in her eyes.

Du Yanlin’s body trembled, knowing that Huo Sining had discovered the props had been destroyed and even suspected her.

Under Huo Sining’s meaningful smile, Du Yanlin felt a twinge of unease in her heart, but she quickly regained her composure, aware that she was on stage, and that she still had to deliver her host lines.

Clutching her cue cards in hand, Du Yanlin’s mind raced, and with a sudden inspiration, she put down the cue cards and turned to the audience with a smile, saying:

”It seems everyone’s looking forward to the College of Biology’s magic, many of you must have watched that video about Huo’s close-up magic on the forum over and over, right?”

”Right!” the audience answered in unison.

With a glance out of the corner of her eye at Huo Sining, Du Yanlin asked with a smile, ”Having watched the close-up magic so many times, I wonder if everyone would like to see a grand-scale magic performance?”

The crowd was stunned, and Huo Sining’s step onto the stage also paused.

She hadn’t participated in the rehearsal for the welcoming ceremony’s program, and for the sake of surprise in her performance, she had specifically told the club teacher not to reveal the details of her magic.

Even Su Qingqing didn’t know she had changed her close-up magic to grand-scale magic, how did Du Yanlin find out?

Huo Sining suddenly looked up sharply at Du Yanlin, only to see Du Yanlin hooking her lips into a cold smile, turning back to stare straight at her with an attitude that screamed, as the host, I will embarrass you, and there’s nothing you can do to stop me.

If Huo Sining hadn’t realized what Du Yanlin was trying to do by now, she would be a fool.

Unfortunately for Du Yanlin, her scheme was doomed to fail, as she had no idea that, worried the audience would not be able to see clearly because of the distance from the stage, Huo Sining had indeed transformed her close-up magic into grand-scale magic for the sake of the performance’s effect.

Her current announcement had little effect on Huo Sining’s magic performance, it was a beneficial mistake that played right into Huo Sining’s hands.

Huo Sining’s mind raced, and she feigned panic, looking at Du Yanlin with eyes full of anxiety and anger, her complexion turning stark white in an instant.

Seeing Huo Sining’s flustered expression, Du Yanlin believed she had triumphed, turned towards the audience cheerfully, saying:

”We’ve all grown tired of close-up magic, so let’s now enjoy an astounding grand-scale magic performance by the College of Biology’s Miss Magic, please welcome Huo Sining!”

Upon finishing these words, the audience indeed erupted in astonishment.

Everyone had thought that Huo Sining was going to perform close-up magic, and many had even pushed forward to get a better view of what was happening on stage, fearing they wouldn’t be able to see clearly.

But now, the host was saying that it would be a grand-scale magic performance, could it be that the College of Biology’s newly rising Miss Magic, in addition to her close-up magic, could also perform grand-scale magic? That’s just too awesome, isn’t it?!

”Damn, how the hell did this girl pop up?!”

”Is she from a magic hereditary family or something? I bet her parents are magicians!”

”Then why is she studying biology? Couldn’t she just perform magic instead?”

”Exactly, she could become famous just by performing magic, why bother going to university at all!”

”...”

There was a buzz of discussion among the audience, but Du Yanlin felt a wave of satisfaction inside her, and even her walk became lighter. As she passed by Huo Sining, her face bore a smile, and in a lowered voice, she pronounced each word clearly,

”Huo Sining, I hope you—will—not—let—everyone—down!”

Huo Sining shrugged her shoulders, ”Whether I’ll disappoint them or not I don’t know, but I’m certain about one thing, you’re going to be disappointed because your little scheme is going to fall through.”

A sneer remained plastered on Du Yanlin’s face. Just now, Huo Sining had looked totally flustered upon hearing her words. Du Yanlin had taken in every bit of that lost and helpless expression.

To Du Yanlin, Huo Sining was merely faking composure. Earlier, she had declared that Huo Sining would perform stage magic, and she didn’t believe that Huo Sining could change her act in just a few short seconds.

When Huo Sining would still perform close-up magic, there would surely be jeers from the audience. Du Yanlin was looking forward to seeing that embarrassment.

Huo Sining knew exactly what Du Yanlin was thinking, but the scenario she longed to see was not going to happen, because—

As Jolin Tsai’s ”Seventy-Two Changes” started playing in the background, Huo Sining, wearing jazz boots, stepped onto the stage. With an arm outstretched, she pointed the Jazz Cane towards the audience, removed her hat in a gentlemanly bow, and then magically pulled a rose out of the seemingly empty hat.

”Wow! Is it starting already?!”

”The rose, where did she pull it from!”

”That was too fast, I couldn’t see clearly! No, I have to hold on, I absolutely can’t blink!”

Du Yanlin’s face froze. Hadn’t she ground Huo Sining’s rose to bits? Where on earth did she get such a fresh rose in such a short time?!

Du Yanlin didn’t understand magic; when she saw Huo Sining’s roses and doves in the prop room, all she thought of doing was destroying them.

But what she failed to notice and overlooked was that those props weren’t meant for close-up magic at all. Huo Sining was performing stage magic, not close-up magic.

Huo Sining had produced a rose, and Du Yanlin was dumbfounded, her heart sinking involuntarily, realizing she had tried to be clever but had messed up instead.

Her altering the script on her own didn’t cause any trouble for Huo Sining; instead, it had riled up the director of the freshman welcoming party, Teacher Chen Xin from the arts society.

Seeing Chen Xin staring at her coldly from backstage made Du Yanlin’s heart tremble, and she shivered involuntarily, turning her head away subconsciously, too guilty to look at Chen Xin again.

Chen Xin was notoriously strict and a strong commander; it was clear from the earlier rehearsals that, by altering the script, Du Yanlin had offended Chen Xin and probably wouldn’t be participating in future welcoming parties anymore.

Thinking about it made Du Yanlin almost go mad with anger. Filled with resentment, she involuntarily raised her head to glare at Huo Sining on stage.
