Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 307: Chapter 304: The Welcome Party Begins

Time flew by, and before they knew it, a week had passed. During this period, Huo Sining had finished her calculus and English exams, and then took Madam Gu and Little Bun around various attractions in S City before finally putting them on a plane.

For the second round of auditions, the teachers of the literature and art clubs had chosen the school’s indoor basketball court as the venue.

Moreover, to maintain the secrecy of the acts, the basketball court was cleared out during the second round of auditions. Even the process of selecting the programs only allowed for one act to be present in the arena at a time.

As a result, everyone was only aware of their own performance and had no idea what programs were presented by participants from other departments.

For Huo Sining, of course, this was good news. Although she was confident that her act would be chosen, magic inherently relies on its novelty, and exposing it beforehand would have taken away its charm.

As expected, when Huo Sining finished her performance, the judges’ eyes were all wide with amazement.

Even the most renowned magicians in the world leave traces in their magic, but Huo Sining’s magic act could truly be described as seamless.

The judges had all seen videos of Huo Sining’s close-up magic on the campus forum, but to their surprise, during the second round of auditions, she didn’t repeat the close-up magic she had done before. Instead, she switched to stage magic, and the effect was evidently more astonishing than that of the close-up tricks.

Such a performance, perhaps even on a world-class stage, would be worthy, right?! The judges only had one thought in their hearts: Damn, is there really such an incredible magician among this year’s freshmen?! Where did this person come from? It’s monstrous!

As time raced by, Christmas was approaching. Snow was rare in S City’s winter, but with Christmas coming, street vendors started organizing various Christmas activities, and slowly the atmosphere of winter settled in.

After Huo Sining passed the second round, the school’s literature and art clubs began to organize rehearsals for the selected programs from each department.

However, due to the special and secret nature of Huo Sining’s act, she applied to the club teachers for exemption from the rehearsals.

The teachers had seen Huo Sining’s act and knew she was proficient in magic, so there was no worry of any mishap.

Moreover, they agreed with her request, recognizing the hassle of moving her props around as genuinely troublesome.

A few days after Christmas, having finished the last exam for the College of Biology, it was time for the New Year’s Eve gala.

On the last evening of 2007, at half-past seven, S University’s New Year’s Eve gala officially commenced. A large stage had been constructed at the central position of the track and field stadium, and the expensive lighting and sound equipment rented from outside were all set.

Not just that, the student council had also garnered sponsorships from numerous companies in S City. Promotional activities were interspersed throughout the performances, and the school had even invited reporters from S City Morning Post and S City Cable TV Station to oversee the event and shoot segments for their news programs.

When they learned that Huo Sining was participating in the New Year’s Eve gala, with Su Qingqing drumming up publicity, even Master Huang and his daughter Huang Hongying were eager to watch the show, not to mention Su Jinyuan and Ouyang Jun who were also keen to join the excitement.

What really shocked everyone, however, was that Huo Sining had brought along her Tibetan Mastiff, Heitan, to the school.

”Why did you bring Heitan too?” Su Qingqing was astonished when she saw Huo Sining drive her BMW into the school and found Heitan pitifully caged in the back seat, on the road behind the track and field stadium.

Huo Sining also felt somewhat embarrassed, as Heitan was usually well-behaved at home, but as soon as it left the house, it became as unruly as a wild horse freed from its reins. If it weren’t for Huo Sining holding it back, it would have bolted long ago.

Being a ferocious Tibetan Mastiff, Huo Sining feared that the creature would get stimulated and start biting people, so he had no choice but to keep Heitan locked in a cage.

”This fellow is a magic trick prop, we’ll need it tonight,” Huo Sining explained.

Without lions or tigers, Heitan had to fill in. Now that it had grown quite a bit larger, its appearance did convey a rather imposing sense of a fierce wild beast.

Heitan stood in the cage with a look of gloom, a purebred Tibetan Mastiff reduced to serving as a prop for magic tricks. If word got out in the Mastiff community, it would be a huge loss of face for the dog.

With five minutes left until the start of the evening party, the sky had long darkened. Under the organization of the student union and the class advisors, the first-year students had already filled the field, each class bringing their own stools.

Bored sophomores and juniors seeking entertainment had also come in significant numbers. Of course, Huo Sining was unaware that the majority of these upperclassmen had come in admiration after watching the close-up magic videos on the campus forum.

The venue was noisy; the students, full of youthful energy, were naturally unrestrained until the stage curtain was drawn back, and the bustling noise gradually subsided.

Colorful lights shone upon the stage as four hosts dressed in formal attire emerged from behind the curtains on either side, two male hosts tall and handsome, and the female hosts in gorgeous gowns mesmerized many of the male students below, who unconsciously swallowed their saliva.

”Respected guests, leaders, and dear students, good evening to everyone!”

The applause erupted, and Huo Sining looked up to see the female host standing on the stage, causing a moment of surprise.

”Huh?”

Hearing Huo Sining’s voice, Su Qingqing leaned in: ”What’s wrong?”

Huo Sining shook his head: ”Nothing.”

Du Yanlin actually became a host?! Was that woman planning some mischief again?

Huo Sining instinctively frowned. It wasn’t that she was paranoid or had a tendency to think ill of others, but given that woman’s dog-like tenacity in never letting go once she bit down, such an incident was very likely to occur.

It’s often said that one shouldn’t harbor the intention to harm others, but one must also guard against the possibility of being harmed. Huo Sining felt she needed to be cautious and not let Du Yanlin get the better of her.

Indeed, Huo Sining’s hunch was correct. After Du Yanlin had struggled through numerous rounds to be elected as the host of the orientation party, her heart was full of pride. But after seeing on the forum that Huo Sining had caused an uproar at S University with just a close-up magic trick and became a celebrity overnight, how could she contain herself?

Why did she, who had worked so hard, achieve nothing, while Huo Sining had money, power, houses, cars, and even fame for some lousy magic trick?

Thinking back to the day in Luwan District when she was forced to apologize to Huo Sining, Du Yanlin’s expression twisted, her face became hideous with intense madness and resentment flashing in her eyes.
