Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 333: Chapter 329: Throw Them All into the River

But if Huo Sining hadn’t jumped into the river, how would these traces be explained?

Could it be...

Gu Xu’s expression darkened immediately, his once joyful and relieved heart sank in an instant.

If Huo Sining hadn’t escaped but had been torn up by these kidnappers, what then?

What about the pepper spray, the escape, could it all be just an act staged by the kidnappers themselves?

Gu Xu’s breath hitched, the more he thought about it, the more frightened he became, and suddenly turned back, glaring viciously at those thugs, and without another word, lunged forward to grab the leader of the thugs and beat him up.

Unexpectedly, just at this moment, the thug’s phone suddenly rang; seeing the name Kadel appear on the caller ID, he was taken aback.

Seeing the thug’s expression change, Gu Xu immediately said in a cold voice, ”Answer it!”

The thug shakily picked up the phone and answered, ”Hello.”

”Hello, Boss!” The person on the other end was shivering even more, ”Where are you guys? Come rescue me.”

The thug’s expression collapsed, and he instinctively looked up at Gu Xu while cursing inwardly.

Naturally, Gu Xu could tell that the person on the phone was the thug’s accomplice. He thought Huo Sining hadn’t escaped at all and was still in the hands of the thugs, which made him even more angry, ”Ask him where he is!”

The thug also assumed Huo Sining was taken away by Kadel and the others. Hearing Gu Xu’s command, he asked reflexively:

”Where are you guys, how come you just disappeared, couldn’t reach you on your phones, where is the hostage, where have you taken her, what in the world are you guys up to?!”

Kadel, with indescribable suffering, clutching a piece of driftwood while drifting downstream, said shakily:

”I have no idea, that woman had pepper spray, I was trying to call you while running, but then she caught up with me, and the next second I was in the river, I’m floating here right now, Boss, you’ve got to come save me!”

The thug made it very clear, but to the people on the shore, it was all a jumble, incomprehensible, with the only useful clue being that the thug was in the river.

Without another word, Gu Xu snatched the phone, and with no time to lose, he pressed further, ”The river is so long, how do we find you, where exactly are you floating?!”

Kadel, frozen and shivering, failed to notice the change in the person on the phone. He looked around uncertainly and said, ”Seems like I’m upstream on Moyu River, I also--”

Before he could finish, the call was rudely disconnected on the other end.

”We go upstream!” Gu Xu threw the phone back to the thug and, without another word, took Yu Cheng and a few others and ran upstream.

As for the thug leader, he had a completely bewildered expression, clueless about what was happening.

Huo Sining, oblivious that people on the shore were frantically searching for her, had submerged into Moyu River and continued upstream, soon discovering quite a few rough Hetian jade materials.

Azure Pearl’s ability to appraise was no ordinary feat; submerged in water, she could fully discern which rough pieces contained jade, and could even gauge the value of the Hetian Jade inside based on the brightness of the faint glow emitted by Azure Pearl.

With Space at her disposal, retrieving these jade roughs was effortless, only needing to reach out with her hands towards the surface of the stones to directly store them in her storage ring. Hence, Huo Sining collected the Hetian Jade with great joy, completely content and without a single thought of returning home.

It wasn’t until she arrived at a bend in the river upstream that she remembered the three thugs she had stashed inside her ring’s Space, after collecting a batch of stones. The Space was now significantly filled with roughs, leaving Huo Sining wishing she hadn’t given up so much room for those three.

Even though time stood still inside the storage ring and those three thugs were entirely unaware and unaffected, Huo Sining still felt somewhat reluctant to share the Space with them. After some thought, she decided that a little retribution was in order.

Moved by a mischievous impulse, she found three pieces of deadwood, and at different intervals, teleported each man out so that they ended up lying on the logs, drifting down the river’s current.

The three thugs had no idea what had happened. One second they were in a cave, and the next they were floating in the river. As the waters rushed eastward, they were soaked through and had to endure the cold, wet winds along with being carried downstream by the river, which turned them ashen-faced with fear.

Before entering the Space, Kadel had intended to call his boss to tip him off, and his phone wasn’t taken away by Huo Sining, hence the call was made, leading to the aforementioned scene of him phoning the gang leader.

Unfortunately, he himself had no clue what was going on, so naturally, the others were also baffled, as confused as a monk facing an enigma.

As Gu Xu and his group moved upstream, they indeed did not go far before they saw someone sitting on a piece of driftwood in the middle of the river, struggling to paddle towards the shore.

Too bad his strength was too slight against the fast-moving current; he could only be carried farther and farther away by the river.

Gu Xu ordered his men to pull the thug out of the water, saving his life and inciting a wave of relief, until the next second a black pistol was pressed against his temple, ”Where is the woman you guys kidnapped?!”

Pale with fright, the thug pleaded, ”Spare me, officer... I... I don’t know where that woman went; she freed herself from the ropes. I tried to catch her, but somehow, in the blink of an eye, I ended up here in the river...”

”Are you Kadel?” Gu Xu snorted coldly, questioning him.

The thug waved his hands and shook his head, ”I’m not Kadel, I’m Ackton; Kadel is with me, but I haven’t seen him.”

Gu Xu was startled and frowned.

Just then, Yu Cheng caught a glimpse of another person floating downstream and quickly shouted, ”Captain, there’s another one over there!”

Gu Xu’s hand holding the gun paused, and he pointed at the thug, ”See if that’s one of your men!”

The thug hurriedly glanced over towards the river and upon seeing the figure, his eyes widened in shock, ”Yes, that’s Nigemaiti; how did he end up in the river too? What the hell is going on?!”

That wasn’t Kadel either?

Gu Xu and Yu Cheng exchanged glances. Yu Cheng coughed and said, ”There were four people involved in the kidnapping. Looking at the situation, aside from the one sprayed with pepper spray, the other three have all ended up in the river.”

It was hard to say which fate was worse, being thrown into the river or being sprayed with pepper spray; neither experience was particularly delightful.

But Yu Cheng’s words were clear—other than the kidnapped victim, there seemed to be no one else capable of doing such a thing.

Yet what an ordinary person could do was a mystery; the hostage was a woman, how on earth did she manage to get these three grown men into the river upstream?
