My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2344: Chapter 2177: Caught Off Guard

Life is like a series of challenges, leaving you no time to defend.

”Since our son has already acknowledged his mistake, why do we keep talking about him like this? Actually, you don’t know, children also have self-esteem, and sometimes their self-esteem is even more precious than that of most adults. In his eyes, no one can trample on his self-esteem, not even us as parents. If we do, it’s akin to humiliating him. Are you willing to humiliate your own son? He’s our biological child. Aren’t we embarrassing ourselves by doing this?” Ran Zhihan said to Zhang Yichen.

Zhang Yichen knew his wife was pleading for their son, but he couldn’t let the matter slide easily. When a mistake is made, one must learn to bear responsibility. If one only accepts mistakes without ever being responsible, what kind of hero is that? If that’s the case, what’s the point of living like this in the world?

”I know you said this to me today to plead for our son, but I must tell you clearly, when one parent is disciplining their child, the other should absolutely not shield them. Otherwise, it will make the child feel that no matter what mistake they make or what punishment they endure, the other parent who loves them the most will always defend them. Actually, it’s not that I don’t love him, it’s just that my way of loving him is different from yours. I can’t always spoil him selflessly like you, as that would turn into indulgence. Would you really want to watch our son slowly stray off the right path in life? I believe no one wants to see that result. Who doesn’t hope for their son to grow up to be successful, live openly and honestly, and lead a fulfilling life? Why must we stain his life’s record with a mark of darkness? Does that really illuminate our hearts? Actually, even if we don’t mind, others will see him as someone with a record, and think he’s not entirely innocent, and they’ll look down on him.”

Ran Zhihan understood that her husband was speaking with consideration, and maybe she had indeed gone too far. Why did she treat her child this way? Sometimes, is her love really love? Is it truly for his good? Perhaps not. Deep down, she also understood that in life, everyone inevitably makes mistakes, but the scariest thing is to keep making the same mistakes despite knowing they’re wrong. As long as mistakes are made, they should be corrected, and then there’s no problem, but continuously making mistakes proves that it’s not that simple, and shows that the person never truly intended to repent, believing that they never make the gravest mistakes.

”Dear, I know I shouldn’t have intervened when you were disciplining the child today, and I understand you’re doing this for my good. You can’t stand our son bullying me, the mother. I also know how much you love me. But after all, he is my biological son too. How could I want him to stray off the right path? I also want him to happily live out his life. In life, to live happily as you wish is truly not easy. No one has a smooth journey. Everyone has faced big challenges, unpredictable waves, unforgettable to this day in my heart. I don’t want my son to go through the pain we’ve been through, those are really hard to endure, hard to bear...”

”I know you’re doing this for the good of the child, but you’re stuck in a misconception you haven’t even gotten out of. How can you expect to teach the child about it?”

Ran Zhihan looked at Zhang Yichen with a puzzled expression. Did he really know what this misconception was that kept him, a grown adult, stuck? It’s so absurd.

”That misconception is that you believe everything you’re doing is for the child’s good, but you haven’t thought about the fact that what we went through is our most cherished memory. Despite the winds and storms, we walked through it hand in hand. With so many things to experience, there’s no avoiding them. Our son may face the same things we did, or maybe he won’t, but those experiences are for him to live through himself to understand the bittersweet. We cannot selfishly deny him the chance to experience life. If we do, are we really fit to be his parents? Wouldn’t that cut off the path of his life?”

After listening to Zhang Yichen, Ran Zhihan realized that this was indeed the case. No wonder she was stuck in a misconception. She thought by telling her son everything, he wouldn’t have to endure those hardships on the journey of growing up and could pass through childhood smoothly without any pain. This was the greatest help a mother could give, but she hadn’t considered that perhaps doing so, it actually harmed him by denying him the chance to experience childhood.

”I understand now; it was my own misconception holding me back that made my son turn into what he is. I think you’re right. Everyone’s life journey is different. Who said that because we experienced those things, my son will absolutely go through them again? He’s not a blockhead, how could he knowingly make the same mistakes? I just want my son to clearly know that he is the one I, as his mother, love the most. Perhaps, they will live more gloriously than I did, not being someone who constantly struggles. Even if he bears the title of a child born of a ’commoner girl and a wealthy young man,’ he at least won’t be labeled as a commoner’s son anymore, allowing him a happier life without experiencing the same sorrow and pain I endured, which is already my greatest comfort. One shouldn’t be too greedy, I understand this truth!”

Time is the most unpredictable thing, making life the happiest!
