My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2317: Chapter 2150: Voices of Dissent

Gossip really is a terrible thing. Clearly something very joyful has become the most painful thing.

Xia Jing never expected her husband would so calmly choose to let her leave and go far away this time. He also understood that each of her requests felt like an impossible task to him. Although she said she never wanted to have anything to do with this man again, in her heart she silently hoped for a reunion, hoping for the day she could reconnect with the man she once loved. She would never forget him. He claimed to have forgotten her long ago, but in truth, she was just unwilling to face her own feelings. How could one allow their inner wounds to be salted over and over again by others?

Zhang Zhentian forced a slight smile from his lips as he faced his wife. He knew that this might be the last time he would ever see her in this lifetime, but he did not regret it. In fact, he felt it was a good outcome. All that had happened was due to his own actions, and now everything was destined to end because of him.

Xia Jing saw that forced smile her husband could barely muster. Her heart ached. No matter what, he was the man she once loved most, but today it had come to this. How could her heart not ache? Although everything wasn’t largely her fault, she was not entirely without blame.

”You really don’t need to waste your time on me anymore. You can find a woman more worthy of your love, someone better than me. Unlike me, every single thing I do only brings you sorrow. I’ve caused you pain for so long; you deserve to live your own happy life and be joyful. Don’t waste your time on me, I’m not worth it.”

”Do you still care about me deep down? You just don’t know how to talk to me, how to continue sharing a life together. Once, you felt that I hurt you, so you thought we weren’t suitable to be together. But I want to know if I still have a place in your heart. I just need one sincere sentence, please don’t make it difficult for me, okay? I beg you!”

”Yes, you have a place in my heart. How could I forget you just like that? You’ve been part of my life for more than ten years, and my love for you... I know my actions can’t be taken back, just like spilled water. Everyone knows we’ve ended up like this, so let’s not make things hard for each other. You should have the happy life you deserve, and I should wander towards the horizon I want. It may be challenging and painful, but I still want to take on the challenge. I don’t want to waste my entire life here.”

No matter what you’ve done or said, I’ve long since stopped blaming you. I forgave you, but I didn’t know how to tell you. I felt that if I told you these things in advance, then I’d lose my dignity. I’ve always been a proud woman, even if it means hurting the one I love the most. You’ve always been embedded deep within my heart, never leaving, but I just don’t know how to face you.”

”Hearing this genuine word from you moves me deeply. Thank you for telling me these things. When traveling outside, you must be careful. Don’t easily trust strangers. You’re such a naive woman, easily believing whatever others say and prone to deception, so you must always be wary. Don’t trust anyone except me. I’m afraid they’ll deceive you, make you sad and upset, and I cannot immediately be by your side.”

All these situations have led to the current outcome because of me, so I must take full responsibility. I’m giving you up now, letting you leave here because I hope you realize I still love you. My love for you is no less than before; in fact, I love you even more because you’ve given me such a wonderful life. Although you won’t be by my side to accompany me in the future, I’m still grateful to you. Thank you for the many years of joyous times.

I’ll say it once more. If you’re ever tired from wandering and decide to come home, my place is wherever you are. Wherever I am is always your home. I will wait calmly and steadily for your return. I’ll no longer insist on forcing you or making it hard for you. I’ll silently support every decision you make, watch as you rely on your own efforts to accomplish everything you want. When you achieve all your goals, I will quietly be proud of you, for you are my wife, my wife for life, and no one can change that fact. Perhaps I am really stubborn sometimes, but please believe that I truly love you...”

Xia Jing knew how incredibly difficult it was for Zhang Zhentian to say these words. Today, his willingness to say them proved that he had truly come to terms, willing to give her a path to explore the horizons she desired alone. Should she really feel happy? Why does she feel a tinge of sadness now—because she still can’t forget him?

”Since you say so, I won’t say anything else either. I just wish you to live happily the way you want during this time. Remember to live well. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll no longer want to wander outside and wish to come back to you. I hope you won’t despise me then...”

The two people who once loved each other most, eventually ended up on this path somehow. No one anticipated it would end up this way. The love between them, ultimately shattered due to mutual distrust, ended in the demise of their marriage. Had they loved each other even a bit more at the outset, would things not have turned out so complicated? They could have chosen not to venture apart, could have continued holding onto each other for a lifetime, but in the end, they could only choose separation. To pursue a life of happiness that no longer included the other.

Even Elder Zhang, upon hearing their conversation, sighed with relief. This outcome, neither good nor bad, might eventually help them cultivate mutual trust. After all, maybe it’s just a good thing. He could finally feel at ease.

Life is always full of surprises, leaving people incessantly amazed.
