My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2320: Chapter 2153: Betrayed the Promise

We gave up so much to gain something else, but still returned to living alone.

Early the next morning, Zhang Yichen rushed to his son’s bedroom to find his wife. Many things can be less troublesome if clearly articulated, but why was he so stubbornly proud, unwilling to apologize even under threat of death? If he apologized to his wife this time, surely she’d be deeply moved. He had never apologized before; this would be his first exception.

Yet he didn’t know that this time his wife wouldn’t accept his apology. The mistake clearly wasn’t hers, and yet as her husband, he had placed all the blame on her. How could he expect her to forgive him so easily?

Zhang Yichen knocked on his son’s bedroom door.

Zhang Ni groggily opened his eyes. When he opened the door and saw his father standing there with a menacing expression, he was a bit scared.

When had his father ever been so fierce to him? Why had he never seen him like this before?

”Dad, it’s just past 5 o’clock. Why are you in such a hurry? Knocking on the door first thing in the morning when I still want to sleep!”

”Alright, don’t pretend. Let me ask you, is your mother in this room? She didn’t come back to sleep last night. She must be here with you, so move aside. I want to check, I need to talk to her. Don’t block my way, get up, it’s not early anymore. If she’s asleep, I’ll wake her up, and if you want to sleep again, I’ll let you later. You don’t have to go to training today, okay?”

Zhang Ni was elated to hear he didn’t have to go to training, and quickly moved aside. He let his father in, thinking his mother wasn’t there. But when he followed his father into his room, he found that his mother was indeed there. When did she come in? What time did she arrive last night? Why didn’t he know anything?

”It’s already late, get up. I need to talk to you!”

Ran Zhihan opened her eyes and rubbed them. She saw her husband standing in front of her, and her heart nearly skipped a beat. When did he come here? Usually, he never sought her out. What was happening today? Did the sun rise from the west, or was something big about to happen?

”Why are you here? I remember you never came to find me before. I didn’t expect you to break the rule today. So, what’s up? Why are you looking for me?”

”Do you think this is a suitable place to talk? Shouldn’t we go outside and clarify things clearly? Our child is here, and there are things that shouldn’t be said in front of him. Nothing good comes from making things ugly between us. Just come outside and talk to me, it won’t kill you. I’m already stepping down to find you, so let’s go. We won’t return here, come out with me and talk properly!”

Ran Zhihan had no choice; she didn’t want to risk her husband exposing unpleasant truths in front of their child. She feared her husband wouldn’t care about losing face, revealing everything before their child. So, she had to follow her husband out and clarify things, to avoid being repeatedly blackmailed in the future. She couldn’t bear being coerced and used over and over.

”Fine, let’s go outside and discuss this. Ideally, we can settle the matter today and not use this as a threat against me again. It’s unnecessary!”

Although Zhang Yichen found his wife’s attitude difficult to accept, he still followed her outside. He knew some matters shouldn’t be discussed in front of their child because it wouldn’t be beneficial for anyone, only making their child uncomfortable. For their child’s sake, sacrifices needed to be made. The issue wasn’t that serious; why discuss it in front of the child when it could be clarified outside?

”Okay, we’re outside now. Say what you want to say.”

”I came to see you today to say sorry. That matter was my fault. I was too self-centered without considering your feelings. I hope you can be magnanimous and forgive my mistake. I see no need for us to sleep in separate rooms, as it wouldn’t be a dignified scenario for anyone in the family. I hope you’ll reconsider this seriously.”

”Do you still think this is about my bed even now? Why is it that whenever you make a mistake, you’re oblivious to whose fault it is, always expecting me to take the blame? Why should I repeatedly tolerate you when you behave so badly again and again? In your eyes, do I mean so little to you that you didn’t notice I was breaking the rule this time for you? In your eyes, am I nothing at all?

Seeing you come to find me, I was hopeful for change. But after a whole night, you’re still the same, never considering what I actually want. You assume that what you can give is what I desire. But I don’t want those things—your money, your power, your status, none of them. I just want a stable life...”

”Alright, stop pretending to be so noble. Do you sincerely believe you can live without me? Everything you use is provided by me—the designer bags, clothes, and shoes—what didn’t I pay for? Can you honestly say you’ve never had a selfish thought? Did you never consider enjoying the wealth with me forever? Don’t think everyone in the world buys into your noble act, because those people only show they’re blind to the truth.

I once believed in you, but now I won’t foolishly trust everything about you. That would be too exhausting for me!”

The stars twinkle because of you, and everything unknowingly begins to change.
