My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2339: Chapter 2172: Unable to Change

Many things are beyond one’s control to change, but they are also things one still wants to hold onto firmly!

The moment Zhang Yichen walked out of the hospital room, Ran Zhihan cried. How could she bear it? She knew how much she loved this man, but when necessary, she had to make a choice. If she continued to entangle with him, perhaps in the end, it was not only them who would get hurt, but possibly many more people. That seemed too cruel for her, and she couldn’t do it.

Li Jiayuan watched as Zhang Yichen walked out of the room. She was a bit curious; how did the conversation go between the two of them? Could they have already sorted things out?

Li Jiayuan asked Zhang Yichen, ”How did your talk go? Did Zhihan agree to continue being with you?”

Li Jiayuan was a little hopeful, waiting for Zhang Yichen to give her a satisfactory answer, but what Zhang Yichen said was hard for her to believe.

”Auntie, it’s no use. She’s already made up her mind not to be with me. No matter what I say, it’s pointless. Since she’s decided to leave me, I can only let go. All of this stems from my mother. Even if she seems to have forgiven my mom, in her heart, there’s still a shadow. I should have realized sooner; how could she easily forgive my mother? The harm my mom brought to her family isn’t something a few words can make up for. Maybe only by really leaving can she truly forget the damage my mom caused her and start a new life,” Zhang Yichen said, tears welling up in his eyes.

”Yichen, are you really going to give up so easily? She’s a good girl. If you give up like this, it won’t be easy to find someone like her again. Listen to your aunt and go talk to her properly. I believe she’ll understand...”

”Understand? Things have already come to this point, how can she understand now? Hasn’t she been understanding of my mother before? Think about how many hurtful things my mother has done to her, to her parents. Has she ever complained? She sacrificed so much for her parents, to be with me. Being with me brought her so much pain. My mother hurt her time and again, forcing her to leave my side. Do you know how hard it is for her to have stayed by my side until now? How can I, for my own selfish reasons, make her suffer a lifetime of pain? I’m not that kind of heartless man. I just want the woman I love to live happily, and that’s more important than anything to me.”

”Yichen, I know you are a good child, but are you really going to give up years of feelings because of your mother’s actions? Can you bear it? Can you stand it?” Li Jiayuan couldn’t believe that Zhang Yichen could so easily abandon years of affection. She couldn’t believe that someone’s feelings could be so fragile.

”Auntie, I know what you want to say. Maybe you think our feelings can’t withstand any setbacks, but in my eyes, our love has gone through countless hardships to be together. Even so, it can’t avoid my mother’s harm. The hurt she causes isn’t just pain, and if it were from ordinary people, we could accept it because they don’t know us. But she’s my own mother. Why would my own mother destroy my marriage? Is my happiness in her eyes really less important than her interests? I’ve never hated anyone this much, nor have I ever loathed anyone this much. Today, I truly hate her for hurting the girl I love once again, for disregarding my lifelong happiness time and time again. I can forgive her repeatedly hurting me, forgive her abandonment, forgive everything she’s caused before. But I can’t bear to watch her hurt the woman I love while I’m powerless to do anything. Do you know? When I saw the knife going toward Zhihan, I wanted so badly to shield her from it, but there wasn’t enough time. Before I could act, I saw blood flow from the chest of the woman I love, staining her whole white shirt red. Do you know the concept of that? That blood sprayed out like water from a faucet, flowing freely. The scene was so shocking that I still shudder at the thought. I’d never imagined I’d see such blood flow from a chest. This was the first time in my life seeing such a bloody scene. Do you know? These things weren’t caused by someone else but by my own mother. How can I accept that? What’s more, my father was involved in this from the beginning. I had forgiven him and brought him back to the Zhang Family. Why isn’t that enough for him? Do they really need to completely drive away the girl I love to be satisfied?”

As Zhang Yichen spoke, he cried. His heart ached. How much he wished he could get his parents’ love, their blessings, while being with the girl he loves. But why is it so hard? When he finally convinced the one he loves to be with him, his parents disrupted it again and again. She chose to forgive. He listened to her advice and forgave the parents who had abandoned him for years. But why did it result in him lying in a hospital bed? He’s unwilling, unhappy. Every time he showed goodwill, his parents took it for granted, treating him with contempt. He was unwilling. Being proud, he had to endure the humiliation, all for his beloved woman, having to bow before his own parents repeatedly. He’s unwilling. Why do so many problems have to fall on him alone? Why did her parents hurt his beloved girl so deeply for their own freedom, for their interests? Any man would stand up for his beloved woman, so why wouldn’t he at just a little over twenty, a man who carries mountains? He thrives in business, so why should he humble himself before his love like this? He pleaded more than once for his beloved to stay, but why isn’t there a result? Why in the end is he met with endless harm? His heart is truly unwilling. Watching his beloved lying on a hospital bed, unable to move, hurts his heart. But what can he do? He knows it’s all brought by his mother, and as a son, he can only choose to accept and silently endure the harm. He can’t resist. Even if he did, it wouldn’t help. He knows if he stands up and resists his mother, it would only bring more and more harm to his beloved. So he decides maybe it’s best to let his mother clear things up thoroughly.

Joyful days have made him lose his mind over and over again.
