My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2336: Chapter 2169: What Has Life Really Given Me

I kept thinking that after so much time had passed, you would remember to come back to me, but what I waited for again and again was nothing but disappointment.

Xiao Wei somehow found out that ever since his sister and brother‑in‑law went back home, his parents no longer welcomed him. Even though their own biological son had been so deeply affectionate to them at the hospital, once they returned home they still gave him the cold shoulder.

That made it almost unbelievable to him—that person who had stood in front of him and cried so openly and sincerely.

How could he go home and suddenly treat his parents like this?

He really didn’t understand. Was this still the nephew he knew?

He really wanted to go ask his sister and brother‑in‑law what was going on. If things were going to end up like this after going home, then what was the point of going back? With a result like this, are they actually happy?

In fact, as far as Xia Jing was concerned, he was still very happy with this outcome.

After all, he had finally gotten what he’d wished for—returning to his family’s side, staying close to his son. That already exceeded all his expectations; how could he still be greedy for more?

Only someone who has truly lost people will understand how serious the mistakes they committed really were; only someone who has lost will know just how important those people and things they lost once were.

Li Jiayuan knew Xiao Wei was feeling awful inside. That was his sister, after all. Even if they weren’t related by blood, how could so many years of sibling bond simply be forgotten?

”Xiao Wei, do you have any idea what’s in Elder Sister Xia Jing’s heart?

She’s probably smiling even in her dreams right now!

She waited and hoped for so many years and finally went back home. No matter what the outcome is after her return, she will be happy—that’s the home she has yearned for day and night for decades!

It was just because of that wrong‑headed thought back then that she ended up like this. We have no way to help her, and even less ability to keep her from getting hurt.

Xiao Wei, sometimes with some things you really have to look forward. If her roots are there, then what do you think you can gain by clinging on like this? You’ve never truly cared what kind of hurt your family might have to bear. Maybe you feel a momentary sense of relief, but in the end the hurt she suffers will be even greater than before. You should try to stand in her shoes and think about what she has to bear. The outcome shouldn’t be determined only by what you want, while you ignore the safety and well‑being of others!

I know you worry about your sister, and how could I not worry about her? After all, she and I have become good friends. No matter what, she’s my closest girlfriend. How could I possibly cast aside everything about her—neither care, nor ask, nor show concern?

I just don’t know how to say certain things to her, and if I say them, whether she will end up in that ugly situation again—whether she’ll be kicked out of the house just like before.

As long as we can quietly live on like we used to, without disturbing their lives with each other, maybe with time too many of the grudges between them will eventually dissipate. But if because of our involvement their family relationships become even more strained and disharmonious, wouldn’t that be a sin weighing on our hearts?”

Xiao Wei knew his wife cared about his sister as much as he did, cared about their whole family’s life. But he felt his wife was really right this time. Whatever his relationship with his sister, he shouldn’t interfere. Once he started asking questions, the nature of things would change, and it wouldn’t be easy to clean up afterward. If his involvement ended up causing his sister even more serious harm, wouldn’t that make his own guilt even greater?

”You’re right. I shouldn’t meddle or ask about these things, much less get involved. Their family matters should be resolved by themselves. If my interference really turned them into what they are now, then even if I jumped into the Yellow River I’d never be able to wash it clean. I only wanted to give them a hand—what if I ended up harming them instead!

Maybe what we really should do is just live our own lives quietly, without intervening in their relationships. Then maybe, as time passes, the ones who were hurt before will become different from who they used to be. But if the mistakes we’ve made end up dealing an even heavier blow to them, what are we supposed to do then?

These years she really has lived the way you said, not easily at all. Even though she’s suffering and exhausted now that she’s back home, even though it’s painful, deep inside it’s sweet to her. She has probably never had such a happy, carefree life as she does now. In her eyes, she doesn’t want much anymore. As long as she can live peacefully, as long as she can be at home and stay near her family, she feels she’s blessed!

Sometimes I really don’t understand what my sister is thinking, what kind of life she considers the one she wants. But when I see her living so happily and joyfully, I can’t help but feel a bit moved. No matter what, she has relied on her own effort to make it to today. She has walked each step with such difficulty, never relying on anyone’s charity. She is using her actions to declare to the whole world that she can make it to the end on her own strength—even though she’s a woman!”

Li Jiayuan couldn’t help but feel a little emotional about Xia Jing’s life. From the first day she met her, she knew this woman was not simple. Her life was not smooth, much less easy. She had walked step by step to where she is now, yet Jiayuan had never really seen her living with genuine joy and carefree happiness.

”Maybe the kind of life none of us understands is actually the life she most wants to live. Seeing her suffer like this, do you think it really feels good to us? But watching her so happy, so joyful, having let go of all the pain and worries—in her heart, as long as she can live happily, live joyfully, that is happiness. So why do we need to interfere in so many of her affairs?

She just went through a brush with death. For her, what she wants now is only to cherish the time she has left.

Because she now understands that time is hard‑won, and to go on living peacefully is truly not easy. If she doesn’t put in the effort, then what right does she have to keep living on? What will the result be in the end? No one knows. The road of life is something you feel out step by step on your own. It’s not that from the very beginning someone lays out a complete path for you, so you can smoothly and effortlessly clear every hurdle!

Xiao Wei, we’re husband and wife, but there are some things we really can’t interfere in. Interfering in other people’s lives will only bring disaster down on ourselves. I hope you’ll think this through carefully!”

What has life actually given me, that turned me into who I am now.
