My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2340: Chapter 2173: Once Reluctant, Now Indifferent

”Child, have you ever felt reluctant to part with your parents?”

Zhang Zhentian heard Xia Jing say these words, and at that moment, he felt that his wife had suddenly become understanding. He had always hoped that one day he could be loved by his wife and that his wife could consider his difficulties from his perspective. Unexpectedly, this day had come so suddenly, but the arrival of this day meant that his wife was going to leave him. How could he bear this? How could he let his wife leave alone? How he wanted to leave together with his wife; after all these years of marriage, how could they just part ways and say they won’t live together anymore?

Maybe Xia Jing saw through Zhang Zhentian’s thoughts; she smiled slightly and said softly to Zhang Zhentian, ”Zhentian, you don’t need to feel reluctant about me. It’s not like I won’t come back after I leave. We will meet again in the future. I will just be away for a while, giving our son some space to think about whether he wants me to be by his side. If, after some time has passed, he still doesn’t want this mother to appear before him, then I can settle abroad. When you miss me, you can bring Dad to visit me overseas. I know what you’re thinking; you don’t have to worry about me. You know, I’m a strong woman. Staying at home for too long makes me uncomfortable. Instead of leaving later, it’s better that I go out now and come back after exploring. Don’t you think?”

Zhang Zhentian knew that Xia Jing was saying these words to comfort him. Although these words made him feel uncomfortable, seeing Xia Jing’s full smile, he couldn’t say anything. After hesitating for a while, he finally decided to leave with Xia Jing.

”No matter what you say, I want to leave with you. We’ve spent over a decade together; you can’t leave me, and I can’t leave you. There’s a regret if either of us isn’t in the other’s life. We promised to walk together in life, no matter how long or short the journey is. You said we’d walk hand in hand, so how can you just leave me here and go?” Zhang Zhentian said to Xia Jing.

”To be honest, hearing those words from you makes me really happy. The luckiest thing in my life is being with you. But don’t act on impulse. Since you’ve come back, don’t choose to leave with me again. Didn’t you see Dad’s expectant eyes? Although he sometimes says things about you, he has a sharp tongue but a soft heart. I can see from his eyes how much he desires for you to stay. He wants his son to be by his side during his old age. But if you leave again because of me, how heartbroken would he be? You are his biological son; he raised you for over twenty years. No matter how dissatisfied he is with you, you are still his son. He wouldn’t do anything harmful to you. I know you’ve always held a grudge about being kicked out of the Zhang Family by him, but even I, as his daughter-in-law, have let it go. Why can’t you, his biological son, let it go? He was compelled to do so; anyone wouldn’t feel good in that situation. Listen to me and stay here, not for anything else, just to fulfill my wish!”

Zhang Zhentian seemed to have already seen Xia Jing’s resolve to leave. He understood that Xia Jing’s decision couldn’t be easily changed. He knew he was destined to be separated from Xia Jing this time, and although his heart was filled with reluctance, he had no choice but to stay.

...

Xia Jing persuaded again and again, and finally, Zhang Zhentian agreed to stay, letting his wife leave on her own. ℯℯ𝘭.

”Alright, I agree to stay here, but you must promise me that when you’re abroad, you’ll live well, don’t just go out without reason, be careful crossing the street, follow traffic rules, wait for me to come to find you, don’t leave with someone else. You should know that I’m staying here for you; otherwise, I wouldn’t stay. You should understand how much I can’t let go of you, even despite everything you’ve done to hurt me. But in my heart, I still love you. I will stay here to persuade our son; I’ll make sure he accepts you. You are his mother; how could he not accept you? If he still chooses not to accept you in the future, then I will leave here and pretend this son never existed in this life. I’ll stay here and care for Dad; you can be at ease. When you leave, I’ll see you off and hope you can take good care of yourself,” Zhang Zhentian said to Xia Jing, reluctant to let go.

”Zhentian, thank you for all your sacrifices for me, thank you for tolerating my willfulness time and again, thank you for your love. I will keep it in my heart. If he still chooses not to accept me later, I’ll wait for you in the United States. You know, in the United States, I still have my brother and sister; I can always visit them!” Xia Jing said to Zhang Zhentian.

Xia Jing didn’t explicitly say why she would visit her brother and sister’s homes, nor did she specify what she’d do there, but Zhang Zhentian understood what she meant. After all, being married for over a decade, they understood each other’s words somewhat. He understood that based on her words, going to Xiao Wei and Li Jiayuan’s house wasn’t to visit them but to trouble their son’s girlfriend. He couldn’t say much now. When he returned and saw how his son had moved away because of his arrival, even if Xia Jing wouldn’t trouble Ran Zhihan later, he certainly wouldn’t spare Ran Zhihan. Now, he and Xia Jing had a united front.

”Since you’ve already decided, I won’t stop you. I only hope that you stay safe while handling matters — don’t alert anyone who shouldn’t be disturbed. Here, I’ll cover for you; over there, handle your tasks with peace of mind. I’ll unconditionally support you because you’re my wife.”

Hearing these warm words from Zhang Zhentian, Xia Jing couldn’t help but cry. Zhang Zhentian embraced Xia Jing, providing her silent comfort.

They embraced affectionately, keeping each other’s warmth forever in their hearts, not letting this warmth fade away with the passing of time.

Even though a parting was imminent, Xia Jing’s heart was filled with happiness because her husband finally shared her viewpoint. This was a rare opportunity, and since they were united, she felt she must seize this opportunity and ensure success without allowing failure. This was the order she gave herself!

”Don’t worry. Once I’m in the United States, I’ll take good care of myself, but I’ll need you to handle things here for me, ensuring he doesn’t find out. Thank you in advance. If anything happens in the future, I’ll take full responsibility. You just claim you knew nothing...” After speaking, Xia Jing went upstairs to pack.

Zhang Zhentian knew Xia Jing said this for his own good. She didn’t want their son to misunderstand him again. But how could he let his wife suffer so much for him? When Zhang Yichen found out about everything, Zhang Zhentian stepped forward without hesitation to take responsibility together with Xia Jing!

”Grandpa, once I did feel reluctant about my parents, but now I’m indifferent!”
