My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2318: Chapter 2151: Once-Held Expectations

Life always leaves us unsure of what comes next.

Old Master Zhang was almost driven to madness by his foolish son. Why does he refuse to believe anything his father says? Is everything I’ve done truly wrong? Why won’t he think more deeply about the woman in front of him? Is it really that difficult to understand why she chose to be with him?

”I really never imagined that to this day you still haven’t figured it out, and you’ve been pretending in front of us all along. Are all those expressions of regret really just an act? Do I mean nothing to you? Is it truly that hard for you to tell me the truth from your heart? Why must you treat me this way? Since you’ve chosen to come back home, can’t you at least humor me a little?”

Xia Jing watched as his father and husband were about to break into a fight. He knew this was once again because of him. He couldn’t let such things happen over and over again. If things were truly like this, then what place did he have in this home? What meaning was there in continuing to live here?

”Dad, Zhentian, neither of you need to argue anymore. I know that ultimately, this was my mistake. No matter how deep your bond is, this issue is inextricable from me. It’s my fault, and I’ll take responsibility for all of it. Whatever consequences arise, let them fall on me, and I hope both of you will stop arguing over me. It’s really unnecessary.

We are all family. Isn’t it better to live together in harmony and happiness? We’ve finally returned home, so why should we continue to bicker? Wouldn’t it be better to create a harmonious family? Do we really have to lose this peace again?

Zhentian, can’t you speak more respectfully to your father? He’s been waiting for us all these years, and we’ve never had the chance to be filial by his side. Now that we’re back, saying such things to him, doesn’t it break his heart? As children, isn’t it our duty to be filial to our parents and care for our kids? If we come back only to bring grief to our family, then what’s the point of returning home? Is it just to hurt our own family and let our family suffer because of us again?

Dad, we’ve finally returned, and I hope that since everyone claims to be able to let go of the past, we shouldn’t dig into what happened. Living happily together as a family is the most important thing. If we keep arguing endlessly about unnecessary things, how can we continue to live happily together?”

Zhang Yichen felt his mother’s words made a lot of sense. The happy family he longed for was so close at hand. But why had it become like this at this very moment? Was it truly so simple just to want a simple family? Are my parents really incapable of doing anything but arguing? Why is it that as soon as we’re back, my father and grandfather have to start fighting? This kind of argument puts me in a tough spot, caught between the two. Is that really good?

”Grandpa, Mom’s words aren’t wrong. Isn’t it quite nice for all of us to live together happily? Why must we make the atmosphere between us so unpleasant and awkward? Everyone should have their own way of living. It’s just that the lifestyle we choose is different. People are never entirely alike. We should learn to accept one another’s differences while preserving our own strengths!

Now that Mom and Dad have returned, please don’t let anyone cause more arguments. All I want is a stable and peaceful home. Perhaps it’s overly simple for you, but I’ve yearned for it for so long. Please, show some pity and let me have a peaceful New Year. Over the years, I’ve never really had my parents by my side. Now that we’re finally back, do you really have the heart to see my long-desired happy family destroyed again?”

Zhang Zhentian, hearing these words, couldn’t bring himself to keep clashing with his father. Besides, his wife has already made it clear: they came back to be filial to their parents and care for their children. If they’re only here to distress their parents and hurt their children further, then perhaps returning home was the wrong choice. Why cause harm by coming back? Does someone who repeatedly brings harm to their family deserve to continue living in this home?

”Dad, I’m sorry. I was wrong in this matter. I shouldn’t have argued with you, nor should I have stubbornly refused to admit my mistakes. I genuinely regret my actions and sincerely apologize to you. Whatever punishments you see fit, I am willing to accept them wholeheartedly.

A happy family requires personal effort to maintain. If there is no trust or foundation for happiness among us, what is the point of living together?

If I have offended you today, please, I ask for your magnanimity. I’m sincerely offering you my apologies!”

Zhang Zhentian, as he apologized to his father, felt deeply sorry. To finally come back home, only to bring his father more hurt, why did he do such a thing? Was he truly so unforgivable? He’s never intended to hurt anyone in his life. All he’s wanted was to hold his loved ones in his hands and protect them from harm. Yet, in the end, he chose this path that led to so much regret.

”Alright, you are my son. Whatever you do or say is connected to how I raised you. Since you’ve said these things today, it just shows that as a father, I haven’t taught you enough. I won’t hold all this against you. I only hope that when you speak or act in the future, you’ll consider your family members’ feelings. I am your father, not your servant. I can’t indulge you like others do time after time. All I wish for is the happiness of my own son!

If you believe that your marriage will bring you joy and happiness, then go ahead without hesitation. I will no longer stand in your way. I trust that one day you will understand my good intentions. Every word I say to you is for your own good, and I would never wish you harm!”

Life can drive people mad. No one wants to live a life without accomplishment. Former hopes may still remain just hopes!
