My Alleged Husband

Chapter 2332: Chapter 2165: Never Left

Why has so much time passed, yet you still haven’t returned to my side.

Xiao Wei and the others still don’t know about their sister’s situation. He thinks he should be living a very happy life now, but how could he know that during this period, his sister has faced so many accidents, again and again, leading her to now be completely deranged, unable to distinguish right from wrong. Even eating has become the biggest challenge for her. If he knew, his heart would surely be in deep pain, after all, she is the sister who has depended on him all these years.

He always wanted to return home to accompany his sister, to see how she’s doing now, but he has always been held back by his wife. He cannot disappoint her; he knows what expectations she has of him.

He used to live freely without worry, but now he can’t do it anymore because he has his own family and responsibilities to bear. He ought to change for his family. If he were to behave recklessly as before, doing whatever he wanted, the ending would only draw his loved ones further and further away. All he wanted was for his family to always be by his side; perhaps this is the most precious thing every family person wishes for.

”Now you come to me saying it’s my fault that led to mom being like this. Even if I did have something come up, can’t I leave for a while? I admit I was negligent this time, I didn’t expect mom would become like this in an instant. Isn’t this also a pain for me? I never imagined living with the burden of this guilt, having to always guard her this way. If she were clear-minded, she would find this unbearable. She had never endured such suffering, and now she bears everything alone, the results of what we each inflicted on her.

Do you have your own matters to attend to? I know you care about your career, about this family, do you think I do not? She is my biological mother, and wherever and whenever, I wish for her to be healthier than anyone else, safer than anyone else, but some things are beyond my control. The results of every effort I’ve made turn into repeated unbearable pain, and no one has ever cared what I think inside. I keep giving, giving—what is it all for? And now you haven’t told your uncle about this, because you’re afraid he’d come back to hold you accountable, right!

If sister knew that you plan to kick grandma out because of mom’s situation, do you think your uncle would approve? Would he still trust you deep down?

You know better than anyone that you need your uncle’s trust, for he holds great influence. Even though he quit the underworld years ago, he still has connections with those people, his network is still powerful. You’re afraid of offending him again and again, you dare not personally send mom out of the house, considering the implications for you, yet now you wish to shift all the blame onto me. I’m not so foolish as to bear all the guilt for you.

As for my grandma’s situation, I think you should communicate well with them. No matter their purpose for returning to this family, since they chose to come back, they should stay peacefully here. Don’t cause any more trouble, as it would only harm everyone with no benefits. Don’t end up hurting everyone completely, only to regret it later. No one will excuse him for every mistake he made because everyone has their own responsibilities, and he should pay a heavy price for the actions he undertakes.

Even if I’m not certain that my mother’s current state is related to him, there’s still an indirect connection. If it weren’t for their return, how could my mother have been neglected? All these years, my mother treated you well, didn’t she? Isn’t it clear to you deep down? You betrayed my mother’s trust in you, putting her in the most awkward position, making it impossible for her to get along with you, leading her to become increasingly reclusive.”

”Even if you say that all the so-called problems are entirely my fault, shouldn’t you also reflect on whether there are truly no issues within yourself? She is your mother; she is only my wife. I do have my own work duties, right? I should care for her, understand her, accompany her, and not neglect her. But you, you’re her son, the child she gave birth to after ten months of pregnancy. As the younger generation, you can’t even manage to spend daily time with your mother—so how am I supposed to do it?

Do you not need to eat? Does your grandfather not deserve to return and enjoy one moment of life? Doesn’t great-grandfather want all of us to have fulfilling, prosperous careers? Everyone has different expectations for everyone else, just like my expectations for you. As long as you are happy, even if you achieve nothing, I am still happy and willing to provide you with all the wealth to ensure you live a carefree life. Are you willing to accept this?

You wouldn’t accept that lifestyle as a mere puppet, scorned by others who call you worthless. You don’t want to live that way, let alone I. All the pressures I’ve faced are no less than yours, so why do you want me to endure the same pain I once did, and again feel that piercing humiliation of the past, as if I was someone useless, abandoned by my parents?

Can we not stand in each other’s shoes and consider the other’s perspective a bit? If you really find this frustrating, we can take turns—when one person is on duty with your mother, that person cannot leave under any circumstance, even if the sky falls. If you can commit to that, then I will accept your opinion without complaints. I’ll stay and watch over her, but surely, I can’t always be the one minding her while you handle your affairs, can I? What about my company and those tens of thousands of employees who need to eat? Should my business cease operations? Should all the money miraculously fall from the sky into my pocket?

Always thought it was what I wanted, only to realize later it was something I couldn’t change...
