My Alleged Husband

Chapter 350: Chapter 330 Undecided_1

Zhang Yichen looked at his wife, so clearly understanding his heart, and he truly couldn’t think of anything at this moment. He suddenly felt that being able to marry such a good girl, to have her as his wife, was a blessing from his past life. He must treat his wife well, ensuring she never suffers a hint of hurt or grievance. He would never let his wife shed a single tear because of him. If it came to that, he would be willing to use half a bucket of his blood to repay every tear she had fallen for him.

Old Master Zhang listened to his granddaughter-in-law speaking these unimaginable words to his son and daughter-in-law, and he almost couldn’t believe his own ears. He had always known this girl to be sensible and empathetic, but he never realized she could go to such lengths. He hadn’t imagined that her magnanimity was so profound, her perspective so broad; he truly had underestimated this girl in the past.

Old Master Zhang smiled and walked towards Xia Jing and Zhang Zhentian. He said to Xia Jing and Zhang Zhentian, ”Look at this. Your daughter-in-law is much more sensible than you two elders. She knows the wrongs you’ve committed have caused so much harm to your son. Why can’t you understand that your actions could bring so much hurt to those you care about or who care about you? Are you truly so selfish that you see only yourselves? Can you really disregard the concern that others feel for you? When you acted, did you consider the feelings of those who care about you, or how your actions would impact and harm your son? Did you not think that acting on a spur of the moment could change everything? Marriage is not child’s play. Since you once decided to be with each other, you shouldn’t give up so easily. If it is because of a lie, both of you want to give up on the marriage you’ve fought to maintain for over a decade, then it only shows that the affection between you wasn’t true. It only proves that the love was shaken years ago. If that’s the case, why didn’t you give up on each other earlier? In fact, deep down, you still hold each other dear, just as your daughter-in-law said. It’s not that you do not have each other in your hearts; it’s just that you both believe you can’t put down your so-called pride and dignity. That’s why you’ve held on until now, refusing to reconcile. But what’s the point of holding on stubbornly? By doing so, aren’t you hurting those who care about you? Look at today’s wedding ceremony. Your daughter-in-law has such an understanding. Doesn’t it show that she really understands why you did what you did? A girl not yet in her twenties gets it, so why can’t you? You ought to know even more. If the family is harmonious, all will prosper. Now that she has brought up the possibility of reconciliation, why not seize the opportunity and accept it? Do you really want to wait until later to regret your decision? Have you never regretted making that choice? When you made that decision, you didn’t consult us, the elders, nor did you think of your son’s feelings. But now, it has come to this, and your daughter-in-law has proposed reconciliation, so why aren’t you willing to climb down the ladder she offered? Why do you insist on hanging on to your stubborn pride? Sometimes, you should try to take off the false masks you wear. If you remove the mask, you can start anew. When with your family, don’t wear that facade. Your family is the closest and most real to you. To place family at the highest importance only shows their significance in your heart. But if you give up on your relationships over trivial matters, it only shows you never truly valued your marriage, your elders, or your son. This only leaves the people who care about you hurt by your decisions. Haven’t your words, your actions, already hurt too many people? Do you still want to continue making mistakes and hurting others?”

”You know I never wanted to divorce your son. But the mistakes he made are truly unacceptable to me. He has casually suggested divorce, and this wasn’t the first or second time. However, I never told you because I knew that once I did, you would interfere, try to counsel us, and not want your son’s relationship with me to continue just because of your coaxing. That would only feel like an insult to me. You know how much I value my self-respect. I can lose everything, but I can’t lose my self-esteem, my pride. Yet, for the sake of being with your son, I let go of all my pride. But in the end, I was rewarded with his desire for divorce. What would you have thought if you were in the factory at that time? If it had been you, how would you have felt? I really couldn’t accept it. I had worked hard to maintain this marriage for over a decade, and because of an inadvertent mistake, it was all to be completely ruined. Do you know how much I care about your son? I was afraid he would leave me, but sometimes, when I think about it, why should I be afraid? It’s true I made a mistake, but isn’t he also at fault? He pushed all the blame onto me, expecting me to bear the consequences. I accepted them because he is the person I love. I am willing to bear these consequences for her. But what does he think of me? As a tool for his benefit? He never considered my decisions...”

Having heard his daughter-in-law’s words, Old Master Zhang knew that Xia Jing was faced with a choice. He understood that she was struggling to decide what to do, torn between the marriage of over a decade and her self-respect and pride. He had to admit, Xia Jing had indeed given up too much for his son, who so easily suggested divorce to her. It would be unbearable for anyone. It was clear enough, and it wouldn’t be right for him to interfere further. He would have to let them slowly realize the consequences of their decisions. Perhaps only when they themselves felt the consequences would they understand the kind of pain it involved.
