My Alleged Husband

Chapter 321: Chapter 301 Courage_1

Before they knew it, a week had passed, and Zhang Yichen still showed no signs of awakening. Xia Tian and Zhang Zhentian became anxious; they feared their son might just sleep away forever, never to wake up again. How they wished that all they had done in the past was just a dream. If they had done less to hurt their son, would these things be happening now? Would their son not be lying here? If they had just agreed from the start to let those two be together, would Ran Zhihan not have left their son? Could it really be that all the fault lay with them?

Xia Jing couldn’t make sense of it all; what was the cause of everything? In her eyes, she had always wished for her son’s happiness and joy, never intending to let her precious child come to any harm.

When Zhang Zhentian saw his son lying on the hospital bed, his own son’s pale face devoid of any color made his heart wrench with pain, but what could he do? All these consequences were the result of actions he and his beloved wife made step by step—who else was there to blame? If he had been more accepting of his son from the beginning, might the outcome have been different? Watching his son unable to move, lying there, he wished he could bear the suffering for his beloved son. He knew how important his own son’s pride was to him, but now, immobile, where could his pride come from?

Old Master Zhang felt the same way. Seeing Zhang Yichen lying on the hospital bed as if lifeless, his heart was no less tormented. This was his grandson, whom he painstakingly raised, whom he had cherished for so many years, never willing to harm or scold him, let alone watch him become what he was today. Yet the person lying there had become such a shadow of himself, and it was all thanks to his own son and daughter-in-law.

”Are the two of you satisfied now? Your biological son lies on this hospital bed because of you. You must feel that him lying here has an undeniable connection with the woman he loves. You heard the doctor say that he suffered a severe mental shock, which caused this incident, but have you ever considered that his current state might have something to do with you, his parents? If it wasn’t for your stubborn divorce, your refusal to listen to advice, and the tremendous mental pressure it put on him, how would he have ended up so distressed? And if it wasn’t for the problems you created with the woman he loved, how could he have been emotionally driven to get in a car and go on a business trip outside the United States? If not for that, how could this accident have happened, leaving him lying here, possibly never able to stand up again for the rest of his life? Have any of you ever pondered that this is your own doing? You only know how to push the blame onto others. Do you really lack the courage to face the consequences you’ve caused? Ever since you returned to the country, you’ve been continuously harming him, and now look, he’s been hurt by you to the point where he can no longer wake up. You two can now be content, you can happily leave here and roll back to the place where you should have stayed. As of today, I want both of you to remember clearly, your son’s current condition is also inseparably linked to you two. Don’t push all the blame onto others. Nobody is born to carry the burden of your mistakes as a scapegoat. The mistakes you’ve made need to be borne by yourselves. If you don’t have the courage to bear the consequences of your mistakes, then all the years you’ve lived are in vain...”

When Xia Jing and Zhang Zhentian heard Old Master Zhang speak these words, they couldn’t help but question themselves deeply: Could it really be that none of this had anything to do with them? Was everything really just because the woman their son loved had upset him, causing him to end up this way? If it had nothing to do with them, then why was their son lying here, never willing to wake up? How much suffering must his heart have endured? If it really was related to them, how should they face their son? If all this suffering came from their own actions, how could they ever forgive themselves in this lifetime? Now that their son was in this state, how should they continue to live on?

Ran Zhihan had not expected that even now, Old Master Zhang would still be willing to speak on her behalf. Everything was inextricably linked to her, and she should stay to take good care of the man she loved. Perhaps if he could hear her calling out with love, he might come back to consciousness.

”Grandpa, none of this has anything to do with Uncle and Auntie, it’s all my fault. If I hadn’t agitated him, he might not have driven emotionally and crashed down the cliff. Grandpa, I don’t want to leave his side; I want to stay until he wakes up. I will wait until the day he can stand on his own again. I want him to know that my heart has always held him, it’s just that I didn’t know how to express my love for him!”

”That’s all we can do now. Maybe he really can hear every word you say to him, and that will bring him back to consciousness. Your words might be the most useful for him, and perhaps he’ll take them as a promise from you. Child, grandpa hopes you will take good care of him and help him wake up. He is the Zhang family’s only hope. You are the child I’ve raised with great effort; I cannot bear to see him lying on the hospital bed for the rest of his life. I believe you also can’t bear to let grandpa live a lonely life for the rest of his days. Grandpa is old now; I can’t take such a blow...”

”Rest assured, grandpa, I will take the utmost care of him. I want him to recover; I want him to stand in front of everyone alive and well. I want him to apologize to everyone because his mistake has made us all worry...”

Old Master Zhang nodded heavily and then left the hospital room. Xia Jing and Zhang Zhentian left the room together; they were going abroad to seek out the best doctors to come back and treat their son. He could not let his son’s life be ruined by his own hands; he could not allow his son to lie on a hospital bed forever, never to regain consciousness, never again to see this beautiful world.

Ran Zhihan watched as the elder family members left the room, then she turned and crouched in front of the hospital bed, her long, slender fingers caressing the face of the man she loved. Inch by inch, she felt, his face no longer held any warmth, as if he were already a living dead!
