My Alleged Husband

Chapter 341: Chapter 321 Severing Ties_1

Ran Zhihan’s parents really didn’t expect that their daughter, whom they had painstakingly raised, would actually run away from home for an unrelated man, wandering the world from then on, leaving behind her own parents. They were even more shocked that their daughter could act like this, no longer pretending to be the obedient daughter she used to be in front of them, which had been such a comfort to their hearts; yet her actions today left them utterly dumbfounded.

”Look, look, this is the ’good’ daughter we’ve raised, for an unrelated pretty boy, she’s actually willing to abandon her own parents. If she wants to run away and roam the world, then she can just get lost. From now on, I won’t have this daughter, she’s no longer my daughter...” Ran Zhihan’s father said to Ran Zhihan’s mother.

”Zhihan, have you really thought it through? Are you really going to abandon your parents for an unrelated man? We’ve toiled to bring you up, do we really mean so little to you that you don’t think twice about leaving? You should know how hard it was to raise a child in our time, especially since we were a poor family. Your dad and mom have sacrificed so much to take care of you, and this is how you repay us?”

”Mom, it’s not that I don’t want to repay you, I know the kindness you’ve shown me in this lifetime is irredeemable, but you’re asking me to choose between my parents and the man I love, it’s really too hard for me. I am a person with blood and soul, and my heart knows pain. For me to give up either of you would leave me with a lifetime of regret. Rather than that, I’d rather wander the world and never contact you again; isn’t that the best outcome for you and for me?”

When Ran Zhihan’s mother realized that nothing she said would persuade her daughter, she began to direct her persuasive words toward Zhang Yichen.

”I don’t know what made my daughter fall for you at first sight, nor do I know what drove her to risk everything for you, but I hope you can understand, it really hasn’t been easy for a poor family like ours to get by. Fifteen years ago, we really were very poor, something you, a rich man’s son, might not understand. But let me tell you, back in that era, the economic differences between each year were immense. A family as impoverished as ours simply couldn’t afford hefty tuition fees. I know you hope I will agree to your being together, but I really don’t want my daughter to suffer any more harm. The memory of the stabbing is still vivid and terrifying. You must have seen it too, the fresh blood flowing down from my daughter’s body. She’s the daughter I gave birth to, the one I toiled to bring into the world. If I myself can’t bear to scold her, can’t bear to hit her, how can I stand others saying they’ll just kill her? How should I, as her mother, feel? I know you’re not an irresponsible man; I know you are a man of distinction. It’s your position that has widened the gap between you two. If you were just a rich heir, I could perhaps accept, and if your parents hadn’t caused her those injuries, I would’ve directly agreed to let her be with you. But those things have happened, and now it’s too late to say anything, isn’t it?”

”I understand what you mean, but can you also try to think from our perspective? Zhihan and I are truly in love. If two people in love can’t have the blessing of their families, then being together won’t bring happiness in this lifetime. I must admit, seeing your daughter heartbroken over the troubles between us, my heart is in agony. I wish I could say she should give up being with me, but I can’t, because that would be irresponsible towards your daughter. I am a man, and I should take on the responsibilities that a man should; I should have the fortitude expected of a man. I truly love your daughter, not for any other reason, not because she’s naive and I want to deceive her. In my twenty-something years, she is the first woman I’ve fallen for. Auntie, I’m begging you, please let me be with your daughter. I promise I won’t mistreat her...”

”Be quiet, and listen to a story I’ll tell you! There was once a poor family living in a valley. A very loving couple lived there; they too had defied their parents’ opposition to be together, and in that valley, they gave birth to their cherished offspring. But in that era, the couple didn’t have the means to support their daughter. The girl’s father worked from dawn to dusk, chopping wood on the hills just to feed his daughter. He regarded his daughter as the apple of his eye, never had the heart to scold or beat her. The girl’s father always voiced that having his daughter was the greatest fortune of his life, that he would not hesitate to give up his life for her—he would sacrifice his very life for his daughter. Later, there was an incident when the little girl went missing in the valley, wandering somewhere unknown. Her father became frantic with worry. He couldn’t bring himself to tell the little girl’s mother, fearing she would faint from shock. He searched aimlessly in the valley alone, for three whole days and nights, until he found his daughter. At that moment, he was overjoyed. Seeing his daughter was like seeing hope itself. He considered his daughter as the main support in the journey of his life, and even though she had made many mistakes in her young years, her father still couldn’t bear to scold her...”

”Auntie, the story you’re telling me is about your family, isn’t it? The loving parents in the valley are you and uncle, and that little girl is the woman I love the most, right? I know the purpose of you telling me this story. I also know how important Zhihan is to uncle and you. But auntie, if you and uncle cherish her so much, why won’t you grant your daughter a lifetime of happiness? Do you really want to watch her roam the world alone, never to return? Do you truly hope to see your daughter wander the entirety of her life, unable to return home, enduring the pain of longing for the man she loves?”

”No matter what, if she decides to be with you today, then I will sever my relationship with her. Such a daughter is not worth keeping!”
