My Alleged Husband

Chapter 334: Chapter 314: Annoying Persistence_1

”I’m not making a scene, I’m just stating the truth, you were my wife. Can I not call you that after we’ve divorced? From what you just said, does it mean when others are around I can’t call you my wife, but when it’s just the two of us, I can, right?” Zhentian said persistently.

”That’s not what I mean, whether there’s people around or not, you are not allowed to call me your wife anymore. Because we no longer have any marital relationship. Now that we don’t have a marital relationship, legally we are not husband and wife, and since we’re not, you can’t address me in that way. It will only lead to misunderstandings. Do you understand? It was you who heartlessly chose to divorce, it was you who kicked me out of your life, it was you who didn’t treat me like your wife, it was you who destroyed the love we had for over a decade with your own hands. Since that’s the case, why bother regretting the decision you made back then? You must pay the price for the decision you made, you have to bear the consequences of your decision. The path was chosen by you. Since you chose to divorce me back then, don’t regret it now. If you choose to regret now, then you shouldn’t have chosen that path to hurt me. You hurt me so thoroughly, what right do you have to say those words to me now? Don’t you find it hypocritical to say these things to me now?”

”So what do you expect me to do? Get down on my knees and beg you to come back to me? Over these years, I have been constantly awakened by nightmares, dreaming that we were both walking out of the Civil Affairs Bureau. Do you understand? Every time I woke up from that dream, there would be tears at the corner of my eyes, because I can’t bear to lose you. I pushed the woman I loved away from me with my own hands and destroyed a marital relationship that was painstakingly maintained for over a decade. Do you really think I feel good inside? I just don’t talk about it, but that doesn’t mean I’m indifferent!”

”Do you think it makes any sense for you to say this to me now? What’s done is done. Can you turn back time to a few years ago? If you could make time flow backward to a few years ago, I would agree not to divorce you. But can you do that? No, you can’t, so let’s not talk about the past anymore and live peacefully on our own. I don’t want our relationship to cause any more harm to my son. I know our divorce has been a bit of a blow to him, and he finds it hard to accept. Even though I haven’t given him any maternal love over these years, he still sees me as his biological mother. I can’t let him be injured by our relationship again; it would make me hate myself even more. We’re different, your heart and mine are not the same, you only think of your own interests, while I have my son, my future daughter-in-law, and my future grandchildren in mind. So I hope we won’t contact each other anymore!”

Zhang Zhentian really did not expect Xia Jing to say such things to him. Did the love of over a decade really mean nothing to her?

”I really want to ask you, does our love of over a decade really mean nothing to you? How can you be so coldhearted and leave just like that? What am I to you? What do you take me for?”

”We are strangers now. Why talk about where you stand in my heart? You have no place in it anymore. All I care about is my son, my daughter-in-law. The day you heartlessly divorced me, I already removed you from my heart. You are no longer the person I love the most. After all we’ve been through, we still couldn’t escape the fate that led us to divorce. It’s not only our problem but also the inevitable outcome. Our personalities were never compatible, yet we still determinedly came together. Two incompatible people can’t last, especially when there’s no trust in a marriage.”

”We could have rebuilt that trust. Without marital affection, we could still continue to create feelings between us. What do you want me to do for you to be willing to come back to me? Am I really that unimportant to you? Do I truly have no place in your heart anymore?”

”Yes, you no longer have a place in my heart. Whatever you do now, I won’t feel sorry, even if you fell off a cliff, I wouldn’t be startled. When there’s no feeling, there’s no feeling. No matter what you become, what consequences you face, what price you pay, I won’t be uncomfortable, because that’s the retribution you deserve. You were the one who heartlessly pushed me away, and you should bear the consequences. After our divorce, I understood something important: if there’s no trust between two people, they should not be together because a marriage without trust will not be happy. Just like a couple, if they don’t trust each other, they live every day in mutual suspicion. Do you think it’s really not tiring for two people to be together but always guessing what the other is doing, who they’re with, what they’ve done, where they’ve gone? Both people will feel exhausted! When you ruthlessly asked for a divorce, my heart was in agony; I felt like I was collapsing, I was at the point of wishing for death. But in the end, I realized I can live without you, I can still live happily, because I have my son, my daughter-in-law, my future grandchildren. And you? Do you think you can be the same without me? We can’t blame anyone for the state of our marriage; if we must blame something, it’s the lack of trust between us. You lost your trust in me a long time ago, always suspicious of me. You always thought my every lie was for an ulterior motive, but you never knew what my greatest purpose was, and you still don’t understand. So there’s no point in telling you now. All I’m asking is that you don’t call me that in front of others, and I don’t want you to keep making a scene, let’s just keep our past as the best memories in our minds!”
