My Alleged Husband

Chapter 329: Chapter 309: Don’t Be Discouraged_1

”I was too much before, that’s why I did such excessive things. How could I treat you all this way? He’s going to be my father-in-law and mother-in-law in the future. If you don’t want to be with me anymore, what should I do? I’m just this kind of person, so foolish that I make my most beloved person angry without even trying. I always end up pushing away those who care about me...”

”Alright, it’s all in the past now. Let’s not listen to that anymore. As long as we can continue to live lovingly together in the future, that’s enough for us. Don’t think about those sad things anymore. People always have to look forward. If someone can never forget the pain they’ve suffered, they’ll never be able to move on with their life. The world is cruel, but fate is fair. If you’ve lost something, it will be compensated in another aspect. Isn’t there a saying, ’When one door closes, another window opens’? There is always balance and you won’t be suffocated.”

”But I’ve done so many things to hurt you, said so many hurtful words. Do you really not hate me at all?” Zhang Yichen couldn’t believe Ran Zhihan would not hold any resentment toward him; he had done so much to hurt people before. But now, the woman he loved was taking such great care of him, could it really be out of love for him?

”Fool, why would I hate you? You’re my husband. I have to live the rest of my life with you. If I choose to hate you, wouldn’t I be making things difficult for myself? You’ve sacrificed so much for me, even went so far as to shut your parents out. I’m really grateful for that. But do you know? While I’m grateful for what you did, I don’t agree with it. After all, they are your parents; you can’t treat them like that. As their child, no matter how much they may try to cause discord, or whatever role they have played, we shouldn’t hate them, we shouldn’t hurt them, because parents are never wrong. They just want their children to be happy. That is the biggest hope for any parent in their lifetime. They don’t expect to have a lot of money, they don’t expect their son to be handsome. They just want their child’s life to be happy. To them, that’s already enough...”

”Maybe you’re right, but I just didn’t realize it was so clear to you. I always thought that my parents’ repeated hurt wasn’t out of love for me but a desire to completely destroy me. So every time they did something hurtful to me, or something that hurt you, I couldn’t stand it anymore. I wanted to drive them out of my house forever, so they could never step inside my home again. But sometimes, when I think about it, what I did was really wrong. Just like you just said, no matter what parents do, they still hope their children will live happily. And how can I hate them for the love they have for me? I used to hate my parents to the bone, but not anymore. On the contrary, I’m quite grateful to them. If it weren’t for their constant meddling and picking on one of us, neither of us would have realized how much we cared for each other. Am I right?”

”What you just said is quite right. It seems you’ve come to understand now. I heard that your uncle and aunt have divorced. I don’t know what led to their decision to divorce, but I hope you, as their son, can still try to mediate between them. After all, both are middle-aged, and divorce is not a good outcome for either. I also believe that after living together for more than a decade, their affection for each other must be deep. It shouldn’t be abandoned over something trivial. After having lived together as husband and wife for so long, it would be too big a loss. If that’s the case, who would dare to marry? Everyone would feel that a marriage of over a decade can’t withstand such a test, so why marry at all?”

”It’s useless for me to say anything now. My parents have already got their divorce certificate; there’s no turning back for them. You know my mother’s temperament—once she makes a decision, not even ten oxen could pull her back. Now that she has made all these decisions, how could she possibly turn back?” Zhang Yichen sighed, feeling truly helpless about the situation.

”Actually, I know auntie’s temperament is indeed a bit too stubborn sometimes. Uncle always had a hard time with her, and besides, you haven’t lived with her for many years, have you? But Yichen, have you ever thought about why auntie’s temper has become so strong? Is it really because she was born with such a stubborn temperament? It’s just that she’s been through a lot and doesn’t want to be hurt by anyone anymore, nor does she want the people she cares about to be hurt. That’s why she has become so obstinate. Maybe it’s because of this that none of you understand her. You all think she has just a naturally bad temper. Why should I indulge her? You never consider how lonely auntie must feel inside. Over so many years, auntie has gone through a lot, enduring the pain of missing her son and putting on a brave face in front of others. Isn’t that very painful for a woman?”

”Zhihan, I know everything you’re saying is just to cheer me up, but I really don’t want my mother to be hurt by anyone anymore. Seeing her frowning every day makes me anxious. She could live a happy life, but she chose to cut off her future path. I don’t wish for my mother to make any great sacrifices for me. I just want her to live safely and find happiness in her marriage, but because of me, my mother has been hurt, and now she’s divorced. Her marriage is over...”

”Don’t be disheartened. I’ll find time to try and persuade auntie for you!”
