My Alleged Husband

Chapter 344: Chapter 324: The Difference in Family Status?_1

”Uncle, by now you should understand that marriage is about freedom, not like in ancient times when it was dictated by parental decree and matchmaker’s words. Why does your daughter listen to you so obediently as parents? Because she holds you, her parents, in higher regard than anyone else, even beyond my place in her heart.”

”You simply can’t guarantee that after she’s with me, you can give her the happiness we hope to see. Perhaps what you want is merely a replacement, and you’re not capable of loving my daughter as you would love everyone else, are you? Prince, indeed, you’re a fine young man—your character, your looks, and your background, all undoubtedly impressive. But we are poor commoners, not wealthy children of privilege, and without much money. My daughter isn’t a young lady from a rich family; she’s earned everything she has through her own hard work. I can’t bear to see my daughter lose her lifetime of happiness because of you.”

”Uncle, are you so sure that she can’t find any happiness with me? My love for him is no less than your love as parents. In my heart, I cherish him as the dearest person in my life. I consider her more important than my own life. For her, I can forsake the entire world, even my life. Out of love for her, I have sacrificed so much—and she too has sacrificed a lot to be with me. But in the end, because of your opposition, she can only leave alone and travel far away. How lonely will your daughter be in the future? I won’t hide it from you, my heart truly loves your daughter, and I regard her more highly than anyone else, even surpassing my grandfather who raised me for over a decade. I believe you know that all my accomplishments today were given to me by my grandfather, but for your daughter, I can abandon even my dearest grandfather. What more do I need to prove?”

”No matter what you say, you two just can’t be together. Why are you so stubborn? Don’t you wish to see your beloved girl happy? Wouldn’t it be a good thing for her if you let go? Don’t you know that letting go is also a form of love for someone?”

Zhang Yichen really didn’t want to continue talking with Ran Zhihan’s father; he felt that with every word he said, he was suffocating more and more.

”Uncle, let me make myself clear today: even if I give her up, she will never be with anyone else in her life. We’ve already made a lifelong commitment in secret. I believe that no other man can ever occupy a place in your daughter’s heart now. To her, all men are an insult, except for me; I am the Prince Charming in her heart and the only one worthy of your daughter. Didn’t my grandfather spend a lot of money to send your daughter abroad for her studies? Are you going to pretend that these things never happened now that she has returned home with her education? Maybe you feel that your daughter is ungrateful and doesn’t keep you, her parents, in her heart, but to me, she holds you in higher regard than her own life. If she didn’t have such profound respect for you, she wouldn’t have rushed in front of you to block the dagger my mother thrust towards Auntie, risking her own life to save yours. I don’t understand, Uncle and Auntie, why you persistently disapprove of me being with your daughter. Is it really because of class differences or some other reason? I hope you can frankly tell me. Your daughter has already left this place; you can freely say whatever you want to me without considering me an outsider. I know there are many things you’re reluctant to say in front of your own daughter, but you can speak freely to me, can’t you? If you oppose me being with your daughter, you must give me a reason that can persuade me to give her up, right? Just because of a few words from you, should I give up my love for your daughter so easily? Would that not make my love too cheap?”

”Yes, I don’t want you to be with my daughter, mainly because of class differences. You are a rich man’s son and a playboy; you can have many girlfriends and many people pursuing you, but my daughter is just an ordinary girl. She doesn’t have the luxury to live it up like the wealthy, nor can she summon and dismiss people at will like the rich do. My daughter has to rely on her own effort to climb up step by step, and each step is incredibly hard. But it’s different for you rich kids; you just need to move your lips and spend a bit of money. Do you understand how hard my daughter works?”

”Uncle, I disagree with what you’ve said. Not all rich kids are playboys, not all of them only indulge in revelry. And as you said, Uncle, that rich kids can do anything with money, while your daughter has to struggle every step of the way with her own efforts: Does that mean rich kids don’t experience the same? I’m wealthy too, but my achievements today come from my own efforts. Have you ever undergone that kind of demonic training? Going without food for days on end, spending each day alone in a gloomy valley, unable to see the moon when you look up, and unable to find a way out, enduring torture like that of a demon. You have to withstand the relentless gaze of the tigers. Maybe in your eyes, rich kids have it easy because they have money, but who can truly understand the hardships of being a rich kid? With every step we take, we must be extremely cautious. One false move, and you could lose everything with no chance of winning back. As for you, you just need to live each day happily. You can still live a blissful and brilliant life, but it’s different for us. Maybe for you, the difference in social status truly is too hard to accept, but why should that be? Is it because of your feudal mindset? We’re now in a free society, not in the era of the Republic of China, nor in an ancient palace. Everyone should have the right to freely love and marry. Do you think it’s right to deprive your daughter of this right? Of course, she won’t sue you legally because you are her parents. That’s all I have to say for today; I’ll take my leave now. I hope that Uncle and Auntie can think it over. Should you let your daughter never return for the rest of her life? Or are you willing to take a chance on me, to let me try to give her a lifetime of happiness...”
