My Alleged Husband

Chapter 311: Chapter 291 Ran Zhihan Regains Memory_1

Time swiftly flew by, and in the blink of an eye, three years had passed. Throughout these years, Xia Jing had never once initiated contact with Zhang Zhentian. She felt that since she had chosen divorce so long ago, there was no inherent need for contact, for reaching out would only add to her own sorrow.

Time had slipped away just like that, and during these three years, Zhang Yichen was always by Ran Zhihan’s side. He feared that a single careless moment would cause him to lose the woman he loved once again. In these years, he had fully regained his memory. He no longer harbored resentment towards his parents, and he had come to view everything in a more detached manner. His own parents had divorced because of him. If he continued to suspect them without cause, it would truly be immoral.

In a subsequent car accident, Ran Zhihan also recovered her memory. Remembering all that she had lost made her even more pained than before. Her mind was filled with memories that saddened her, devoid of any warmth. She truly wished she would not have to recall these things, but time is cruel, and fate is unjust. She had seen him live happier each day after losing his memory, but in the height of his happiness, an accident brought back all her long-lost memories. How was she supposed to accept that?

When Zhang Yichen learned that Ran Zhihan had recovered her memory, he wanted his fiancée to start over with him, to rebuild a life together. They were already engaged, but an incident happened before they could wed. For three long years, how he had longed to get to know the woman he loved all over again, but this day had come too late. Now that this day had finally arrived, how could he simply give up? He would resort to any means, shamelessly begging the woman he loved for forgiveness, even if so much had happened. He did not want their affection to change in any way.

On that very day, Old Master Zhang went to Zhihan’s residence, and Zhang Yichen also arrived.

”Zhihan, I was wrong about the past. It was me who didn’t protect you, and because of me, you suffered so much. But all that is in the past now. Can you forgive me so we can start over, please?” Zhang Yichen pleaded with Ran Zhihan.

”Don’t you find it rather amusing? You tried so hard to live with me and walk through life by my side, yet your parents relentlessly hurt me and forced us apart. I don’t know what happened between us during the time I lost my memories, but now that I’ve regained them, it must mean that even the heavens are against us being together. They want me to hate you and end things once and for all. Your parents have done so much to hurt mine; I can’t just forget all that. Even though everybody else may bully me and disregard me, I will never allow anyone to mistreat my mother, not even your parents. As time goes by, I’m sure you’ll forget about me too. We weren’t so passionately in love, and maybe only after we truly separate for a while will you realize what really suits you. Haven’t you noticed that we’re not meant to be together? Because of us, so many people have been hurt. Your parents were turned away by Grandfather because of me. They struggle to earn your recognition and forgiveness, all because of me. They’ve been hurt over and over again by you and Grandfather. And my parents, because of our relationship, have been repeatedly framed by your mother and your father. They’re human beings too, living souls without any guilt. Their only fault was bringing me into this world, and look at the pain I’ve caused them. Why can’t you try to understand my difficulties from my perspective? I truly liked you, from the bottom of my heart, for a whole decade. Those ten years of affection didn’t just change overnight. I can’t just throw away the love I’ve felt for you these past ten years, but I can’t continue living with you either. If I hadn’t recovered my memory, I would have gone on living with you. But now that I remember, it’s the heavens that have decided our paths, ensuring we can never be husband and wife in this lifetime. Looking back at everything that happened on our engagement day, maybe it was all predestined. Destined that we had to go through this pain before finally parting. Please don’t come looking for me anymore. Let’s break up right here!”

Zhang Yichen couldn’t believe these words were coming from the woman he loved most. He was convinced that Ran Zhihan couldn’t be so heartless.

”Do you think saying all this to me now makes any difference? I’ve taken you to heart; you’ve taken over my every beat. How do you expect me to just move on and live with someone else? You’re driving me to a dead end. If you wanted to leave me, then you shouldn’t have entered my heart. If you had decided not to spend your life with me, then you should never have appeared before me. If I had known this was the kind of person you are, I would never have chosen to meet you, let alone fall for you at first sight. It’s not your fault at all, it’s all my own foolishness, my own wishful thinking. I thought you were looking forward to a life with me just as I was, but now I realize it was all an illusion. In your heart, I mean nothing to you. Are you like my parents, who only wanted to be with me for their own benefit? Do you really want to leave me on my own? Do you honestly think that, without me, you’ll still have so many admirers out there? With just one word from me, no one will dare pursue you for the rest of their life. One word from me and you’ll never shake off being my wife...”

”So what you mean to say is, you’re threatening me now? Do you think I’m scared of you? Say what you want. I would rather stay unmarried for the rest of my life than be with someone else. I don’t mind living a lonely life. Don’t you understand the reason behind all this after everything that’s happened? Your parents have only been divorced for three years, and here you are, thinking of marrying me. Do you realize how much that hurts them? Their unhappy marriage is a result of our relationship, and yet here we are, immersed in affection. Don’t you think that’s incredibly cruel to your parents? As children, we all know that parents want us to be happy, so why can’t we sacrifice our own happiness for theirs, to make them happy?”
