My Alleged Husband

Chapter 303: Chapter 283: Farewell_1

Zhang Yichen knew that Xia Jing must be hiding somewhere and crying alone again. He knew that although Xia Jing looked very strong on the outside, her heart was extremely fragile and couldn’t withstand any damage. But this time, the harm was too great for Xia Jing, maybe in her heart she could never forget her husband’s abandonment for the rest of her life!

Any woman couldn’t bear such pain. She had worked so hard to build her marriage, tirelessly wanting to maintain the relationship, but just because of a simple mistake, it led to the breakup of her marriage—something no one could accept! Maybe in Zhang Zhentian’s eyes, his wife was a strong person who would never cry regardless of the difficulties she faced, but he could have never imagined that this time, his wife would be completely heartbroken because of his abandonment. She hid and cried in her own bedroom every day and night, and nobody knew!

Xia Jing really had nowhere to turn. She didn’t know what to do to make her husband change his mind. Perhaps their destiny was predetermined to end this way; it was just that the day had come a little earlier than expected, catching her off guard.

Zhang Zhentian asked time and again where Xia Jing had gone for the sake of his son, but he just wouldn’t tell him. He truly didn’t know where to start looking for his wife.

That day, Zhang Zhentian once again went to see his father, hoping to probe from him if his son had told Old Master Zhang about Xia Jing’s whereabouts.

Upon seeing Zhang Zhentian return to the Zhang family home, Old Master Zhang was somewhat puzzled—inexplicably, his son had suddenly come back without telling him in advance.

Zhang Zhentian saw his father coming down the stairs and walked over to Zhang Mo, excitedly.

”What made you think of coming back on your own initiative today? Is there something you want to ask me?” Old Master Zhang didn’t believe his son would return for no reason, unless he wanted to learn some truth from him; otherwise, he definitely wouldn’t step into this house on his own initiative.

Upon hearing his father’s words, Zhang Zhentian felt even more certain that his father knew something, and that must be why he’d asked the question. He became even more agitated and grabbed his father’s hand, ”I want to ask you, do you know where Xia Jing has gone?”

Old Master Zhang was baffled by Zhang Zhentian’s question. He replied to Zhang Zhentian, ”Zhang Zhentian, what kind of joke are you playing? Your wife is missing and you come to me with this? What does your missing wife have to do with me? How would I know where your wife has gone?”

Zhang Zhentian was also puzzled. Didn’t his father know where his wife had gone? Then why was he acting like a know-it-all and talking to him this way?

”Did Yichen not tell you where Xia Jing went?” Zhang Zhentian asked in confusion.

”Don’t you find your question funny? Even if I knew, so what? And if I didn’t know, so what? Why should I tell you? You made the decision to divorce her; it wasn’t me forcing you to make that choice. Now that she has chosen to leave, why do you insist on chasing after her to hurt her again? Perhaps in Xia Jing’s heart, she really has lost all warmth for you by now,”

”I knew you would know where she went. If you do know, then please tell me. I want to bring her back now, and as long as she returns to my side, I am willing to pay any price!”

When Elder Zhang heard his son say such things, he couldn’t suppress his curiosity. He wanted to understand exactly what he meant by ”any price”.

”Then tell me, for her to return to your side, what are you willing to sacrifice?”

”As long as she comes back to my side, for the rest of my life I can stay away from the Zhang Family’s door. As long as she returns to me, I could spend my life not acknowledging you, nor my son...”

Old Master Zhang was shocked. Was he truly so insignificant in Zhang Zhentian’s heart? For a woman’s sake, he could so readily abandon his own father.

”Zhang Zhentian, you couldn’t have forgotten, could you? It was you who said you wanted to divorce her. I tried to dissuade you, but you were adamant about divorcing your wife. Having made that decision then, what right do you have to regret it now? Don’t you know the principle that a man’s word is his bond, and once given, it must not be retracted? How can you be so inconsistent? Must you regret every decision you make? Is that your idea of being a responsible man? To speak unpleasantly, even if you do abandon me and your son to find her, she might not choose to continue living with you. Any woman whose husband decides to divorce her over a minor mistake will find it unforgivable, as such a wound cannot be easily healed. I advised you again and again at that time to think carefully before acting, but you acted wilfully. You didn’t take my advice to consider the matter seriously. So what’s the use of regretting now? Your wife has left, and no matter where she has gone, she will not continue to be with you. When a woman’s heart has been hurt by her husband, it dies, and cannot be easily revived. Do you think a dead heart can be resurrected?”

Zhang Zhentian had to admit that his father was making a lot of sense, but he truly couldn’t remain indifferent now. His wife had left him without warning, and his heart could not find peace. He would scour the ends of the earth to find her, no matter how many years it took. He would not stop searching until the day he found her, be it in ten or twenty years or even longer.

”Dad, since you don’t know where she has gone, then please consider today as my farewell. I’ve thought it over, and I truly can’t lose the woman I love most. Even though she has done many things that hurt me, I still can’t let go of her in my heart. I want to find her. I know how difficult it is to search for her in this vast world, but I don’t want to give up just like this. Over a decade of marriage isn’t something you can forget just because you say so. All these years, every day, every night, every two hours, she was by my side. Without her, my life has lost its luster. I only want to be with her for life, never to part from each other. Now I am going to find my beloved wife. While I am not here, take good care of yourself. Wait for me here to bring my wife back, and then our family can live the life we want happily!”

”Since you’ve made your decision, I won’t stop you, but I hope you’ll remember to think thrice before you act. Don’t hurt yourself or the person you love the most...”
