My Alleged Husband

Chapter 324: Chapter 304 Speaking Up_1

He had remained in this state for several days. Zhang Yichen was covered in tubes, connected to a ventilator, an electrocardiogram monitor—doctors were always trying their best to resuscitate him, but it seemed there was no way to help. He kept choosing to stay asleep, never waking up. Unexpectedly, a few days later, there were finally signs of him coming to.

”Yichen, a week has passed; why haven’t you shown any signs of waking up? Do you know how worried I’ve been about you this week? The doctors said you’ve passed the optimal time for waking up. I’m so afraid you’re going to sleep forever, afraid that I’m going to lose you, lose the man I love the most. Please wake up. As long as you wake up, I’ll agree to anything you want. Just come back to consciousness. I’ll give up everything to stay by your side forever. Please, I’m begging you, don’t let me continue to worry like this, okay? You know the fear in one’s heart when they’re worried about someone; anyone would be scared. But I’ve never been so terrified of losing someone. Please, I beg you, wake up!”

Zhang Yichen’s fingertips moved slightly; he was showing some signs of awakening.

Ran Zhihan saw his fingertips shaking and she ran out excitedly to find the doctor.

”Doctor, my boyfriend, his fingers moved! Does that mean he’s going to wake up soon?”

”At this moment, I cannot make any guarantees. I must conduct a thorough examination because he has been in a coma for so long. I don’t know if he is truly coming to or what exactly is happening. As family members, you should not panic. Let me complete a comprehensive examination and await the results. Then you’ll know the answer, whether he’s fully regaining consciousness or it’s just a fleeting moment of lucidity; no one can say for sure until the examination results are in...”

The doctor went into the ward and conducted a comprehensive examination on Zhang Yichen. The final results showed that he was slowly showing signs of consciousness, but his awareness was hazy. Due to a brain injury from the car accident, he might suffer from amnesia again.

”Doctor, how is my boyfriend? Has he come to?” Ran Zhihan asked the attending physician anxiously.

”True, he is indeed showing some signs of awakening; however, there’s something I must tell you—the truth. This car accident he was in, it injured his brain again. It’s possible that he could suffer from amnesia once more. From his medical history, it appears that the injuries from his previous fall from the cliff had not healed completely. Now, this car accident has caused brain injury once again. He might permanently lose his memory. As for the final outcome, it will depend on his recovery going forward. It’s possible he won’t lose his memory, or it’s possible that he will never recall anything from before...”

”How could this be?”

”It’s related to the patient experiencing multiple traumas. His previous injuries hadn’t fully healed, and now he’s faced another heavy psychological blow. This impact is far more severe than the last. Perhaps the last one was only physical, impacting his brain, but not his spirit. This time, the damage comes from deep within, and a blow to the spirit can be worse than one to the brain. That’s why he’s stayed comatose for so long. As relatives, you must be prepared for the possibility that he might truly lose all his memories...”

After the doctor left, Ran Zhihan held Zhang Yichen’s hand and said, ”Yichen, I’m sorry, it’s all because of me that you’ve suffered so much. If I hadn’t cruelly said those words to you, perhaps the accident wouldn’t have happened, and you wouldn’t have had to take so many risks and endure so much pain. All of this, every bit of it, I brought upon you. How I wish it were me lying here. If it were me, I would rather never wake up. But why is it that the man I love the most that lies here? Why? If you wake up this time and have completely forgotten about me, how much pain would be in my heart? Oh God, I beg you, after my beloved man recovers, please don’t let him forget me. He means more to me than anything else. If he loses his memory, what meaning would my life have left in this world?”

Zhang Yichen opened his eyes and looked at the woman beside his bed. He pretended to have amnesia, and said to Ran Zhihan, ”Miss, who are you? Why are you holding my hand by my bed? Where am I?”

Hearing Zhang Yichen calling her that, a big tear rolled down from the corner of Ran Zhihan’s eye. The very thing she feared most had still happened, and the thing she was most worried about appeared right before her eyes. Was this really fate? Because of her, he had a car accident, because of her, he chose to be in a coma for more than a week, and still because of her, he had now forgotten her.

”What did you just call me? Have you truly forgotten me? I’m the woman you love the most. I love you so much, but why have you chosen to forget me now? Is it really because the hurt I caused you was too great?”

”Do I know you? Why would you say such things to me? I only know that the girl in my heart is gone. I dream of her in my sleep, and she has abandoned me. Now I don’t know where she is, I don’t even know her name, no matter how hard I try I can’t remember who she is. Miss, if we have never met before, then why are you holding my hand and crying beside my bed? Are we close?”

How could you do this? How could you be so heartless, just forget about me like that? Where do you think that leaves me? Do you realize? During the time you were comatose, how worried I was, constantly fearing you wouldn’t wake up. But now that you have woken up, why is this the outcome you’ve given me? You’ve completely forgotten about me. Since that’s the case, what reason do I have to stay here?”

”It’s nothing, you take good care of yourself, I wish you happiness!” Ran Zhihan said and then prepared to leave. Zhang Yichen quickly grabbed Ran Zhihan’s hand.

”What, all those touching words you said to me during this time, were they all lies? Now that I’ve woken up, you just want to turn around and leave, not willing to stay by my side and look after me for a lifetime? What kind of person goes back on their word like that? If you keep going back on your promises like this, who would ever believe what you say?”

Hearing Zhang Yichen’s words, Ran Zhihan’s mind suddenly snapped to attention, ”So you haven’t lost your memory. Since nothing’s wrong with you, why did you have to deceive me like this? Do you think it’s fun to trick me? Do you know how worried I’ve been about you? So all my worry and the time I spent was just for you to test me?”

”Don’t be like that, I really didn’t mean it. I just wanted to see how anxious you were, to see how important I am in your heart. Now I know I am very important to you and that is all I needed. Remember your promise, you can never leave me again in this lifetime...”
