My Alleged Husband

Chapter 337: Chapter 317: Visiting to Ask for Marriage_1

”Grandfather, I feel that enough time has passed for me to take action. I can’t stand the thought of the woman I love staying at her mother’s house any longer; how undignified would that be?”

”You always sugarcoat your words, don’t you? Isn’t it just that you want to marry her sooner rather than later? Why dress it up as something so noble, making such a strong excuse? What will you do in the future? Are you trying to make your son a carbon copy of yourself?” Old Master Zhang said to Zhang Yichen.

Zhang Yichen smiled sheepishly and replied, ”Even if you know it in your heart, Grandpa, you shouldn’t say it out loud. It’s so embarrassing to have you expose me like that! Look, my face is all red now, and it’s all your doing!”

”Silly boy, there’s nothing to be embarrassed about. You’re grown up now. You’re not the same young fellow you used to be— you need to be responsible for your actions. Don’t act impulsively on a whim; always think things through! Child, I know you’re truly different from your parents. They can be so selfish in matters of love. Although you can be selfish when it comes to love too, your mind is much clearer than theirs. Your abilities far surpass theirs, and even though you are their son, you are much more capable than they were. Sometimes I can’t quite understand why my own son is so inept, while my grandson is so outstanding. Now there’s no one in the whole world who dares to bully her, having the power of three nations at her disposal—an impossibility for anyone else—yet my grandson, Zhang Mo, has achieved it. This is truly an honor for the Zhang Family, a glory for our ancestors through generations. I’m proud of this!”

”Grandpa, don’t be too hard on my parents. They aren’t bad people; they just don’t know how to express their love for us, their relatives. I used to hate my parents, but I don’t anymore. Sometimes I even miss my mother because without her, there would be no me today. Even though she caused me so much pain before, I still care about her without hesitation, because she is my mother, and without her, there would be no me. How could I then have moments you could be proud of? After some events, I’ve realized that one should not judge by appearances but should see what kind of person one truly is. Some seem nice on the outside but are wicked at heart, while others are the opposite. They seem harsh on the surface, but inside, they are very kind and understanding. That’s what my mother is like. She seems fierce because she was bullied from a young age. She’s scared and fears showing weakness, lest she gets bullied. So, she shows her tough side to everyone, letting them see that she’s not someone to be trifled with, that she’s a woman with temper, capability, and talent!”

”Child, in your heart, what kind of man is your father?” Elder Zhang wanted to see what kind of man Zhang Zhentian was in the eyes of his grandson.

”Grandpa, truth be told, I really don’t know how to judge my father. In my heart, he’s a man who doesn’t have his own son. I can’t see love for me in his eyes. I always felt he never cared about me. Every time he looked at me, his eyes were full of coldness. Do you know what it feels like to be under such cold gaze? Every time I saw that look, it really hurt me inside. When I saw him standing up for me, stepping in front of me to protect me from harm from my mother and the woman I love, I truly appreciated him. But when I learned the truth, my gratitude disappeared. It’s easy for a person to feel good about someone, but it’s even easier to destroy it. I struggled to trust him, to believe he was a father who cared about me in his heart. In the end, I realized I was just a fool for believing in a man who was secretly manipulating everything. That man was my father. Grandpa, I don’t want to talk about this anymore. I should get ready to go ask my future in-laws for their daughter’s hand in marriage!”

”All right, then hurry up and prepare for your proposal. I wish you success, and once you succeed, I’ll get right on arranging a wedding date for you. I’ll make sure everything is prepared perfectly and splendidly!”

Old Master Zhang felt uncomfortable hearing his grandson’s assessment of his own son. After all, that was his son, and no matter what he had done, he didn’t want anyone to have such a poor opinion of him.

Zhang Yichen arrived at Ran Zhihan’s home with her.

”Mom and Dad, I’m back, and I’ve brought my boyfriend home. I want to introduce him to you, and then I’m thinking of marrying him...”

Ran Zhihan’s parents were not pleased to see their daughter bringing home a man who was the son of the woman who had hurt them. When her father saw the man, he was somewhat unhappy. Despite the man’s good looks and seeming like a gentleman, his family was a mess, and his parents were rarely up to any good.

”Why did you bring this man home? Have you forgotten how your mother was almost scared to death, all because of this man’s mother? You just brazenly bring him here, did you ever consider how we, your parents, would feel? Where do you put us in your eyes as your parents?”

”Dad, Mom, please don’t speak like that. Do you really know him? Do you actually know what kind of person he is? Do you know how much he has sacrificed for us? He stood up against his own parents for our sake, shut them out for me. Can’t you see his genuine love and sincerity for me?”

”Do you know what ’genuine love and sincerity’ are? What you are doing really breaks our hearts. He can shut his parents out for you, so there may come a day when he will also kick you out. How can I entrust you to such a man? Tell him to leave right away. I will definitely not approve of this marriage. I hope you do not bring him to our home ever again in the future. We do not welcome his presence; he has only brought harm to our family and never any comfort!”
