My Alleged Husband

Chapter 339: Chapter 319 For Your Own Good_1

”Uncle, regarding your demand that my parents personally come to your doorstep to apologize and make a guarantee about this matter, I can give you the answer right now: not to mention that my parents would not agree, even if they did, I would not agree. They are my parents; I cannot let them lower themselves to beg on account of my marriage. You are also parents; would you be willing to lower yourselves to beg us for the sake of your daughter? As parents, can’t you understand our feelings? By doing this, where do you place my parents? And what about the life I will have with your daughter in the future? If I were to let my parents apologize for my own marital issues, what kind of person would I be in the eyes of the world? What kind of moral character would I, as a father, demonstrate to my future sons and daughters? I cannot let such a thing happen, so I am sorry, but I can’t do it...”

”With that attitude of yours, you still want to marry my daughter? Why on earth should I marry my precious daughter off to you? She has suffered so much bullying just because she wanted to be with you, and we haven’t uttered a word of complaint, never once actively considered it from her perspective!” Ran Zhihan’s father said to Zhang Yichen.

”Uncle, since you’ve already put it this way, I’m not afraid to tell you. You yourself said that your daughter has suffered so much bullying from my parents to be with me. So, let me ask you, when my parents were bullying her, did you stand up to protect her? You always stood in the background, never bravely coming forward to protect your so-called daughter. If that’s the case, why do you insist on making it difficult for my parents to come and apologize to you? If my parents were to lower themselves to apologize and make a guarantee because of my marriage, do you really believe that your daughter could be happy with me? Wouldn’t there be a rift between us? I am also selfish; I cannot abandon my parents for a woman! Uncle, you say your daughter hasn’t kept you in her heart, you say you don’t know where she places you as her parents, but have you ever really considered her feelings? For your sake, she was willing to give up our many years of relationship, ready to cruelly break up with me. I can understand all of that, because I believe that as parents, you matter greatly to her heart, since she is the woman I cherish the most. I trust that I have not misjudged her; my beloved wouldn’t let me down. As it turns out, she has not disappointed me one bit. Yet you, as parents, have truly let me down. Why? Just because my parents once hurt you, should you treat their offspring like this? Why involve our generation in the grudges of the last? Why should we have to bear the consequences of past feuds? What’s more, you and my parents don’t even know each other. It was all just a misunderstanding about my beloved that led to so much harm. It’s been so long since then, can’t you let go of that grudge in your hearts? While it’s true that your daughter was the one in the hospital, and I failed in my responsibility to protect her, I truly regret that incident. I see her bloodied image in my dreams constantly, regretting that I wasn’t quick enough to shield her from that dagger. Sometimes, I regret not being just a tiny bit faster, even by a second, perhaps she wouldn’t have ended up in the hospital...”

”Do you still have the nerve to talk about this? If it weren’t for your parents, why would my dearest daughter have spent so long in the hospital, going through a brush with death? Now you have the audacity to come here and ask me to give my daughter to you; on what basis, your feelings for each other? Indeed, I can’t bear to see my daughter get hurt even a little, but I can’t bear even more for her to live a life of pain. Seeing those days when she suffers, my heart really feels like it’s being torn apart. If you truly want to be with my daughter, then no matter what, you must agree to have your parents come and apologize to us. If you do not truly, sincerely love my daughter, then please don’t come to hurt her. Because my daughter, I will not allow anyone to hurt, nor does anyone have the right to hurt my most cherished daughter. If you have nothing else, then go back, and do not come to our house again. You’re not welcome here!”

Ran Zhihan couldn’t bear to listen to her father’s words any longer. She spoke to her father, ”Dad, I’ve made it very clear that the relationship between him and me shouldn’t involve his parents. In every family, it takes time for members to become truly close to one another. I believe I can develop a good relationship with his parents. So please, stop preventing me from being with him. There has been something I’ve never told you—I met him more than a decade ago in that small grove in the valley. Since that moment, I fell for him at first sight. I’ve thought about him all the time. When I came to the city, my first thought was to find that little boy. After coming to the city and finding the man I love, I was ecstatic, and I haven’t felt that happy in a long time. I finally saw the man I’ve longed for, and he is the man standing before you right now, Dad. Please, I’m begging you, just agree to let me be with him. If I’m with him, I will surely honor you and Mom. My feelings for him are genuine, with not a single impure thought. I just want to be happy by his side, hoping to raise a family with him and walk towards our own bliss. I don’t want to give up the happiness that I’ve achieved so hard in this lifetime!”

”How can you not listen to anything I say? Do you know how difficult you’re making it for your mother and me? Can’t you think from our perspective as parents when you decide? Do you think we make these decisions because we’re afraid you won’t find anyone else in this life? All we decide is for your good! Listen to your father’s advice, won’t you? Please don’t be so stubborn, okay?”
