This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

”Fine, go back to your work. Also, keep this matter to yourself. You’ll be rewarded.”

”I understand.”

”Go.”

Director Xue gently turned, leaving behind a faint, bewitching fragrance as she returned to her office.

The few who had dashed out of the office all secretly touched their flushed cheeks upon returning to their previous spots.

However, Du Xuejing no longer felt that way and was disheartened once more.

”Tingting, that was such a good opportunity just now! Why didn’t you ask for that young man’s contact information?” one of her smitten friends couldn’t help but whisper in complaint.

She seemed to have forgotten why they had gone in there in the first place.

Du Xuejing pouted slightly. ”Why would I want his contact information?”

”He’s so handsome! Didn’t you see?” The excited girl stepped in front of Du Xuejing. ”A guy that handsome is a feast for the eyes, even if you’re just looking.”

”What does his being handsome have to do with me?” Du Xuejing said dismissively. ”Besides, could he be as handsome as my Little Uncle?”

”Tingting, you’re just saying that, aren’t you?” The girl retorted, unconvinced. ”Mr. Du is handsome, sure, but they’re two different types, okay? Besides, you said that young man wasn’t handsome, but you still snuck a couple of peeks at him just now. Don’t think I didn’t see you. And hey, if it wasn’t because that young man was handsome, why didn’t you press the issue about the materials?”

Du Xuejing wrinkled her nose and said playfully, ”Of course, if someone’s good-looking, you take a couple of extra glances. But I know he’s not my type. As for not pressing the issue, how was I supposed to? They said it was put in the shredder. Am I supposed to take a pile of shredded paper back with me?”

”Alright, alright, stop arguing, you two. Let’s stick to the original plan and go get a good meal to soothe Tingting’s bruised ego from being rejected.”

”You’re the one who got rejected!” Du Xuejing retorted disdainfully, then hesitated. ”I don’t think I’ll go. My Little Uncle and I already arranged to have dinner at home tonight.”

”Tingting, Mr. Du is in the Capital right now; can’t you two have dinner some other day? What you need most right now is our comfort, our support, to cheer you up. Tell me, can you tell Mr. Du about what happened today? About how embarrassing it was? Could you let him comfort you?”

Du Xuejing’s lips immediately formed a pout. ”No way. He’d definitely scold me if he knew. And how could I tell him something so embarrassing?”

”So there you have it. It’s best to stick with us, your friends. Only we can comfort you now and make you happy again.”

”Bullshit. I think you’re the ones who want to have fun.”

”Hahaha! You saw right through us, but let’s not dwell on it. We’re still good friends.”

And so, the group of young women left, laughing and playfully shoving each other.

Meanwhile, Du Heng, after waiting an hour without a call from Du Xuejing, figured she had probably forgotten about him and drove straight home.

The first thing he did upon arriving home was to quickly start a video call with Wu Shengnan. He had been busy all day and hadn’t seen his daughter in twenty-four hours. Now that he finally had a moment to spare, his longing for his daughter surged like a mighty river, impossible to hold back.

But the moment the call connected, before Du Heng could even ask to see his daughter, Wu Shengnan cut in, ”Hey, are you getting too big for your britches now? Do you think that just because I gave birth to your daughter, you can just ignore what I say?”

Du Heng was completely dumbfounded. What in the world was this about? He’d been busy since yesterday. How could he have provoked her?

In the video, Wu Shengnan saw Du Heng’s bewildered expression and said irritably, ”I told you yesterday to contact Xiao Kang. Have you still not called him?”

Hearing it was about this, Du Heng immediately heaved a long sigh of relief. ”You’re being ridiculous. He’s just helping me handle some things. What right do I have to meddle in his private affairs?”

”Private affairs, my foot! That woman is his assistant, which means she’s also your employee. How can you say you can’t talk to him about it?” Wu Shengnan was clearly extremely displeased with Du Heng’s attitude.

She glared at Du Heng. ”Anyway, I’ve told you. And from my perspective, that woman doesn’t seem like a decent person. You’d better be aware of the situation, so you don’t end up regretting it when something happens.”

Du Heng pursed his lips helplessly. ”Alright, alright, I’ll call him later, okay? Now, can I please see my daughter?”

Seeing Du Heng’s eager expression, Wu Shengnan was utterly speechless. She would never have guessed that Du Heng was so utterly devoted to his daughter.
