This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

How can a single word ”tragic” even begin to cover this!

Is the Lord in Heaven just not satisfied with this family and getting ready to wipe them out?

For a moment, Du Heng really couldn’t find a suitable word to describe how he felt right now.

So should they start a fundraising drive or not?

Du Heng fell into a painful, tangled hesitation.

After thinking it over and over, he still decided that this fundraising matter should be left to the head nurse and Director Wu to decide; he couldn’t interfere.

When you get down to it, he was now just a Deputy Chief Physician, also the Department’s Deputy Director; he wasn’t the actual Department Director.

Making some arrangements and giving guidance on business matters for the department was what he ought to do and had to do, but he couldn’t stick his nose into things outside that business scope.

Even though Director Wu trusted him a lot and treated him as the next Department Director, he really couldn’t overstep and take over someone else’s job.

Because this kind of thing really offends people.

Don’t be fooled by the fact that the donations might just be three to five hundred yuan; for the medical care staff, this really isn’t some throwaway, blink-of-an-eye number.

That Doctor Sun from noon was a living example.

But no matter how much Du Heng hesitated, Cao Binghe didn’t care; he just wanted a clear answer from Du Heng right now so he could go report back to the head nurse.

Du Heng was the Department’s Deputy Director; he could ignore the head nurse if he wanted, but Cao himself couldn’t. If the head nurse got fierce, the way she scolded him was no lighter than scolding her own son.

So after he finished speaking and gave Du Heng a few dozen seconds to think, he spoke up again, ”Are we going to fundraise for this person or not? Can you give me an answer now?”

Listening to Cao Binghe pressing step by step, Du Heng’s eyeballs were about to pop out; this guy had zero sense of tact, but he couldn’t just spell that out.

It was suffocating!

But Heaven never completely shuts a door; just when Du Heng was stuck, the phone in his pocket rang. He took it out and saw it was Director Niu from the Nephrology Department.

Seeing Director Niu’s name, Du Heng instantly remembered something and hurriedly picked up, ”Director Niu, did you find that uremia Patient you mentioned before?”

On the other end, Director Niu was stunned for a moment, then let out a long, heavy sigh. ”So it seems Deputy Director Du, you’ve heard as well?”

”I had just finished saying it on my side when your call came in, so I figured it must be him.”

”Sigh, I don’t even know what to say anymore.” Director Niu’s tone was indescribably heavy. ”How can one person be this unlucky.”

Du Heng didn’t know how to respond either, so he could only sigh along with him. ”How’s the Patient doing now?”

”Not good at all. Urinary protein three plus signs, leucocyte at 10, red blood cells filling the entire field, urea nitrogen at 60, nitrogen dioxide binding capacity at 40.”

”On the brink?”

”Yeah, that’s why we’re rushing to ask you to come for a consultation.”

”Wait for me, I’ll be right there.”

Hanging up, Du Heng just shrugged at Cao Binghe, then stood up and left.

At that, Cao Binghe didn’t press further; in any case, he already had the phrasing he needed to report back to the head nurse.

Du Heng rushed to the Nephrology Department as fast as he could. When he saw Director Niu, he didn’t waste time on small talk and went straight to see the Patient.

His complexion was ashen; frothy vomit kept bubbling from the corners of his mouth.

Forcing his mouth open, the halitosis was very obvious, with a rotten-apple smell, and the gums were clearly hemorrhaging.

Checking the whole body: abdominal distension, cold limbs, the whole person in a stuporous, drowsy state.

His pulse was wiry, thin yet forceful; tongue coating black and moist.

This was a major block-and-repulsion disease of stomach qi collapsing and kidney yang on the verge of failure.

But Du Heng didn’t explain; in fact, he didn’t need to. At this point anyone could see this was a critical condition.

Back in the office, many experts had already gathered.

Because of this Patient’s special circumstances, the Hospital and Director Niu’s team were taking it very seriously and had proactively contacted many experts in the Capital for him.

Only now all these experts were silent; no one was talking, no one was discussing the condition.

After introducing Du Heng, Director Niu went straight to the point. ”Deputy Director Du, you’ve seen the situation. We won’t waste words.

Our unanimous view, given the Patient’s current condition, is that kidney transplant is the only way out.”

As he spoke, Director Niu’s brows furrowed deeply. ”I’m sure you’ve also heard about this Patient’s family situation.

His Child’s lower limbs have been amputated; his wife has a sternum comminuted fracture, and her lungs, liver, gallbladder and other internal organs all have varying degrees of damage. She’s only just out of immediate danger.

And according to the Materials I’ve obtained, even if his wife recovers, she won’t be able to participate in normal work in the future.”

In fact, even if Director Niu hadn’t said it, back when he’d listened to Cao Binghe, Du Heng had already formed a basic judgment in his heart.

He himself had Orthopedics Expertise; he was very clear about the hazards and sequelae of a sternum comminuted fracture. With trauma this severe, just keeping her alive was already a miracle, so notions like ”full recovery” were things he’d long since stopped entertaining.

Director Niu didn’t know what Du Heng was thinking; he just followed his own line of thought and continued, ”The situation now is: if we perform kidney transplant surgery on the Patient, then this entire family will lose all capacity to work.

And we also have to consider the problems after surgery—whether this family can bear them.

So our conclusion is: on one hand we make the final fallback arrangements, and on the other we ask you, Deputy Director Du, to think of something, see if you can use your superb medical skills to find a bit of hope.”
