This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Cao Binghe directly shook his head, ”Isn’t it still about that cancer research project in your hand? Think about it, the professor left this to you for half a year, and you’ve only completed one tumor treatment.”

In response to this, Du Heng expressed his helplessness directly, ”It’s not that I don’t want to treat it. Cancer is different from other diseases.

Diagnosed in its early stages, these people directly get treated in local hospitals. After being messed up by Western medicine, there’s no use coming to me.

And according to the current media narrative, it’s all surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy; traditional Chinese medicine can’t even get a foothold.”

Du Heng let out a deep sigh, ”Moreover, people are all afraid of death, and we haven’t established a reputation. No one would be foolish enough to come, no one is willing to try and fail.

And though some doctors know my capabilities, my notoriety in this field is too small, and the successful cases are too few; they are also worried and don’t dare to refer patients to me.

Ah, now, if you really want to achieve something in this cancer project, you can only endure.

Endure time, endure credentials, endure patients, slowly accumulate successful cases.”

Lan Changhua is anxious about this project, but isn’t Du Heng anxious?

He’s anxious too.

But cancer, it is different from other diseases.

For example, the stroke research that Du Heng is working on now, the nature of this disease is torturous, but it doesn’t take lives, it has room for error.

They come to Du Heng, even if Du Heng doesn’t cure them in the end, aside from causing a bit more disappointment to the family, there aren’t really any big losses.

And ’pediatric cerebral hypoplasia’ is almost the same situation, it’s not going to affect the patient’s health in the short term either.

Furthermore, these two diseases, each of them are very similar, so they easily create a clustering effect.

But cancer, it doesn’t work. It’s time-limited, every minute that passes, the patient loses sixty seconds. How could they dare use their limited life to experiment with Du Heng?

If you actually calculate, the cancer patients Du Heng is treating now aren’t actually few, and there’s even a patient like Feng Su who has a substantial social influence.

But the reality is still like this, there’s still no one coming specifically to see Du Heng for cancer.

Why?

Because the individual numbers for a certain cancer are too small, it can only be considered representative, but not universal.

So—endure, has become almost Du Heng’s only choice now.

But there is also a turning point, if in the academician election next year, he gets really lucky, then by the year after, not only can he fulfill his wish, but the cancer section will definitely see a change.

But still, that requires waiting.

Cao Binghe also knows these things, but with Lan Changhua’s partiality, as a student, he’s really quite jealous, ”The professor wants to upgrade our department to a Traditional Chinese Medicine Tumor Research Institute.”

Du Heng didn’t speak, just blinked several times, ”Traditional Chinese Medicine Tumor Research Institute? Professor Lan’s ambition is too large, isn’t it?”

Saying this, Du Heng couldn’t help but scratch his head, ”Right, what level is it? Is it applied for city level, or is it applied to the Department above?”

Cao Binghe sighed leisurely, ”Of course to the Department, after all, in the Department, he has connections with Senior Brother Lan, and the professor’s relationships in the Department are also good. He will definitely apply in one step.”

Du Heng turned the cup in his hand twice, looking at Cao Binghe, he asked, ”Will it work?”

”How should I know that?” Cao Binghe replied full of bitterness.

But this bitterness came quickly and went quickly, as Cao Binghe soon adjusted, ”Oh right, I forgot the main thing.”

After adjusting his emotions, Cao Binghe said, ”General Surgery Department over there initiated a fundraiser for a patient, quite a few departments have responded, should we also respond?”

Fundraising, this kind of thing is incredibly common in the hospital.

Honestly, if doctors and nurses aren’t a bit tough-hearted and ruthless, no matter how much they earn, it’s never enough for donations.

So when Cao Binghe mentioned fundraising, Du Heng was not surprised at all.

But one thing caught him off guard, ”Isn’t it, shouldn’t you talk to the head nurse and director about this? If they agree, we’ll fundraise; if they play deaf, then we’ll just stay quiet, right?”

Cao Binghe replied with a weak voice, ”The head nurse asked me to ask you, she said she listens to you.”

”Listen to my ass, who even am I for her to listen to me.” Du Heng shook his head like a rattle drum, ”You should go find the Director, only if he says so will it count.”

”Can he be found?” Cao Binghe said with discontent, ”Look at this week, he didn’t even attend the outpatient service, left everything to you, doesn’t even show his face in the department, where do I even find him?”

”Call him.”

”He said to find you.”

”Damn!”

Du Heng rolled his eyes directly.

The hospital is a place where there is no shortage of poor people, you meet them all the time; and it is even more of a place not lacking in tragic stories, where every minute and every second, stories are happening that make people weep bitter tears.

But this isn’t a reason to force medical staff to donate.

Apart from those specific few, the salaries for other doctors and nurses are just so-so.

Having to fundraise, this is actually something that offends people, no one would like it, after all, whose life isn’t messy as hell?

Moreover, sometimes the hospital’s Medical Affairs Office or Nursing Department might even forcibly arrange fundraisers, no discussions, directly deducting from wages, it’s incredibly annoying.

This is also why the head nurse deflected, and Director Wu did not respond.

They are all afraid of offending people, Du Heng surely isn’t a fool either, so he pretends to be oblivious, no longer discussing it with Cao Binghe, telling him to ask whoever he wants.

However, it seems that Cao Binghe expected this situation, he sighed directly, saying, ”Hey, this man is just too unfortunate.

A month ago, his father suddenly died from a cerebral hemorrhage, and he hasn’t even dealt with his father’s affairs when his mother, overwhelmed by grief over her old partner’s death, stressed herself into heart failure; along with her existing heart disease, she ended up in hospital.

Coincidentally, his father-in-law, far away from home, was trimming branches in the fruit orchard, fell from a tree.

Due to the wrong falling posture, the injuries were severe, and with many fruit trees in the field blocking views, he was discovered late. He was sent to the hospital, but it was too late for rescue, and he was gone.”

Du Heng’s face twitched, this is truly unlucky. But it seems this situation hasn’t yet reached the level for fundraising, so Du Heng said nothing, just quietly listened to Cao Binghe.

And with a heavy sigh, Cao Binghe continued in a drawn-out voice, ”With his father-in-law gone, he has to attend the funeral, but his old mother is hospitalized, he can’t leave, so he can only let his wife and child go.

More than a week back and forth, the old mother in the hospital showed no improvement, with constant oxygen masks and monitors, and when his wife and child returned after the funeral, they got into a car accident right after exiting the highway.

The son’s leg was lost on the spot, the wife’s chest almost completely shattered, and it’s a miracle if her life can be saved.”

As soon as Cao Binghe finished, Du Heng became uncomfortable all over, this man is really down on his luck.

With such a series of events, whether one believes in science or not, one can’t help but mutter in the mind, maybe there’s something unclean in the house.

Just as Du Heng thought this was over, Cao Binghe continued, ”Today at noon, his mother passed away due to heart failure.”

Du Heng became calm, suddenly he had no emotional output, or rather, he didn’t know what emotion to use.

Cao Binghe wasn’t finished talking, pausing briefly and then continued, ”And at that moment, he couldn’t take it either, and fainted directly in General Surgery. When the doctors there were rescuing him, they found out, this guy... this guy...”

Du Heng frowned hearing this, ”What’s wrong with this guy?”

”This guy is a uremia patient, even the doctors at General Surgery didn’t know how he managed to hang on for this whole month,” Cao Binghe said to Du Heng, with a very serious voice.

Du Heng’s eyelids suddenly twitched wildly, twitching so much that both his eyelids were shaking, making his eyes blur.
